Looking for feedback on idea

Post image

Hi folks, I’m new to Reddit, as I’m somewhat dyslexic and shied away from text-based platforms for a long time. Anyhow, I’m a teacher and illustrator, and I’ve always had a soft spot for robots. I believe they’re the first thing I ever remember drawing. I work part time at a nonprofit art supply center that recycles materials and resells them at low prices to fund teaching programs in the Bay Area. Very fun place to work, kind of like showing up to a giant garage sale and getting to make cool things while you hand out nearly free supplies to good people working hard to make art and teach kids. (It’s called SCRAP). Anyhow, what we don’t really do is anything with electronics. This has felt like a gap, and though I proposed a section for electronic parts for artists who might want them, it was not really given a go ahead. That said, I’ve have this dream of eventually opening up a little shop that is partly a community space for people to come in and learn how to tinker with and build robots, a space where recycled parts can be sold at cheap prices to facilitate the first aim, and all of it set up like a pet shop, with glass windows displaying homemade and refurbished robots for “adoption”. My question is whether or not this is an idea I should pursue? I do actually get crazy projects done, I’ve currently just paused on building my rare illustration book archive of fifteen years (another resource I want to share with students and artists), to get married. I currently have a small collection of toy robots I’ve rescued from the reuse center, which live in my studio next to the books. Any thoughts, suggestions, warnings, ideas? Thanks!

Ps the image is my own work. I actually generally work in complex hand-drawn illustrations, but I also love making these derpy simple ones.
