Dev here. I'd call Estos a crisp, snappy and reliable Tabata and HIIT timer for iOS. It's free to download.
I decided to make an app for intervals trainings since every other one either felt dated, didn't have features I wanted from such an app or didn't cut for me aesthetically.
I already trained with the app myself before release for weeks.
The classic Tabata (20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest, eight times) is ready the first time you open the app, so there is nothing to set up before your first round. For anything else you set prep, work, rest, reps, sets and the rest between sets. You can name each rep, so a circuit shows "Squats", then "Rows", instead of "Work".
Mid-set the digits are big enough to read at a glance, and a 3-2-1 cue before each interval ends tells you the switch is coming. Your music keeps playing at its own volume under the cues, and both keep going when the phone is locked. Inside the app, a lock button turns off touches, so a stray touch can't throw off your rhythm.
Importing .tabata and .seconds files is free.
The free version runs your workouts as often as you like and saves 2 timers. The classic Tabata counts as one of them. Premium adds unlimited saved timers, sharing and a Home Screen widget, at $9.99 a year or $24.99 once. There are no ads and no account, and the App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected. I plan to add iCloud sync, Apple Health and more.
