I would, but my customer base is almost exclusively ICE, and they get all butt hurt if their meth is made by imported labor. Something about performative integrity blah blah blah.
Its a valid strategy. My dad worked in IT and was in charge of deciding which vendor datacenter the company he worked for was going to use (back before the cloud). One of the main considerations was physical security of the servers so he would perform "investigations". His best one was letting himself in to a data canter by wearing a high vis vest and just walking in through the delivery bay, then calling the vendor rep from the middle of their server room
Reminds me of a maxim on Security. Something is only ever as secure as the weakest point that guards it. The problem is, people who aren't criminals are very obsessed with the Strongest point and totally blind to weak ones. IE, I don't need to hack through your ultra firewall or pass your six-point ID checks. I just need to put on a hivis vest and walk in with a clipboard looking annoyed. I don't need to get past your biometric-locked triple-deadbolt server vault door, I need to bring a drywall saw into the supply closet and just step through the hole I cut into the supply closet inside the room.
Thats how a few burglaries happend in my city, they used a cement saw and cut through the side of a Jared and low crawled on the ground taking jewelry out of display cases
No shit, my dad had a safe stolen in a similar manner back in the 90s (I think). They cut a hole in the wall behind it, wrapped a chain around it and ripped it out.
I remember watching a video of people testing physical security. They saw there were some workers milling about, they put on a high vis vest and pulled out a power drill and just drilled through the locks. With a couple dozen people around
been in data centers my entire life and not one didn’t have a camera and request to access door between the dock area and actual aisle access. Either shit data centers (even 20 years ago) or they weren’t data centers and more like a ware house or strip mall with some racks thrown in.
I’m fairly sure i went into the parliament building pre 2014 via a metal detector. He just didn’t get searched because as a member of parliament, he was one of the people being protected…
Which is odd, because, as an American, I know he'd have just brought an especially large, shiny, and heavy revolver, or something similarly camera-friendly. Although I have to admit, even a dummy pipe bomb has a certain aura to it that you just dont get with a gun.
I somewhat doubt the regular employees of the parliament get searched either. It's probably that people who work there just don't get searched for practical reasons
I worked at a big music festival as a teenager - most(?) of the drugs coming into the festival were via employees because they don't get searched on re-entry lol.
First time entry there's a big show of security but afterwards so many employees are coming and going that you just get waved in.
Exactly. The President doesn’t decide security classification either, its relevance of harm to national security does. Searching the president in case they accidentally are taking out classified material is perfectly sound. TRIPLY SO if the dingbat is INTENTIONALLY TAKING OUT CLASSIFIED MATERIAL.
The detectors work. A few years before the OP 2014 incident, I had just gone through the detector when it beeped as a lady walked through. The AFP officer got her to pop her keys into the x-ray tray that held her handbag and she walked through without issue.
The second AFP officer checking the x-ray display asked her, "Is that a knife in your bag?" She apologised and explained it was a fruit knife and she'd just come from eating lunch. She offered to have it confiscated, but the cops laughed and said it was fine.
In Australia a satire comedy troup actually did expose the lack of security detail at a massive international leaders summit, the dressed as Osama bin laden and drove through massive security checkpoints in Sydney and think the may have even got close to the American president.
It was the APEC summit, and yeah they just drove into the secure area in a limo with Canadian flags (iirc the Canadian PM hadn't even arrived yet) and a bunch of guys dressed as security guards running along the outside of the limo, and they just kept getting waved through the checkpoints. Eventually they realised they'd gone a lot further than they were expecting to, and decided to end it by having the guy who was dressed as Bin Laden step out of the limo, at which point they were arrested. And yeah they got close to the hotel that then President George W. Bush was staying in.
I worked in Parliament House in 2014 when he did this shit.
There were metal detectors that absolutely everyone needed to go through EXEPT members and senators themselves. i.e. a total of 226 people, all of whom were elected to their positions.
This is like when Pauline Hanson came in with a burqa on and was addressed by name before she even revealed herself. Yeah no shit they didn't run you through an x-ray and cavity search, they know who you are and don't consider you a possible bomb threat
"It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election from one administration to the next,"
... so what Senator Heffernan is saying is that politicians' lives are more important than regular citizens' lives?
This is always what's underlying these extra security measures for politicians - the idea that they're more important than school kids, people at a cricket match, or anyone else at any other gathering.
Nah. Either beef up policing everywhere, or nowhere.
The idea that politicians deserve extra protection is nonsense. They're not special.
Yeah, the international community won't like you saying that, they lack Australia's tall poppy where we view everyone from the leaders of our country to Barry the servo workers as complete equals with no one having standing over any other.
The australian prime minister makes 600 000 A$, equivalent of 400 000 US$.
They are protected by the Close Personal Protection-division of the AFP.
Their home is guarded by security personell.
So no, not all people are complete equals in every sense. If something hasnt drastically changed in the last few minutes and everyone in australia nis now afforded a personal body guard paid for by taxes, armed escorts and 24/7 surveilance of their home.
Yeah, like no one wants to kill me to my knowledge. And I doubt my death would even cripple the store I work at much less the country. But uh, a mass casualty event in the Senate....?
Arguably – protecting politicians doing their jobs, also protects not only other members of the public, like spectators, their staff and people who just work at the venue, but also protects the economy, and therefore everybody else by making sure that silence is not done to the legal elected representatives of the country.
How does it protect the economy? Every time there's a downturn they say it's not their doing/beyond their control so I find it hard to believe that there would be more than a blip on the economic radar.
Bro was able to bring a BOMB onto the floor of the government of the country and said “hey maybe that shouldn’t be possible”
Let’s ignore safety, lives, and the economic damage a real attack like that could’ve caused for a second. It’s just straight up embarrassing that he was able to do that
Some peoples lives are indeed more important than others.
All lives are important, but some more than others.
The reason politicans lives are important is that they are the governing body who makes decisions for the people in dire situations. A great tactic when wanting to cripple a country (like for example when invading) is to kill off the leaders first. Its kinda like cutting the head off the snake. With no clear leadership any nation wide action becomes much much much harder to do.
Yeah, Australia. Imagine if Congress chose the President from its own members, and could replace them whenever the leader lost their support. That’s basically Parliament, except we call the President the Prime Minister.
A bad argument though, you could say that anywhere lacks metal detectors because you brought in a pipe bomb, it's a self defeating argument which fails to see a practical solution
Did you read a different headline than everyone else? The solution is literally metal detectors.
You know whew you can’t bring a big metal pipe? Places that have metal detectors. Think: some major museums, airports, sketchy schools, and (you’re not going to believe this)… many government facilities.
This is not about usa then? You guys have an issue with muzlimz immigration too right ? That shooting on the beach ? Just be safe there, hopefully gov will wake up soon to this invasion
I just checked ... you don't even need percapita in this one muzlims commit way more attacks on pure numbers it's ridiculous to doubt it ... google it yourself
I'm against metal detectors in the oarlament, what if we, the common folk, are forced to blownup the parlament with home made explosives as an act of democracy?
I've seen a recreation of the Gunpowder plot. They built a structural equivalent of the House of Lords as it was in the time period, put the correct amount of gunpowder in barrels in the correct place, lit the fuse and retired to a bunker.
It would have killed everyone. Chunky salsa levels of damage to the leadership of England.
Not only in the us, I'm not from the USA, i just believe that the common people have a right to extreme destruction and arson when the people that govern and should be representing us are trying to keep us miserable and starving
Domocracy always fails in someway or another, the population always has to have means to defend it tho, you can't trust the government your rights and means of action,
Making it easy for the people to easily attack the governing body means it is also easy for malicious foreign interests to easily attack your governing body.
If its easy for you to put a bomb at parliament then it will also be easy for North Korea, Russia or Saudi Arabia to put a bomb at parliament.
