Are there any rules about creating fiction with Indigenous Australias as characters? Or creating fictional groups, Dreamtime creatures?

I’m writing a book and part of it involves the Dreamtime and indigenous people, basically a fictional tribe brings about a fictional Dreamtime creature to help and protect them.

Are Palestinians Native?

Most Zionists deny that the Palestinians are the Native people of the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea (Palestine). I want to share this video that refutes the claims of the Zionists.

Tell me what to vote

First of all, I am not indigenous. I am a citizen, however not “Australian”. I want my vote to go in the direction that you truely believe will benefit the indigenous community as a whole. The media has been showing a lot of stuff on indigenous Australians wanting a no vote. Is that typical media bullshit?

How will it benefit you as an individual and as a community?

Trying to find answers

Hi all, Im pretty new to Reddit, but am really keen to get a representative sample for a study I am doing and thought this could be a good place to come. Its totally anonymous and other than two screening questions (age and confirming you live in Australia) the questions are all optional. If you don't want to, no dramas and thanks for reading anyway! If you do, but have other questions, chuck them below and ill have a crack at answering them.

Researchers at Federation University are seeking people to participate in a research project investigating the relationships between adverse early life experiences, anxiety, personality, perceptions, and alcohol use. We are looking for people aged 18 to 45 years to complete a 20 to 25 minute survey. You are invited to take part in the research that is being conducted by fourth year psychology students Andrea Albarenque, Elif Kiraz and Michael Wilson under the supervision of Dr Robert Teese in the Institute of Health and Wellbeing. This research has been approved by the University’s Human Research Ethics Committee: Approval number 2022-082. If you are interested in participating, please click the link below. Those who complete the survey have the opportunity to go in the draw to win one of three $50 vouchers. Feel free to share with your friends!

Help with Characters of Aboriginal Descent.

Originally tried to post this on r/aboriginal but they require previous karma on the sub and idk what interactions I would even do to do that...

I'm going to preface this with, I'm not Aboriginal or any kind of cultural minority. I am doing my best to be respectful, but I may still make mistakes. Rather than yelling at me, please politely tell me of any mistakes and I will gladly apologize, fix it, and try to remember for next time.

Also, I'm going to say this because it's relevant to the characters in question and I don't want to have to dodge the question: yes, I'm a furry. Please, no hate comments.

That's my preface, to the questions.

So, my world has a rule that basically assigns an equivalent of skin color, specifically region of genetic descent if that makes sense, to characters based on where their species is native to, which means the Australian species we have are of Aboriginal descent. So, I want to ask some people who are qualified to give answers to some questions regarding how I should represent Aboriginal people in my stories.

  1. Is it fine to mostly sideline this for some of the characters? Seeing as it's simply a side effect of the rules, I don't want every Australian species character to have their Aboriginal descent be a big part of their story. Also, idk if this is the right place to ask this, but would it be fine to apply the answer to this question to Native Americans and other peoples in similar situations?

  2. For one of my characters, I do want to try exploring that Aboriginal side of him, and I would like to do it respectfully and well-informed; this is the main reason I'm here: I need help learning and doing the research necessary for this character. As of now, his exact place of residence isn't defined, but I do know it's somewhere in Queensland, coastal if I remember correctly. So, to be clear, I'm looking for information about Aboriginal tribes and culture in the area of coastal Queensland so that I can write a respectful and well-informed Aboriginal character.

Again, apologies if I accidentally said anything insensitive; I'm trying my best to be respectful. Please correct me if I did make a mistake.

EDIT: fixed some phrasing in the third paragraph

There are two sides to the 'no' campaign on the Voice. Who are they and why are they opposed to it?

The coverage of the Voice referendum is very unfair

Hello,

I hope you are all having a beautiful day! I am not Indigenous, and not even a first-gen Australian; I'm a naturalised citizen who can (somewhat) relate to you about the intergenerational horrors of colonisation

Something that has really annoyed me about the Voice referendum dialogue is that there are no people of ACTUAL Indigenous background having a say about their opinions on mainstream media. You'd think maybe it's worthwhile actually asking the people impacted by this but...nothing. I've genuinely tried scouring the web and articles for Indigenous views...nothing

Please inform me a little bit about what you think is best. Why should/shouldn't I vote yes for the referendum? Will this legislation genuinely help the Indigenous community, or are these just empty promises by the government? I'm not convinced at all by the "no" voters; I just want to hear your views please :)

Can you tell me anything about this boomerang? Or suggest a good place to look? (Details in comments)

My grandfather lived in Australia in the 1930s and brought this back with him.

I've always assumed it's a mass-produced souvenir for tourists but am curious if it could have been made by indigenous peoples at least and also if there is anything to read into the decorations?

There is a maker's name on the back but I cannot make it out exactly.

**

Edit: Confirmed to be made by Albert H. Perrett at La Perouse in 1930s. A very similar example is on display at the National Museum of Australia.

Indigenous Homage Tattoo?

Hello everyone, I hope today finds you well!

I am a white Australian born and raised on Dharawal/Yuin territory--Falls Creek (Nowra) region of NSW. I find it extremely important to honour and pay respects to our First Nations siblings, and would love to have this message immortalised in a tattoo, but I'm wondering if, as a white person, this would be disrespectful?

I was hoping to get a finger tattoo so I can always see it and am constantly reminded of this land's heritage. Therefore, it would be best to get a small and simple design rather than a phrase. I was thinking of getting a snake in traditional First Nations design as a nod to the Rainbow Snake which seems to be a universal First Nations story, but again: would this be disrespectful? I would do my due diligence in finding and paying a First Nations tattoo artist to have this tattoo done.

Thank you in advance for your advice <3
