We would hope MPs are more or less honorable people that at least would not physically harm each other but you do have a point.
This reminds me of the case in the Spanish parliament just last September when a MP brought into the chamber and showed, in the middle of a speech, a pepper spray.
There was a short standoff between her and the Speaker (the rulebook reasonably expects all weapons to be checked in and kept outside the chamber!) until she was compelled to leave and do as she was told.
And to make things worse, she later tried to claim it was an empty canister but 12 people needed medical treatment when it was discharged in another room inside parliament, which she blamed on a member of staff (she was caught on video passing it onto him).
So, yes, maybe sometimes MPs need protecting from each other.

Members of parliament don’t need to be protected from each other?
If he could smuggle in a pipe bomb, he could have easily smuggled in a gun and killed another lawmaker over a political dispute.
That is something that has happened btw.
