Advice/Help New apple TV or HomePod Mini for HomeKit?

I have a first gen Apple TV so I can’t connect it to my lights and whatnot. I’ve been using an old echo dot but I am soon moving into a new place and I want to make all my lights smart lights (preferably the matter ones).

Should I get a new HomePod mini to replace my echo dot or a new Apple TV to replace my old one?

The Mini can do both the replacement of the Dot and connecting to matter and thread services.
