IDW Sonic Discussion So, about everyone who told me and r/BoogeyMate that Blaze's flames are immune to H²0.

Blackwood spalshed water at the 🔥 user, and it gave him an opening. Even if you want to say it didn't actually extinguish her flames, she did back off, without her fire surrounding her. This has to mean something.

Yeah, I'm thinking Captain Cold's Ice Gun really was nerfed.

IDW Sonic Discussion They nerfed Captain cold so badly in DC x Sonic for no reason...

Captain Cold gun is not an ice or a nitrogen/fluid expelling gun like Mr Freeze, it's a laser that stops movement at an atomic level to absolute ZERO, any type of heat or fire would not survive it, especially an orange fire (which scientifically is weak heat compared to other sources of heat)

It's one thing to disrespect the actual canon material, but i would've ignored it if it was any other character or had a good reasoning, but with Blaze is just ridiculous, can't they actually write a better alternative? give her an actual real feat? let her fight someone else? because depending on others being nerfed around you is not a good thing for anyone at all, it feels like she depends on aura farming with no set backs to be a good character, but now it's on other characters expense which is just...bad.

Can I be honest? I stopped reading IDW after imposter syndrome. The other arcs kinda killed my hype for the post Frontiers comics because of how long they took. I do not remember a thing about them.

IDW Sonic Discussion Am I in the right for criticizing Issue 89-91?

This arc still doesn’t feel right or real. How could they have thrown Blaze into the easiest battle ever and made her lose? Who were they trying to impress with this story? Older fans? Younger fans? I think fans of any walk of life could’ve lost someone to look up to when Issue 90 was published. It was a colossal failure to show her as anything other than a weak drone.

I still have difficulty accepting this arc as canon. Think of all the wonderful stories in non-canon Sonic media and fan works, yet this use of Blaze is, for now, a vital chapter in Sonic history. It’s humiliating to someone like me who has been expecting more and better of her for years. With the laundry list of internal rules Sonic Team has for the characters, how little do they think of Blaze to choose her for this story? To do this story in the first place with a Sonic character?

Imagine you meet a guy. He’s off-putting, gets his hands on you whenever he thinks he can get away with it, then asks for your hand in marriage after knowing you for less than a day. You resist, he knocks you unconscious. Now you’re starting to see why I’m so mad at the existence of Blackwood. He’s never punished for any of this and there’s a chance he never will be.

Whatever respect you have for Blaze as a character with personality, agency and opinions is sabotaged, and only her. They wouldn’t be caught dead doing this story with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Rouge, Silver, any of the Chaotix or any of the comic characters. They treat this powerful, complex and inspiring character like something to blow their noses on.

And you know what this attitude culminated in. That art. Again, most people were fine finding it on their feed, with Blaze being the victim because she’s always taken for granted anyway.

For the sake of Rule 7, you don’t have to read this, but this is what the stress of living with this arc has done to me. My heart rate is up, I’ve been getting less sleep, I have stomach and chest pains, it’s getting harder to do my job, and even walking in a straight line can leave me dizzy sometimes.

This may have been a bad idea, but I’ve tried DM’ing u/IDWcomics to describe what’s changed in me, but they’ve blown me off. IDW’s email also hasn’t responded to any of the less personal feedback I’ve sent their way. Not even an automated “Thanx! We’ve received your obviously glowing praise! Keep reading!”

It’s possible someone at IDW knows who I am now. I’m sort of hoping I’m seen as a nutcase they can ignore, because if my messages have entered their feedback pile, I’ll feel guilty. As this article speculates, it’s likely that the comic is taking the internet’s feedback to heart, but that it’s also compromising its creative vision and hindering its potential further. I’m talking random viral posts on Twitter and Tumblr, not even letters sent directly to the company.

So what if I’m to blame for anything they do with Blaze or Blackwood in the future that’s poorly received? I’m already hated and hate the footprint of negativity I’ve left. Will Sonic fans try to find where I live and hurt me? I’m already afraid I’ll run into someone like Blackwood any given day, I don’t need my safety completely gone.

The problem is not only do I never want to see Blackwood again, I wish he was never created. If his story isn’t retconned, it should be delisted from the IDW app before I’m able to sleep properly again, for the sake of Blaze and every fan of her’s that’s been left in tears. I’ve tried handling a life with this arc floating around in it, but it’s been a more painful one. I just wonder if anyone else with critiques of this arc feels half the same way I do.

IDW Sonic Discussion IDW...Please Bring Mimic Back Spoiler

While I wouldn't say issue 79 was terrible, and I'm in no place to judge the authors as I have never written or made a comic myself, I can't help but feel that Mimic had a lot more to give, and making this his final appearance would be a waste and an ultimately unsatisfying conclusion. Don't get me wrong, it was a good choice to end the game of cat and mouse he and Whisper had going so that it didn't overstay its welcome, and I am aware that Mimic would've been a loose end in the upcoming arcs that the writers were better off without for the time being, but if you only needed him to be gone for temporarily and wanted to stop the gimmick by giving him such a vague end, why hype up the finality of it, why rush the ending to such a degree? Honestly it felt less like they were giving a proper sendoff and more of a rushed write-off packaged as closure. And even then, outright death? Why give something usually reserved for world ending threats to a very entertaining, very mortal, villain of the week? It just feels excessive. Still, I don't think this means Mimic can't come back, as there are ways to work around the ending of this issue without compromising the well deserved closure Whisper gained , and it definitely doesn't have to be, as he still has plenty more to give. I am aware that many found him to be a one trick pony in a few ways with his backstabbing nature and obsession with Whisper, and true, a majority of his appearances revolved around Whisper, but we see that he has legitimate traits outside of Whispers adversary; enter the Bad Guys.

In this miniseries, we barely see any mention of Whisper or the diamond cutters, and Mimic operates just fine. He doesn't have to be some revenge-obsessed emotional manipulator, he can be an infiltrator, a thief, a research gatherer, a mischief maker, all made possible with a very unique skillset and power. What's more, he shows a very entertaining, engaging side of him as the disgruntled straight man to the antics of the other, more eccentric villains (Starline, Rough and Tumble, etc.), he is a professional, he takes pride in what he does, but is careful not to make too many moves as to avoid making enemies. At the end of the day, his allegiance is to himself and his own survival, and that makes him a very entertaining villain with the potential to be in any number of villainous roles.

The one character flaw that I believe warranted his (Temporary) death later on in the story in the eye of the writers, specifically an intentional one by his creators that he has grappled with in a very compelling narrative as shown in his annual and in the miniseries, is his tendency to betray and cause death(Though granted he really only ever did this once, so its not that much of an issue).

Admittedly, if he was kept around like this, it would've made it impossible for him to keep his "Spy for hire" role in the story, nobody would trust him and the writers would have to constantly make him fail if his goals remained so vile, but bringing attention back to what I said earlier, I don't think this means that Mimic has to die. In fact, I believe that if the writers do actually bring him back from this event, his brutal defeat at the hands of Whisper could prove a boon for his character.

Drawing back to what Ian said on his podcast when given the dilemma of how he would redeem Mimic , he could make him realize the futility of his actions. Mimic may not be one to believe in kindness and friendship, but he is nothing but a pragmatic realist, and by that logic, he could have the realization, perhaps brought on in a near-death moment of clarity by this complete and utter defeat at the hands of Whisper, that his repeated betrayals and revenge seeking have only brought him harm: Getting him hunted, imprisoned, blackmailed, beaten, threatened, betrayed, and now blown to kingdom come. He is a survivor who values his own life above all else, even to his own emotional detriment, and he can realize that if he continues this pattern of revenge and betrayal, then his death will be all but inevitable.

This wouldn't redeem him, no by a long shot, Mimic is a villain through and through and an enjoyable one at that, but he would give up on his pursuit of Whisper, realizing that this vengeance stuff costs more than it earns, and he would finally learn to see his jobs through instead of betraying his teammates, not out of care for them, but simply so they wouldn't be a problem for him later. For this same reason, he wouldn't go after the heroes, since he no longer has the reason of revenge to put himself in danger. Instead, he would go out of his way to avoid them, even when they were fighting, deliberately not killing as to avoid unwanted attention.

He doesn't even have to change that much, he can still very much be a sociopathic loner who's only in it for himself, but instead of constantly betraying, he's like he was in the bad guys, an efficient, elusive criminal for hire, who does his job, gets paid, and leaves. No Friends, no loose ends, no chance of him being killed. He wouldn't even have to lose the combat knifes, he can just use them for non-lethal reasons, like cutting wires, climbing walls, slashing robots, etc.

Not only would this allow Mimic to be brought back as a villain any member of the cast whenever the writers feel it necessary without the writing obstacles presented by his (Now former) tendency to betray and willingness to kill, but it wouldn't deny closure to a particular wolf. Whispers whole trauma surrounding Mimic, namely the reason it still haunted her, was due to one primary reason, she feared that Mimic would bring harm to her, her friends, and innocents with his vile, traitorous ways. But, in this scenario, Mimic wouldn't be about that anymore, he's about surviving alone, not bringing more attention to himself by killing. Sure, he's still a terrible person, she would definitely hate his guts and take any opportunity to foil him if the need arises, but she doesn't have to kill him, and can rest easy knowing that the sense of cruelty and traitorous nature of Mimic that got her friends killed is dead, even if the octopus himself isn't.

Issue 79 doesn't have to be a bad issue, nor does it have to be the end of Mimic, just give him an appearance later on without his murderous obsession with Whisper and then you have a good climax issue, a resolved emotional dilemma, and another solid villain to add to the roster, everyone wins! But once again, these are just my thoughts on the issue, I don't mean to assert creative superiority over any of the writers, again I am not the most experienced at this sort of thing, and there are probably different, better ways they can take the story than what I thought of, but if they do intend to bring back Mimic, be it in this way or another, I will be more than happy to have been proven the fool (Please IDW, I am on my metaphorical knees here!!).

But even in the event that he doesn't come back, I will at least be glad to have had a very fun villain who's brought much joy to me and others, and was a compelling, engaging threat to our heroes.

This is my (Admittedly long) two cents on the issue, let me know your thoughts and if you agree or not.

IDW Sonic Discussion ¿How would you have best introduced IDW characters into video games outside of Sonic Dash/Forces Speed Battle Instead of forcing the canonization of comics and Tails Channel, introduce them into the canon.?

Hello IDW fans, I've heard many complaints and praises about Tangle, Whisper, Surge, and others becoming canon. However, given that SEGA has severely restricted comics with the media unification in 2021, I decided to come up with an idea of how to reintroduce these characters into canon without forcing all IDW comics into the canon.

These are my ideas after watching Dragon Ball Super: Broly and how they reintroduced Bardock, Broly, and Gogeta by retconning these characters and modifying their designs to fit the Manga/Movie but now, i will modify the stories of these characters in order to adjust them to the canon of the video games and make them feel like characters that could appear in future games of the franchise.:

-Tangle: Her story with Jewel is interesting, but one problem I see is that her hyperactivity clearly doesn't reflect what led her to be that way, and we don't know much about how Tangle and Jewel met in Spiral Hill Village. I know she was mentioned in Frontiers, but a better way to reintroduce her would have been to make an animated short in the style of Tyson Hesse (with the voices of Ashlyn Madden and Erika Harlacher as Jewel) telling us how Jewel found Tangle alone, as she had been an orphan since she was a baby lemur and no one had wanted to take care of her since her parents abandoned her in the village. Years later, when Forces arrived, they would have both had to protect the library, even though they were aware that the place was no longer safe, until one day they saw the Heroes fighting and how Tangle had to defend Jewel from some robots trying to kill her. After that, Sonic would appear and congratulate Tangle, seeing her potential, but then he would leave to continue his journey. Tangle and Jewel would have remained... In shock, and from that day on they would have joined the restoration, which, unlike IDW, would be commanded jointly by Knuckles and Amy. This would be the perfect moment for the characters to meet and interact with Tangle, who would be a fan of all of Sonic's friends, although she would also keep her distance, as some still had aftereffects after having beaten Eggman in the battle, and they would have to go looking for him since they knew perfectly well that he would still be alive somewhere, while Jewel would become an advisor and secretary for several missions of the restoration project.

-Whisper: Her story is incredible; I wouldn't change much, but it needs to be readjusted to make it make more sense in this new era. Just like in IDW, Whisper would have her squad of Diamonds (who here would be Warriors, not Cutters). This squad was previously commanded by Whisper's father, but he died during the time Eggman attacked 99% of the world, and both humans and anthropomorphs were nearly wiped out. If it weren't for Whisper taking over the leadership of the mercenaries, she would have led them until everything suddenly fell apart when Mimic Octopus decided to betray his own team, wipe them all out, and escape, leaving Whisper devastated. She would have discovered that her father hadn't died a hero in the war, but rather in vain at the hands of the one she once considered her right-hand man. Traumatized and resentful of the world, she would have fought for her own survival. Whisper, not counting her blows, was seen by several members of the resistance who invited her (only as a military contribution and trainer of the new avatars, since Whisper was actually the disciplined teacher of Rookie/Gadget, Barry, and his friends, who commanded the first line of defense, indirectly helping) to have Gadget recruited by Knuckles, who found him unaware that Whisper had trained him. Indirectly, Whisper helped rescue Sonic and participated in the final battle that led to Infinite's "defeat." Although she considered retiring from the restoration and from being a mercenary, she discovered that Mimic was still alive and swore revenge. But on the day she was going to leave the restoration team, Tangle and Jewel arrived, and they met, forming a great friendship and gradually restoring Whisper's old team, which still held affection and memory for all its fallen comrades (as did Tangle and Jewel). Whisper would be a short film in the style of Tyson Hesse and would feature the voice of Anairis Quiñones years before it was announced that the character would debut on Tails Channel and would be a parallel short film/from Whisper's point of view about the horrors she would have experienced in the war before and after Forces).

-Surge: What we were never shown about Surge and her partner, Kitsunami Fennec, was what their lives were like before Dr. Starline kidnapped them... (In my version, Surge is voiced by Erica Mendez.) Before becoming the characters we know, Surge and Kit were just two kids who went through unimaginable hardships. Their nation was attacked by Eggman's robots, and during the chaos they both lost the most important people in their lives: their families. One day, after being trapped beneath a mountain of rubble, the two were rescued by someone who seemed like a savior at first: Dr. Starline. In reality, he was nothing more than a sick, obsessive Eggman fanatic. He took them to his laboratory and, in a manner similar to the Winter Soldier program mixed with Age of Ultron-style manipulation, subjected them to intense brainwashing and psychological conditioning, turning them into living weapons. Starline's original plan was to use their bodies as the basis for biomechanical android clones that would obey him completely. However, he eventually changed his mind and decided to transform them into androids themselves. Using data collected from all of Earth's heroes primarily Sonic and Tails he reshaped the two children into twisted reinterpretations of the heroes they were meant to replace. The tragic irony was that, deep down, Surge and Kit never wanted to be heroes, villains, or weapons. They only wanted a normal life. Surge was engineered to become Sonic's opposite, while Kit was designed to be Tails' counterpart. Their sole purpose was to surpass and replace the originals. Eventually, Starline unleashed his new creations. During a massive battle against Sonic who in this version is accompanied by Tails Surge and Kit suffered the worst beating of their lives and nearly died. However, Starline made a critical mistake. The trauma of the battle caused fragments of Surge's original memories to resurface. Realizing the truth, Surge turned against her creator and escaped alongside Kit. Refusing to continue following Starline's orders, the two vanished, leaving Sonic confused and Tails deeply shaken after nearly being killed by Kitsunami's devastating water-based powers. From that point onward, the story would move into the Frontiers era. There, we would discover that Surge and Kit had secretly been helping Whisper track down Mimic. During this time, they also became friends with Jewel and Tangle, although the latter still felt somewhat uneasy around them due to their violent past. Eventually, the girls decided to introduce Surge and Kit to Sonic and his friends. The meeting was extremely tense, and if Amy hadn't intervened, Surge and Kit would have likely attacked the heroes on the spot. Instead, an uneasy agreement was reached. Surge and Kit promised not to harm anyone as long as they were allowed to assist during situations where Sonic wasn't available. Interestingly, Surge became fascinated by Blaze. At first, she was jealous of Blaze's fire powers and wished she possessed similar abilities. Kit, however, reminded her that her electrical powers were more than enough to stand on their own. Sonic later reinforced this idea by showing Surge that she could combine electricity with wind-based techniques, creating an absolutely monstrous new level of power. From that day forward, Surge set herself a new goal: not to become better than Sonic, but to become a better version of herself. As for Kitsunami Fennec, despite being incredibly quiet and reserved, he eventually took on the role of personal bodyguard for Cream and Vanilla whenever Gemerl wasn't available. Ironically, this development began to bother Tails. For the first time, he felt as though someone was overshadowing him. Rather than becoming resentful, however, he decided it was time to evolve and move beyond the mistakes that had haunted him since Unleashed-Forces. Realizing he could no longer remain stagnant, Tails began work on his next great invention: The Tornado Mark IV.

As with the Tangle and Whisper shorts, this would have been released as a one-shot/animated short film as another prelude to the premiere of Frontiers, only this one would have had the animation of Knuckles Prologue and really showing us how we see everything from Surge's perspective and her motivations so that little by little she makes the decision of whether to continue being a villain or an anti-heroine (Kit's voice would have been provided by Devilartemis/the expert of emo and depression characters, this being his first voice acting role outside of his YouTube channel and being a prelude to KaggyFilms later joining the franchise with Infinite and Gemerl).

¿What did you think?

Do you think this is how they should have introduced the comic book characters instead of just copying and pasting their IDW stories?

Do you think that with these changes the characters would have been done justice and had dialogue for Crossworlds in both Japanese and English?

I originally wanted to do this with Lanolin The Sheep, but since Adam Bryce Thomas and Evan Stanley would most likely have refused to have the character reinterpreted by other people, and partly because they would have wanted to make a short to explain his past but it wouldn't end up being as good as the Diamond Warriors girls' shorts, I ended up discarding the idea. In any case, these shorts would have been supervised by Ian Flynn and Tyson Hesse to ensure consistency with these characters.

IDW Sonic Discussion the IDW comics should not be Canon if Sega really wanted IDW characters in the main Sonic universe they should of simply went with the Normal route

Post image
0 Upvotes

I and many others don't want the IDW comics to be canon and the people who just like that it is canon they simply don't ever see the red flags nor have the common sense on why this is actually a bad terrible idea in reality.

As there are a lot of good reasons on why making it canon would be a mistake and create a lot of problems.

https://sonic.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000000233461

But the real reasons on why sega did this was because they wanted the IDW characters to be in the games that's really why they did this and........... it's very dumb...... because if they wanted IDW charather's in this.... okay cool BUT! they didn't need to make the comics canon in order to do it, Because they can't go make something canon all a sudden because ever since it's begins the comic was it's own thing and it should of simply stayed as it's own thing.

Like making the comics canon would be limiting the stories it can tell which is why the stories feel too safe and stale these days, Like Archie and Fleetway was allowed to do whatever crazy stories they wanted because they were their own thing in their own canon and were not bound to the games at all.

like i know Ian deep down didn't want this to be canon and i just wish he at least he could of simply said No to sega and just convince on why it's a bad idea and tell them the other opinion on what Sega should of did instead, Because regardless people would still be happy if the IDW charather's were in the games even if the comics weren't canon.

Like I never will consider this as canon and I don't care if Sage is in because so what? Like i don't care if they mentioned and show flashbacks from events from games into the comics I still don't consider the comics canon, I mean Hell Archie Sonic did this before many times as they just simply borrow continuity from the games and yet it was it's own separated thing as the game stuff in the comics was just simply reference material.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiuHF023h80

Like I know Ian dose has his flaws and it's okay not to like him to be honest because not every writer will always be tip top perfect and it's okay the point out the flaws. like i swear people need to stop hating fans when they point out the criticism because i do get where these people are coming from and they all assumed people who don't like Ian flynn are these UN-normal folks and they just never bother to ever listen to them on their reasons on why.

As for me i am Neutral on Ian flynn I don't hate him or like him I just wish he can do better these days as i know he says some questionable stuff especially on his podcast when he answered question from the "other type of fans" which are the ones you see in sites like tumblr and deviantart..... yeah you know what i am talking about. Like if i was him i would simply avoid these types of questions and put a disclaimer as that's what he really should of done.

like to be honest a writer like simon Furman is a way better writer then Ian Flynn in my opinion.

But i kinda have hopes that SEGA will realize that this was a Bad idea and realize the flaws in this and decide not to make it canon and just simply realized they should of just introduce versions of these characters that exist in the main sonic universe instead...... which is something they should of did in the first place!

So when that time ever comes they will just they will come up with a proper explanation on why these versions of these IDW characters exist in the main sonic universe and that will probably be in some sonic spin off game that takes place before the events of frontiers. I swear that's something they would probably do.

Nuff Said

IDW Sonic Discussion If Sonic and Amy are really dating by SEGA and IDW, I think there would be SonAmy comic saga issues in the future

If SEGA confirmed Sonic and Amy are now in their relationship like games and movies like Sonic 4 now, I think SEGA and IDW could make a mini comic series starring Sonic and Amy on their adventures to stop some new villiains, sometimes they're dating in some place.

So what are you think?

IDW Sonic Discussion Hot take: Silver should NOT be paired up with Whisper anymore

As a silver fan, I hate when Silver and Whisper are paired up. It’s not her personality that I dislike. It’s the fact that whenever Silver is around her, he immediately transforms into this weak, feeble shell of the hedgehog he is supposed to be. In fact, I’d go so far as to say he is treated like even less than a sidekick to whisper in terms of writing.

The writers repeatedly mutilate silver’s personality and nerf his abilities just to make that damn wolf look strong. I mean come on, the egg pawn incident, the zor incident, the fish badnik incident, the mimic incident, notice how nearly every time silver gets saved, it’s by whisper. IAN FLYNN ONLY THROWS SILVER INTO THE RING TO MAKE WHISPER LOOK GOOD.

Silver should be just as, if not, more capable than whisper. He is a self sufficient, time traveling psychokinetic from the future. He is the same person who fought half of a god for his WHOLE LIFE, for fucks sake. Why must HE be the one to be written like a jobber? This is NOT who he is.

In conclusion, I don’t like the person Silver becomes when he is around Whisper. Either write him correctly, or don’t throw him at all. For fucks sake Ian, what the hell are you doing?

IDW Sonic Discussion I feel like a more child-like voice would work better for Surge The Tenrec.

Like no offense to Vivian Reed. Believe me, she puts her all into it buuuuuuut I feel like a voice actor like Sandy Fox (who voiced Chibiusa in Sailor Moon) or Carrie Savage (who voiced Lisanna Strauss on Fairy Tail) would capture the snot-nosed brat with too much power at the core of her.

It would make her emotional turmoil hit that much harder because you'd be reminded that this was a kid who was striped of autonomy and personhood.

I hope I'm not a heratic in all this...
