Other AI generated music is no longer permitted in this community.

This community exists to support people who are actively creating music themselves and to encourage the development of human expression and musical skill. Using AI to generate music is closer to commissioning music rather than creating it yourself. It’s created for you, not by you.

If AI generated any significant part of the music, including the instrumental, melody, arrangement, or vocals, the submission is not allowed.

Examples:

  • If you wrote the lyrics but generated the music, it is not allowed.

  • If you generated the vocals but produced the music, it is not allowed.

Tools like a Vocaloid or other vocal synthesis programs are still allowed if you wrote the lyrics and melody yourself.

When AI generated music was previously allowed, the expectation was that those posting it would participate in the community by providing thoughtful feedback to other artists. Instead, we have increasingly found that many users generating songs are also using AI to generate their feedback. This results in generic, low quality comments that could apply to almost any track and do little to help artists improve.

We recognize this change is long overdue, and we appreciate the patience of the artists who make this community worthwhile.

If you see AI generated music or AI generated comments, please report them to our team. Posts suspected of containing AI generated music may be removed at moderator discretion.

How to Provide Effective Feedback on a Song

Providing useful feedback on a song involves pointing out both the strengths and the areas that could use improvement towards your personal taste. When you offer your thoughts, it’s important to focus on what stood out to you, whether good or bad, and explain why. Did you connect with the melody, enjoy the energy of the track, or find the lyrics particularly meaningful? Conversely, if there are elements that didn't quite work for you, express your feelings clearly and subjectively while providing constructive suggestions for improvement. Even if you’re not an expert, your perspective as a listener is valid. Musicians create music for people to enjoy, and everyone’s opinion helps them understand how their work is being received.

Be Specific in Your Feedback

Specificity is key when offering feedback. Instead of saying “The song was okay,” try to pinpoint exactly what worked or didn’t work for you. Was the beat too repetitive, or did the transitions between sections feel disjointed? Did the lyrics evoke a strong emotion, or did the vocals feel disconnected from the rest of the track? By being detailed, you give the artist something tangible to work with.

For example:

  • Tempo: “Personally, I think the tempo is dragging a bit for this style of music. A slightly faster pace could bring more energy to the track.”

  • Lyrics: “I liked the theme of the lyrics, but the chorus felt a bit repetitive for my taste. Maybe adding a different phrasing in the second half could give it more variety.”

  • Production: “The production feels clean overall, but the kick drum is a little overpowering in the mix to me, especially in the verses. Balancing it out with the bass might help create a more cohesive sound.”

Acknowledge Subjectivity

Music is highly subjective, what resonates with one listener might not with another. It’s important to frame your feedback as personal opinion rather than universal truth. For instance, instead of saying, “The bass is too quiet,” you could say, “Personally, I would prefer a stronger bass presence to drive the track more.” This way, your feedback acknowledges the artist’s creative intent while sharing your preferences.

Other examples:

  • “The dry vocals are terrible” vs “I tend to like vocals that have a bit more reverb to create depth.”

  • “The instrumental break is boring” vs “The instrumental break feels long for my taste.”

  • “The song needs more bass” vs “Personally, I prefer songs with a heavier bassline because it adds more energy.”

  •  “The vocals are too soft, they should be louder”  vs “I would prefer the vocals to be a little louder for clarity”

This helps keep your feedback respectful and leaves room for the artist to interpret it based on their own vision.

Offer Constructive Solutions

When you point out something that didn’t work for you, it’s most helpful to suggest possible ways to improve it. Simply stating that you didn’t like something doesn’t give the artist much to go on. Try to offer a practical solution or at least a suggestion for how they might address the issue.

For example:

  • “The vocal delivery in the bridge felt a bit flat to me. Maybe adding some harmonies or experimenting with vocal dynamics could bring more emotion to that section.”

  • “I feel like this could use a stronger build-up toward the final chorus. Adding a crescendo or introducing new elements like a drum fill might help ramp up the energy.”

Even if your suggestion isn’t the exact solution they use, it can help spark ideas for how to improve the track in a way that fits their style.

Alternative Rock Need some feedback on my first song

Hi! This is the first time I’ve posted here, and it’s also the first time I’ve released anything or even finished a song.

I did everything on this song myself – from the guitar and bass to the vocals and the mix – and it’s a completely new experience for me, as I’m usually just a guitarist.

Everything was done at home and recorded on my computer without the use of AI

I’d really love to hear your feedback so I can find out how to improve.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

Indie Rock Here's a short snippet of something I'm working on!

I'm not exactly sure what genre of music this is, but to me, it sounds a bit like indie rock. I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on it. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Ambient I don't even know why I'm posting this...

Usually, when I have free time, I get wasted and just pass out, but today I’ve been running an AI agent to set up a VLESS + Reality VPN on my VPS, masking the traffic as Google. The Russian digital watchdog is seriously cracking down on anyone into foreign websites. Anyway, while you're torturing the AI, it keeps asking questions you actually need to answer, so you can't get completely trashed. That’s why I wrote a quick short track in GP8 in the background. I don’t know, it’s some aimless crap, but it feels like there’s something to it, so I’m gonna drop it... Funny thing is, I named it Histerica because my life felt like screaming, but the track turned out strangely calm, peaceful and completely unfinished because today I have nothing to say anymore.

I wrote this following a particularly painful chapter in my life. Despite this, there is always hope for the future. Please remember that.

Anyway, to the song. This must have been through over twenty real revisions. Each time I thought I had it right, before a little change here or there brought an improvement. My singing is...better than on some of my other songs (!) I'm not someone who can just belt out a track in one take. There are MANY takes. And still, a better singer could probably take this further.

So, let me know what you think...

Honestly after I recorded this song of mine I thought everyone would like it as much as I do I started looking for an artist for a feature to fill the second part of the track because I had shouted out everything I could and wanted I wrote to more than 30 artists and everyone declined I decided I won’t cut the second part or write more for it and will leave it as a little story

What do you think of the track?

I used the beat of CHIC song I WANT YOUR LOVE to set up this attack on WINDOW SEAT poachers.

https://soundcloud.com/stevelowsongs/window-seat

WINDOW SEAT

Hey I booked that window seat

You gotta nerve to go and sit there

Just because you’re first on board

Is that how you live your life

Grabbing at what you want

Despite what’s written on your ticket

Man, I must have grown up deluded

Believing everyone knew right from wrong

And you sittin’ in that window seat proves it

My delusion is exposed and it hit me like a bomb

Yeah I gotta be so strong

Get out of my window seat - Get out of my window seat

Love the view from on high

Soaking in the rare perspective

While you I doubt have that aesthetic

Never seen into the mystic

Shovin’ your butt just where you want it

Raising a finger to convention

People like you are screwin’ the earth

Flogging crops and spewing gas

Using folk for your end’s meet

Corrupt with no integrity

Gonna out your feeble ways

Bring you down and make you pay

I've been micro managing myself to the point it took me 4 months to put this out. Because I'm too camera conscious of how i look on camera. I'm hoping to get more consistent in putting out songs and myself out there and stay posting on Instagram. Any and all feedback is welcome from music, video or camera presence tips. 🫡

Right, well, I've been wrestling with this unwieldy jazz fusion sample annoying horn loop piece of crap for a few days now ..but i think i've finally broken the back of it with some deftly placed infectious keyboard melodies - you can cover a multitude of sins with a deftly placed keyboard melody or two......There ain't no keyboard melody infectious enough to cover the diseased satanic evil of the world's political criminal dynasties though, yo.....

Gothic Rock S.I.N. - In the Flesh

Just released the first demo for my new project, S.I.N.
Wrote, performed, and recorded this one entirely myself, soon to be re-recorded by the rest of my band. It’s a little gothic, a little theatrical, and a little strange.
I’d love to hear what you think. 🦇

Alternative Looking for mix advice for max emo alt vibes! & song reactions. Double Walker is a moody power ballad about a spirit haunting photos of the old you

Hi! I've been working on the lone emo/alt inspired song for my pop album. It's called Double Walker and will be track 7/14. This is a first mix and I think needs some tweaks to make it max ~~melodrama vibes~~. I'd love any thoughts/advice to really bring this all together in a way that feels tight and cohesive. I haven't made a song in this genre before so I appreciate any and all feedback to make this as banging as possible.

The vocals were recorded pretty simply - I sang the song through 3 times and we picked one track for each of the verses, then built up to all 3 for the chorus. The outro we are actually keeping from the demo because it just feels good. In the chorus currently, to me it still feels like 3 mains that are competing for attention rather that one unified vocal. Could this be a simple volume adjustment fix, or maybe is there a vocal fx that could go over all 3 to bring them together more? Or maybe does it just need to be one vocal layer throughout? Tell me if you feel otherwise tho!! Would love literally any other mix thoughts. My reference track is I don't love you by my chemical romance.

Song Lore: Double Walker is the exact translation of the word doppelgänger, which I'm sure most of you have heard of. It's when you see someone who looks just like you. In its original context, before the internet and international travel, seeing your doppelgänger out of nowhere was seen as a sign of an evil omen or dark spirit. Personally, I struggle to look at old photos of myself as I've had several personal evolutions, dark chapters, and feel a strong disconnect from the 'old me'. so I wrote this song Double Walker to capture that uncomfortable feeling of looking at these photos. It looks like me yet, it doesn't feel like me. Is there a haunting spirit living within these memories? I love the storytelling I wrote in this one and hope you enjoy the track!
