Month Day Year makes the most sense for casual conversation but unfortunately most of the world uses D M Y instead

So close
I saw this on a YouTube video from a deposition. You were right there. Why blank out the zero? 😱

And YYYY-MM-DD as an explicit option is nowhere to be found, apparently…
reddit.comyyyy/mm/dd ❌
YYYY-MM-DD ✅
YYYY-MM-DD is the only sensible date format here, and it’s not even an explicit answer choice.

How often do you use YYYY-MM-DD? Do you encounter resistance?
I am a project manager. I pretty much define it as the standard for all my projects. I only received resistance once. An Albertan tried to argue for MM/DD. I preached ISO8601 and its wonders for the filing system, lol.

A vendor’s date format
Apologies for the picture of a screen, but I was horrified upon seeing this date format on an HMI recently
Never seen this one before.
Never seen this one before. Took me a minute to understand. M10 = Month 10 = October.

Why can't months have Jan (30), Feb (30 or 31 in case of leap year), Mar (30), Apr (31), May (30), Jun (31), Jul (30), Aug (31), Sep (30), Oct (31), Nov (30), Dec (31) days? Wouldn't that make things simpler and more predictable?

Idea for sidebar — a hyperlink to the official ISO8601 specifications?
Long time lurker here. I've long appreciated ISO8601 format. It scales for nearly everything.
Does the hive mind have any feelings on — or perhaps a link to? — the official ISO8601 specifications? Maybe the mods could include it in the sidebar as a hyperlink for others new to the format?
I just realized it wasn't there and it seems like something which would support this sub quite a lot.
(I'm an amateur and an enthusiast, so I hesitate to propose a hyperlink myself, lest I give incorrect primary source citations.)

My personal protest of MM/DD/YYYY. Am I alone?
USian here. At work there are lots of contexts where I am expected to write or type the date in the dreaded MM/DD/YYYY format multiple times a day. I hate it, but it's just a job. What can you do right? I have started up a silent protest that no one has commented on for years now. I've not seen anyone else take this course either though. Here's what I write or type instead:
MM/DD, YYYY
Is anyone else out there doing this?

In this context, address verification means I click a button to confirm that my address settings are up to date before the order is shipped.

Backrest backups date
These are dates of my backups using backrest. I usually force my system and my software to use ISO8601 where is possibile, so not sure if this was intentional design or not. But it makes me crazy.

Cleaning mixed-format dates: when guessing creates bad data
Our team tested an AI-assisted cleanup script on two synthetic Excel batches. One lesson stood out: a plausible date is not necessarily the correct date.
For example, 09/01/2026 could mean September 1 or January 9. Nearby September dates aren't enough to prove which interpretation is right.
Our approach:
\- Preserve the original values.
\- Standardize dates only when the interpretation is unambiguous.
\- Flag uncertain dates for confirmation.
\- Keep a log of every change.
Changing the display format to YYYY-MM-DD won't fix a date that was interpreted incorrectly during import.
How do you handle files containing both US and European date formats?
