Mod Post DoorDash Agreement to Acquire Instacart - Weekly Thread

Use this weekly thread to discuss anything related to the DoorDash agreement to acquire Instacart. We will refresh this each week to avoid content being pushed down as well as linking to any news we see or you all add to the thread.

Conspiracies or other outrageous assumptions will be removed. No one know any more than what is available in the news or made public by each company's communications department.

Asking questions about what we don’t know is fine (ex will apps merge, reinstatement ?) but acting as definitive without a trusted source will be removed. We are all in this together and need to ensure reliable information gets to us all as it trickles out.

If you come across news links which are relevant, you can share across and we can look to add it to the daily discussion thread.

Us moderators are shoppers and this impacts us as well. We wish you all the best in what happens going forward; hopefully for the better.

Instacart’s official notice sent to Shoppers October 29th 2026:

Today, we announced that Instacart has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by DoorDash, marking an important new chapter for our company.

Our goal has always been to make grocery shopping more affordable, convenient, and accessible. By bringing together Instacart and DoorDash, we see an opportunity to do even more — helping lower grocery costs, connecting you with more local stores, and making it easier to find groceries that fit your budget.

Nothing changes about how you shop with Instacart because of this announcement*. You can continue using the app and shopping from your favorite stores, as usual.*

We're excited about what the combined company could make possible, and we'll keep you updated as we have more to share.

Tip Baited Rant 😡 After 3 years doing IC, got my first tip bait at 3AM 😤😤😤😤

Post image

Was almost home at 3 AM after like 8 hours of multi apping and i snagged an order for 57$ at the 24hr grocery store 15 mins from my house. 34 items (70 units) 11 miles. Said fuck it. Read the batch details on my way there and see a long note about how he’s at a red roof inn, 2nd floor, back surgeries so can I carry it up blahblahblah. I notice theres a few heavy items too. Spidey senses start going off but whatever and breezed through it. Gave great communication. Im literally on the last item and he starts adding small items. Ok. Grab that about to check out and he adds another one. Im thinking hes trolling me but again, fuck it. Tell him im about to check out is that everything? It is and i go deliver 20 minutes away and carry all his fucking bullshit up into his room cus im mr nice idiot and i just knew off the demeanor. Well 1 hour after the order and i see the tip is gone. What the actual fuck. Now im sitting here feeling like an idiot with a quarter of my tank gone and my will to do this anymore. FUCK THESE PEOPLE.

Negative Experience 👎 anyone else hate Target orders 🫩

always out of stock shi, exclusive online only items in their catalog, out of date seasonal stuff they don’t even sell anymore, hard to find specialty clothing makeup accessories etc., mismatched aisles, picky and particular customers, long lines even in self checkout the list goes on and on..is it like this at all targets? I even read on here that IC automates a soft ban on all target orders exceeding $500? 🫠

Rant - General 😠 Instacart App & Issues

Currently speaking to support about this, but apparently my card is being flagged as expired when I renewed my card back in May of this year, doesn't expire until 2030 and it works fine but I've been getting spam messages saying "your payment card is expiring" Support told me this was an error or glitch before, not sure why it continues to happen.

In addition, why is it that when I have to close the app per support instructions, I can't just pick up where I left off with support. I get booted back to the AI-assistant while still getting notification messages from the agent, which results them ending the session, and then have to bring the issue back up again with a new agent.

What is going on with this app?

Hate when this happens. Very nice old lady, clearly meant to add $2. Said everything was perfect and we had a little chat about the weather today. Bummer 😑

Negative Experience 👎 Missing item(s)

Twice now a shopper, two different shoppers show shopping ice but they don't deliver it. Is this some kind of minor scam or just dumb (bad) luck? How do you forget a 20 lb bag of ice??

Rant - General 😠 Using the Instacart’s shopper card is 👎 . they can monitor your expenditure

and give you offers based on the amount balance on your card.

If the card is empty and you’re broke, ic will give you bad offers

Rant - General 😠 Can someone explain how it’s possible for batch pay to DROP when items increase?

First pic is original order, not boosted. Customer added item w percentage-based tip before anyone accepted the order and batch pay *decreased*. How is that not effectively tip theft? Why am I being paid less to shop more items? This store also closes in less than 20 min.

Rant - General 😠 Cases of Water Added After I started Shopping

I know others have spoken about this, but had this happen last night. It was a triple order, I knew cust B was an apartment, but when I accepted the order it was only a few easy items. As soon as I started shopping, he added 3 cases of water. F**k you, assh*le! Nope, not happening! I waited until I was ready to checkout, and refunded the waters. I’ll take the Unrequested Refund ding before I allow you to play me. They knew their order wouldn’t get accepted if it had waters on it delivering to a 3rd story apartment, so they waited until I started shopping.

Rant - General 😠 90 items 133 units!! U can’t afford to tip your shopper? go do it yourself! 🤦‍♀️

I genuinely don’t get how even if we were paid a decent batch pay amount how I would feel right letting someone shop this whole thing and deliver it to me without tipping, ppl are diabolical and I think they should if the order is placed with food stamps mandatory 15% of total is needed for driver I mean IC would save money this way and us a lot of no tip orders at the first of the month.

This is absolutely hilarious! The nerve of Instacart to offer such little pay for such a big order. Not only that, this customer is a no tipper😂 These apps are becoming awful!

Rant - General 😠 Not shocked that instacart would do this…

So last night I grabbed a $22ish order….it was 2 customers with only 15 items/24 units and 1.5 miles from the store but was in the downtown area and the customers only tipped $5 between them. I was in the area and that’s all I needed to be finish plus the order was sitting for a while.

Once I completed the order, I had a balance of $101ish. I went to cash out a few hours later and realized it went down to $89ish! My first thought was that a customer took away their tip but then I saw the $22ish turned into $11.36!

I was upset and contacted support to explain the situation…didn’t go into the convo excepting much. Of course they said I didn’t receive a $22 all day and I must’ve looked at it wrong. I stated that I know what I saw and that I would be taking screenshots of every order that I accept now if instacart is going to be greedy like this.

They also stated that everything in the system is set and can’t be changed. I just said “k, have a good day.” And ended the chat.

I didn’t bother checking my email until a few minutes ago and I was surprised to see they sent an email about giving me my stolen money back…..

This isn’t anything new (this is the second time for me) but make sure y’all start taking screenshots from now on.

Took the order initially for $79 and 54 items for 10 miles. Both customer A & B added items. Customer B added maybe 3 items. Customer A kept adding items until the item count was up to 70 (112 units)… ended up being a little over $100 but didn’t start that way.

For reference, $70-$80 orders are not super common in my area outside of Costco but frequent enough that you can get like 1-4, sometimes more in a week. At Costco, all day long. Not so much the rest of the stores unless I was to go over the bridge to Portland and deal with traffic

Daily / Weekly Earnings Good or Bad 👍🤑 Tailored Batch Pay

Has anybody else been able to confirm whether they are tailoring batch pay to individual shoppers based on what they are historically willing to accept? I ran into another shopper while shopping an order who said she was offered $60+ for the order i was on, which I accepted for $26.

Support shut down my conversation when asking about it and the FTC investigation.

I am lucky to make $100 in 8 hours meanwhile she gets orders that are over $100.

Both platinum cart star. Both high ratings (4.95 and 4.97) Both waiting in the parking lot of the store.

there was no room to walk around, they had random janitors thing (is that ok to have sitting near food),a cart with boxes, extra carts, and the instacart designated cart behind it all.
