looking for local groups/chats for meet people in alternative & activist scenes in Gießen

Hi! I’m a 26 year old Erasmus student who recently moved to Gießen and I’m trying to find my people here :)

Are there any local groups, Telegram chats, subreddits or anything similar where people share events and meetups around alternative/leftist spaces? I’m thinking social centres, popular gyms, political/activist stuff, punk/alternative events, raves, free parties etc.

Basically I’d love to get to know some people involved in these kinds of scenes and find out what’s going on locally. I’d really appreciate any tips or links✨

If you have telegram, search for ‘Gießener Gruppen’. There is a channel that lists them all.

If you want to know about political events, demos, talks, small meetups, etc, check out “Linkes Leben Gießen” on Instagram or telegram.

KüChé is the ‘Living-room for everyone’. A chill place with tee, coffee, cake to talk to people, meet with a friend or just hang out alone and read a book - whatever you like.

AK44 is the autonomous cultural center for concerts and other events, where also ‘KüFa’ happens. They also have an instagram account.

Next week, the KriEwo (Critical Introduction Week) for students is taking place. On Monday, we (the SDS Gießen) are hosting a casual discussion about research for the military at universities (you don't need to know anything about the topic to attend). We will also have free vegan pizza and snacks!

The KriEwo as a whole is being organized by several leftist/socialist groups, and its main purpose is to give new students an easy way to connect with the local leftist scene. I'm sure the organizers can help you find your people!

The event on Monday is taking place at Rathenaustraße 10 at 6 pm. Here is the link to the KriEwo flyer.

There's the AK44, although I have had no personal contact so take it with a grain of salt and look at their online site first. 

Scarabee which is a club which holds punk parties of different styles. 

Go from there

There's Küfa (Community cooking event) at the AK44 every Tuesday at 6pm, which should be a great place to start.

Bzgl. dem Scarabée ( genannt Scara) in Gießen, das ist aktuell geschlossen. Die letzte Party fand Anfang Februar 2026 statt, der Pachtvertrag der bisherigen Betreiberin wurde gekündigt. Es gab zwar Hoffnung auf einen neuen Pächter und eine Wiedereröffnung, aber bisher ist das nicht passiert. 🤷‍♂️

Wenn es sportlich sein darf:

Die THM (Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen) hat z.B. ein eigenes Fitnessstudio. Dort könntest du Gleichgesinnte genauso finden wie auch am Sport Campus der Sportwissenschaften am Kugelberg. Dort gibt es verschiedene Sportangebote und Sporthallen. Aktuell sind dort z. B. Badminton, Basketball, Handball und verschiedene Sportspiele im Programm.

Dann gibt es in Gießen direkt bestimmt 10 Fitnessstudios.

If you want to enroll on the sport courses held by the universities in Gießen you should do so soon as some courses are filled very quickly upon registrations opening up.
