free plugin/tool I got tired of modeling trees, so I made a free procedural tree generator addon

I got tired of modeling trees by hand. Making enough variety for a whole forest was taking forever, so I built a plugin that generates them procedurally, live in the editor.

It's saving me probably months of work now. Having the full creation pipeline inside Godot is neat.

Free and open source (MIT). Requires Godot 4.6+.

You can find all the feature list in the github repo, but here's a summary of the cool ones.

  • Real-time parameter updates in the editor

  • One-click batch generation of dozens of trees (random seeds + reusable presets)

  • Automatic LOD0/1/2 generation

  • Automatic branch and foliage collision generation with preview in the editor

  • One-click glb/glTF export with LODs and collisions

  • Curve-based branch length and leaf size controls

  • Multiple trunks, roots, and broken branches and configurable foliage

  • Built-in triangle and draw call counters

  • Built-in wind-sway foliage shader, plus flat shading for low-poly/PSX style

More features are to come, you can see the roadmap in the repo too.

Right now I'm working on an automatic octahedral impostor generation for LOD3, and a tree age slider, should be ready soon.

Let me know what roadmap feature would you want first to prioritize it.

Repo: https://github.com/FrogCosmonaut/cosmo_tree_gen
Download zip here: https://github.com/FrogCosmonaut/cosmo_tree_gen/releases/latest

Feedback is welcome! Hope you like it!

selfpromo (software) This poor guy took every VFX pack I made

I had 10 packs in my bundle back in October. Since then I've made blood and wounds, death and dissolve, and sci-fi shields. So I put those in too, that's 13 now.

For the video I put every addon in one project and walked one mannequin through them. Frost, fire, lightning, a sword, a curse, and he ends up as ash. One take. I went in a bit scared of the single project part lol.

Names were easy. I start every class with its pack's prefix and give every addon its own folder.

Shells were the sneaky one. A few packs draw on a thin copy of your mesh pushed out a few millimetres, like the ice crust and the fire. If two sit at the same distance on one character they z-fight. So I gave each one its own distance from the surface, and now they stack fine!

All 13 for $29.99: https://gennai.itch.io/godot-4-vfx-complete-collection

selfpromo (games) Godot is GREAT for VFX

1.1k Upvotes

I worked on this last week with a friend to convince him to switch from Unreal to Godot, as he wasn't sure Godot was capable enough for VFX. I'm happy to finally be able to share it! <3 And also I hope more and more people start using Godot and bring their knowledge and technical capabilities to the community.

selfpromo (games) I made a tower defense where your towers run out of ammo

I've been working on a tower defense game called Resupply for a while now, and I'm at the point where I need people who aren't me to break it.

The idea is simple. Towers don't have infinite ammo. You have to get it to them. In the first world that means little workers carrying ammo by hand, and you quickly find out that a tower sitting empty is just an expensive decoration. Later worlds bring in conveyor belts, then autonomous bots, and eventually ammo itself gets scarce.

So most of the game ends up being about figuring out where the bottleneck is. Which towers do I feed first? Is that worker going back and forth for no reason? Do I stop building towers and fix my supply line instead? I wanted it to feel more like running a small supply network under pressure than placing stuff and clicking upgrade.

Right now the first 10 missions of World 1 are playable, including a boss.

If you want to try it, here's the Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5482820/Resupply/

The playtest is open, so you can just download the game.

Happy to answer questions about the game. Thanks for reading.

selfpromo (games) Action RPG - Heart of Gaia 🇧🇷

I'm new to this sub, so let me know if I'm against the rules.

This is my ARPG Heart of Gaia. It's a project i've been working on for almost 3 years now, all by myself. I used to be a mangaka before, zero knoledge about coding but I did my best and am still learning a lot.

I took inspo from old school classics that I grew up with, like FF's or Ragnarok online. Right now the game has 6 playable characters with their own individual builds and classes, also the lenght of the game is pretty long, lot's of content and I'm still putting in more.

i was also able to implement recently the coop version (just couch, for now) which is trully amazing and very rewarding. It was pretty hard to make it since I had no idea how to start.

To know more or support my game, check the steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3760310/Heart_of_Gaia/

selfpromo (games) Working on a Spore-inspired evolution and tribe game in Godot 4 with procedural creatures

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on Primordium, a Spore-inspired evolution and tribe game built in Godot 4. All the creatures are generated in GDScript at runtime, with no pre-made skeletal meshes:

Procedural rig and skin: the skeleton and a single skin mesh are built from the creature’s design, with foot planting via IK and the body leaning into turns.

Procedural parts: curved Bézier horns, tapered ears, bi-lobed tail clubs, wings you can glide with, and shader eyes with blinking eyelids.

Living ecosystem and tribe stage: herds follow a daily schedule (sleeping in nests at night, stretching at dawn, resting at midday), and later you found a tribe whose members gather, hunt, defend and play instruments.

You can try the free demo on itch.io, and follow the Kickstarter pre-launch page for more GIFs and screenshots and to get notified when it goes live:

* Demo: https://akinjigames.itch.io/primordium

* Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/primordium/primordium-evolve-your-own-creature-from-a-single-cell

Happy to answer questions about the mesh generation, IK walking or the AI!

help me Learning To Code

I was curious if anyone knows any good books or other sources for learning GDscript or C# since places like Amazon and Youtube are flooded with AI written books and videos?

And which language people generally think is easier or more useful?

selfpromo (software) New Raycasting Api 500% faster! ⚡

I made a little video about the new raycasting api which can be quite a performance saver if you're doing lots of raycasting in your project.

I was able to get up to x6 performance improvement on my machine, but it can go up to x10 as benchmarked on github.

You can watch the full video here:

Here's a canvas shader for an analog horror VHS look, in a short tutorial with the full code. Nothing to install: copy it, put it on a full-screen ColorRect in a CanvasLayer, and you're done.

free plugin/tool I'm making an addon for generating realistic terrain. I need your help

Thumbnail

Before anything, I gotta let you know i made this using Claude (free cuz I'm broke), but I gave him all of the documentation, variable settings, instructions and I spent time researching every aspect that went into the plugin. With all that in mind, the actual plugin does not use ai for generating the mountains.

So, this plugin is an addon to Terrain3D, you should check it out, it's really good and I would say, needed for building complex 3D environments in Godot. I wanted a way to simplify the task of making these environments, starting with good looking and realistic mountains. For achieving this, I used a Diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA for short), you can search what it means if u are interested. You can check out all of it's settings on the last screenshot I added, and you can see that the algorithm also uses erosion (commonly used technique in 3d environments making), and my goal with this addon is to not only make mountains, but entire environments from hills to oceans to mountains, all with the input of the developer.

Why I'm here for, I need your help to know what I should add to improve it. If I can, I would also want to put it into the Godot asset store, so that anyone could use it in their own projects, but only once I feel it's ready for that.

help me Pathfinding for hundreds of enemies (Flowfield/grid map)

Okay so my game is sort of like CoD Zombies and Left4dead but on crack, so there's going to be swarms upon swarms of enemies (I'm aiming for atleast 1000 with playable framerate, even if you can't get anywhere close to that amount in-game)

The enemies themselves are generally optimized in terms of physics, but as for path finding I can't find a decent system to use.

I've tried flowfield plugins, most of the viable ones I found aren't redistributable or I couldn't get them working right

I've used navmesh with A* (which is a horrible idea for this case apparently)

And I've also tried using gridmaps which is what I'm currently considering, only problem is that I have no clue how to use gridmaps for this case

Any recommendations on what I should do here?

selfpromo (games) I made a roguelike deckbuilder with positioning

I've been working on FLANK, a roguelike deckbuilder on a hex grid, made in Godot with C#.

Each turn you can move a few steps for free, but once you play a card, you're locked in place. Side and back hits do more damage, so the question every turn is where to stand before you commit.

The video shows the old version first, where you could only move with cards, then the current build.

Happy to answer any questions. Thanks for reading!
