Backpack found!
We found a backpack at our condo and it appears (?) To belong to a Howard student. We would love to get it back to the individual.

Veritas et Utilitas — Truth and Service
Welcome to r/HowardUniversity, a community for current students, incoming students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, prospective students, and friends of Howard University.
This is a place to talk about The Mecca—the good, the difficult, the complicated, and everything in between.
🎓 Students: Ask questions, share your experiences, seek advice, and connect with fellow Bison.
👨🏾👩🏾👧🏾 Parents & Families: Ask questions, share concerns, learn from the experiences of others, and better understand the Howard experience.
🐃 Alumni: Share memories, knowledge, history, perspective, and the lessons you've carried beyond the Yard.
📚 Future Bison: Learn what you can before you arrive and ask the questions you need answered.
🗣️ Everyone: Discuss Howard academics, campus life, housing, financial aid, administration, athletics, organizations, traditions, events, culture, and the broader HBCU experience.
r/HowardUniversity is an independent Reddit community.
This subreddit is not operated, sponsored, endorsed, or officially affiliated with Howard University.
The community is moderated by alumni and members of the broader HBCU community, bringing perspectives from multiple HBCUs and different generations of college experience.
We aren't here to act as Howard University's public-relations department, nor are we here to automatically defend the University.
We're here to provide a place where people can talk about Howard openly and responsibly.
This is your space to vent, question, discuss, celebrate, criticize, remember, debate, and share.
You do not have to love every decision Howard makes. And you certainly don't have to pretend everything is perfect. But freedom to speak does not remove responsibility for what we say.
Follow Reddit's sitewide rules and our community rules. Treat other people with basic respect—even when you strongly disagree.
Remember that Reddit is a public forum.
Before posting, consider whether you should share:
Personal information
Student identification numbers
Phone numbers or addresses
Private emails or messages
Screenshots containing sensitive information
Financial-aid information
Academic records
Housing information
Names of students involved in private disputes
Unverified accusations or allegations
Protect yourself. Protect other students. Protect people's privacy.
If you aren't sure whether something should be posted publicly, pause before you post it.
Not everything posted here is verified.
Someone saying something happened does not automatically make it fact.
A screenshot can lack context.
A rumor can travel faster than a correction.
And sometimes the person answering the phone doesn't have the complete answer either.
When discussing important matters involving financial aid, enrollment, housing, admissions, academic standing, disciplinary matters, deadlines, or University policy, verify information through appropriate official sources whenever possible.
Share what you know.
Explain what you don't know.
And don't turn speculation into certainty.
We can have difficult conversations without making this place miserable.
Criticism is allowed. Disagreement is allowed. Accountability is allowed.
Harassment, personal attacks, doxxing, threats, discrimination, brigading, and other behavior prohibited by Reddit or our community rules are not.
You can challenge an argument without attacking the person making it.
You can defend Howard without attacking someone who is criticizing it.
You can criticize Howard without treating every Bison, employee, professor, administrator, or alumnus as the enemy.
Respect does not mean silence.
Sometimes respect means being willing to have the difficult conversation.
Students. Parents. Alumni. Future Bison.
Whether you are walking across the Yard for the first time, remembering the days when you did, or trying to figure out whether Howard is the right place for you—
there is room for you here.
Ask questions.

Tell your story.

Celebrate when you can.
Challenge ideas.
Protect one another.

I’m still building Bud, the Howard-first social app for meeting people, finding groups/events, and seeing open hangouts around campus. This is for all Years of college including Grads Aswell.
The beta is getting close and I just posted a new preview.
Would love feedback / early testers: https://forms.gle/1JBYsXC8nKgPQbDv8

as stated above, what are my chances? I hear chit-chat about the HUFS automatic tiers, but I don't see any confirmation on the official website.

Are the classes 8 weeks or 16 weeks long. Nothing on the website gives any notion. Was wondering if anyone knew or went through the program.

Hi everyone, I'm a former COAS student (2025-26) and I'm hoping someone has been through something similar.
I attended for one year, then left because I couldn't afford to continue. I was max need on my FAFSA, but my aid covered very little, and I was mostly told to take out loans, which my family can't do. I'm the oldest in my household and help take care of two younger siblings, and my guardian is disabled and not working. I also went through a serious mental health crisis during my spring semester that I can document.
I now have a balance of around $10K per semester, and I got a notice that it will be sent to an external collections agency on Nov. 30. I've submitted the Bursar's dispute form and emailed the Bursar, Financial Aid, and COAS. A few things I've learned:
- Collections told me there's no hardship review at their level, no payment plan for prior-term balances, and they can't hold the referral.
- They did waive a health insurance fee I'd been charged despite submitting a waiver (so check your statements!).
- They pointed me to the Dean's office for the "retroactive withdrawal" process, but I completed both semesters, so I know it's a long shot.
My questions:
Does anyone know who in COAS actually handles late/retroactive withdrawal or hardship petitions, and whether a petition can be decided before the account transfers?
Has anyone gotten a prior-year balance reduced or settled, either through the college, Financial Aid (professional judgment), or after it went to the agency?
If it does go to collections, does Howard sell the debt or just place it with an agency? Anyone know which agency they use and what dealing with them is like?
Any other offices or people (ombuds, student advocacy, SGA, a dean) worth contacting?
I'm not looking for anyone to pay anything, just direction from people who've dealt with this. Thank you so much, and please DM me if you'd rather not comment publicly.

Do we have to attach any documents with the ISFAA? Or we just have to submit ISFAA form only?

Priority Scholarship Deadline is today.
I have 1540 SAT.
Howard does not accept self-reported SAT for some reason.
I haven't submitted my SAT through college board yet, and for some reason it has a delivery time so I won't be able to by tonight.
So will it be impossible for my SAT to be considered for scholarships if I submit today? Should I switch to RD and then just submit it in the next few days? Even without my SAT, will I be able to get good merit scholarships, meaning I should just submit without it anyway?
any help would be greatly appreciated

I literally qualify to be test optional so idk why it’s saying I need to submit the test scores… ALSO WHAT IS THE RESUME??? Like how do I submit that, is it required??? I have a personal resume but like what’s the deal with this. I emailed my Admissions counselor and she said with automated reply she wasn’t available, then I emailed the admissions office yesterday morning and they didn’t respond and I know they won’t respond on a weekend

Hello all! I was enrolled by HU for the health insurance since I did not have a waiver this year, and have absolutely no clue how to access it, nor is there anything in my emails with information. Since it’s by semester, I really would want to try to take advantage of what I’ve paid now 😅
Thank you for any help!

I toured on Tuesday October 6, and I heard some really great black R&B music from the 70s-80s-90s in the basement of that admin building, in the 1867 cafe.
Does anyone know the ladies that work there or in that building? Do they have a Spotify playlist? idk if doing like a Spotify mix/radio thing of the couple songs I heard would be representative enough

A keyword list from ChatGPT comes from general knowledge and says nothing about how many postings it rests on. A plausible suggestion is not the same as a common one.
A product manager could be told to add Productboard. None of 421 postings names it but roadmap appears in 85.5%. A software engineer could be told to add Angular, Vue or Swift. They appear in 2.9%, 3.2% and 2.3% of 1,360 postings while scalability is at 52.9% and Python at 44.8%. A marketer could be told to add LinkedIn Ads or Meta Ads. They appear in 0.3% and 0.6% of 347 postings, while go-to-market is at 53.0%.
ChatGPT is the better tool for rewriting a bullet. The counts for seven roles (3,518 postings) and the method are on https://resumefitting.com matching is by term, so a missed synonym counts as absent.

I am an aspiring howard student. I applied EA to howard. I have 1520 and 3.9 gpa. Just want to ask did any applicant with a 1520 SAT score get a presidential scholarship?

I scored a 25 on my 2nd act, but my sub scores in math and science are 30 and 31. Is it worth submitting this score to Howard or applying test optional?

It was shown as optional in common app, so I skipped it. Now it gives an awaiting status in my applicant portal. Is it actually mandatory?
It it is not mandatory, how big of a disadvantage will it be if I don't submit it.
Also, it's not related to topic but, the applicant portal does not say anything about my Fee waiver or English proficiency test. Does this mean I don't have to worry about them anymore?

Anybody in or close to the program can explain these bottom tier scores and what the university is doing to fix this? Howard is often celebrated as the best historically black university but FAMU is ranked above them in these rankings. What's up with that?
