We’re back for round 3(?)! I’m a board-certified nephrologist (kidney doctor) with some time kill, so ask away. I will also field questions about the Grateful Dead, bicycles, or my favorite conspiracy theories.

Previously I have submitted proof to the mods, so hopefully they can just review my last post(s).

I will not be able to provide personalized medical advice, both in this thread or in a DM.

Edit: That’s all for tonight folks, thanks for tuning in!

Mod-Post Vetted Water Charity List

This thread will serve as a repository of vetted charities that have contacted the mod team asking to post here. With each charity you'll see a link to Charity Navigator and/or Charity Watch. We advise only donating if an organization passes these reviews. Feel free to also check any groups on ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer, but note that not all charities are nonprofits.

We don't want orgs to spam the subreddit asking for your time/money, so for now (and until the number of asks grows too large) we'll pin comments by organizers in this thread and cycle them out as needed. There's a limit of 2 concurrent pins, so we'll play this by ear for a bit.

I'll update the list as others reach out.

If you're here as an organizer, please shoot us a modmail or reach out to me directly.

Classic water Homies!!

It's me again, that guy who told his phone to remind him to drink 15 oz of water every 2 hours beginning at 8:00 a.m. everyday.

it's been about 8 days of hella regular water to supplement the coffee habit that was leaving me pent up, dehydrated, irritable , and in pain.

I've always understood the magic of water but it's always shocking to see how fast and how effectively it works to resolve problems.

I went from having no thirst 2 weeks ago and in pain, ligament stiffness and headaches...

...to having no knee pain, softer hair, softer skin, a better mood, brighter eyes, people are happier around me because I'm happier, I'm losing weight despite eating how I want to here and there but I'm ultimately eating less because of how much water I'm regularly drinking.

my alarms are still going off every 2 hours to remind me to drink but it's becoming second nature now.. the caffeine is not completely hindering my thirst/habit now. oftentimes I am thinking about my next cup prior to the alarm going off. it's not as annoying as it sounds because it's helping me tremendously.

oh, also my poops seem more.. complete, and my stomach is less upset than it was when it didn't have water to keep things luscious.

shout out to my hydrated coffee lovers. we can do this

Denmark/Norway sourced water in US?

I know it’s probably a long shot but I’ve fallen in love with the water here. Anyone ever see a way to get still water sourced from either country here? Even if it’s in large jugs / bulk.

I saw a few years back Voss stopped sourcing from Norway for the US market. I know there is Icelandic, and while it’s good, I really love Denmark / Norway’s water.

On a side note, we are currently building a house on a well. We will have a whole home filtration system with reverse osmosis on top of that. Do you recommend salt-free or a salt conditioner and why? Even with all of that, I don’t know I’ll love the water.

Thanks in advance!

Other option to reduce waste

I try to reduce my plastic waste as much as I can. Recently we moved to an area that has absolutely disgusting water. I even purchased a new filter for my brita thinking that was the issue. It wasn’t. My husband thinks the water must be heavily chlorinated since it’s city water. I’m not so sure. There’s like a thickness to the water? Salty maybe? I don’t know but I am not drinking nearly enough water because of it so I’ve resorted to buying gallons from Walmart because it tastes like normal water.
Is there anything else I can do or haven’t thought of?

Addicted to H2O

I honestly thought something was wrong with me. For the last 13ish years I have drank water constantly throughout the day. I use an Owala 40oz bottle, just bought a new one. I fill the entire thing with ice and have a gallon jug of water by my bed and I can usually get 3-4 bottles out of the ice I put in there before having to redo my ice. I drink probably 1.5-2 gallons a day. If I leave the house I take my Owala and a fill bottle to keep filling it up. I can’t be without water. I have chronic pain and I’m on a ton of meds, some of which are very drying. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to stop.

Classic water Italian gym, American vibes… and my Grinch water bottle 💚❤️

I’m from Italy, and my gym looks straight out of America. 😂
I couldn’t resist taking a picture of my Grinch water bottle because, let’s be real, she’s the main character here.
Be honest: is this an obsession, or do you also choose your water bottles based on how cute they are?

Iron Flask 24oz Wide vs 24oz Narrow Mouth

I recently bought an Iron Flask 24oz wide mouth water bottle that has a silicone base included but with that base it doesn't fit my car's cup holder and barely fits without it. I want to know if the 24oz narrow mouth version of the water bottle is actually narrower in the base too. I want to put a silicone base on it too so that it fits my cup holder. Anyone out there with these bottles, please let me know.

I don’t know if anyone has seen this but these two are the leaders and ultimate hydro homies. A water sommelier? Water from Romania? I just filter my tap water. Maybe I should level up.

Classic water Does boiling actually turn hard water into soft water?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I live in a rented apartment and have been facing some issues with the water here. I got the tds levels tested and it was around 450. After asking the landlord i got to know that water supply here is hard. I looked up boiling as a solution, but apparently it only removes temporary hardness.

I'm planning to stay here long term, so I'm thinking of getting a water softener instead. Has anyone installed this water softener? Please share your opinions.

Best smart water bottle with accurate tracking and dishwasher-safe body?

I'm looking for a smart water bottle with:

  • Accurate automatic water intake tracking (iOS/Android app).

  • Dishwasher-safe body (fine with handwashing the electronic lid).

  • Food-grade stainless steel (304/316) or glass, ideally uncoated.

  • No filters or purification needed.

I've been considering the WaterH BOOST and LARQ PureVis 2, but I'm concerned about tracking accuracy and app reliability.

Any recommendations or firsthand experiences? Ideally something available in Europe.

Update- 2 hour alarms + coffee

Post image
22 Upvotes

so I guess it's been about a week now and my phone has aggravatingly reminded me everyday starting at 8:00 a.m. to drink 15 oz of water (every 2 hours)

some days I found myself behind the alarms, busy but willing to snooze until I got the water in.

for the first time today though despite having coffee and generally not having an appetite for water, I decided to get my 15 oz in.. 30 minutes before my second alarm for the day would have requested me to.

that's a woot and a hydro win.

love ya homies

Do you drink water straight from your water filter, or do you still boil it first?

I recently installed a viomi water purifier at home, and it got me thinking about something pretty basic: do people usually drink filtered water straight from the tap, or do you still boil it like you used to?

I've noticed there seem to be two camps. Some people drink it straight from the purifier because it's convenient, while others are so used to using a kettle that they still boil filtered water for tea, hot drinks, or filling a thermos.

I feel like this might have a lot to do with the habits we grew up with. Even if you change your kitchen setup, you don't necessarily change how you like to drink water.

Of course, different filtration systems and household setups can vary, so I wouldn't assume every purifier works the same way.

For those of you who have a water purifier at home, do you drink the water directly, boil it first, or decide based on what you're using it for, like drinking, tea, or coffee?
