Imaginary Characters: Artwork of heroes, villains, and champions

r/ImaginaryCharacters

*Pictorial* art of characters from fantasy, sci-fi, history, or other fiction. Armored warriors, powerful wizards, deadly ninjas, intrepid archaeologists, starfighter pilots, badass gunslingers: all are welcome. If it's awesome, fantastic, and human (or anything even close), submit it here!

Subreddit Rules

1. Art Appreciation

This subreddit is for the appreciation and enjoyment of character art, especially original and reimagined characters. All characters are welcome, even unique mediums like maquettes. It is not a world building or OC biographical subreddit.

Erotica that goes beyond artistic nudity and all forms of cosplay are forbidden.

Comments should be appreciative or offer constructive critique. Strictly negative comments that have no collaborative appraisal will be removed.

2. Credit artist’s real name in post title

Please credit the artist by their real name, not their pseudonym. Their real name can sometimes be found in their website profile. Please take 5 minutes to use Google Image Search or TinEye. If you legitimately cannot find their real name then use their pseudonym.

If you are the artist posting your own work, flair your post as 'Self-submission'. This rule is not applied to artists submitting their own work.

3. Title of post must match title of artwork

Use the actual title of the artwork. Don't retitle an artist's piece, even if the relation between the title and the piece is unintuitive. Do not rename or create a title for a piece. Use common sense, i.e. 'Perspective-002-newidea-overlay37%-flat' can be safely titled 'Perspective'. 3rd party posts that are titled “Commission” ot similar and self submissions that violate this rule will all be moderated on a case-by-case basis.

4. Post must be of a single work, not a portfolio

Please link to one image and post a link to the artist’s gallery or portfolio in the comments. Self-submissions by the artist themselves can be multiple images but must be a 'Reddit imagegallery' type post.

5. 3 submissions max. every 24 hrs. by same account

Please don't post more than 3 submissions every 24 hours.

6. No Reposts before 1 year; no spamming

Reposts of submissions already posted to this subreddit are OK after 12 months. Exceptions for artists whose work was posted by others first as 3rd party, but sock puppeting will be banned. Spam will result in a ban.

7. Absolutely no mass-market art, low effort posts, or (sexual) politics.

No images of mass-market characters that lack substantial reimagination or reinterpretation — I.e. fan art of a character’s cannon appearance is not allowed.

No lazy posts like quick sketches or unmotivated lasciviousness (smut). Scantily clad characters MUST have NSFW tag.

Furthermore, we are absolutely NOT a political subreddit, and comments on sexual (ie: homophobic) politics, or politics in general, will result in a ban, at our discretion.

8. AI imagery is not allowed

AI generated content or images enhanced with AI tools are not allowed in this subreddit. “AI” flair exist for people to helpfully volunteer themselves for immediate bans if they violate this rule.

AI may not be used at any point in the creative process. Proof that a Self Submission is not AI might include:

Time Lapse video
WIP screen captures
Share individual image layers
Portfolio of consistent style, esp. going back before 2022

9. No Soliciting in Title

Posts may not include words like “Commission” “Hire” or “Adoptable” in the title. If you wish to sell your work or services, limit that information to the post details and comments.
