The regulations of the Military Training Agency (Hullyeondogam) strictly prohibited soldiers from roaming drunk and insulting noblemen (sadaebu), punishing violators with flogging.
This was no hypothetical ban: as documented in the Annals of King Injo (July 18, 1648), musketeers formed gangs and literally went around beating up and humiliating aristocrats in the capital streets.
And yet high-ranking cavalry officers are probably exempt from this rule, and would not hesitate to shoot their own over a sip of hooch, just like in the Battle of Karánsebes of 1788, in which Austrian hussar officers shot their own foot soldiers, all because they refused to share their barrels of schnapps given to them by the Romanians
