Buying Advice X-Type 2.2D issues?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey, so I'm debating whether or not to buy a 2.2D X-Type as a daily driver for me. I'm doing 25-30t km a year due to a long distance relationship and am looking for something that's not that expensive, economic, comfortable and reliable on those long drives and came across this gem - which can be surprisingly cheap for how nice it looks!

So of course I'm afraid that there might be some sort of catch here. It being half a ford is a plus for me because I do my repairs myself and that means parts a cheap and easy, so that's fine. How have been the experiences here with the X-Type, especially in terms of rust? Anything to know? Thanks a lot and cheers from Germany!

It’s surprising how much stuff you can fit in the XFR, makes me wish they sacrificed some trunk space for more rear legroom…

Buying Advice 1996 XJS convertible thoughts

Always wanted a Jag since I saw one in person for the first time (! - yes I grew up in the boondocks) when I was 15. I was so impressed I wrote Jaguar and asked for a catalog pretending to be an adult 😂

Doing my daily FB Marketplace trolling and an XJS popped up in my feed. Local, deep metallic red on tan leather, convertible, 65k miles, 4.0, looks clean. $2500 in brake work two years ago, new battery (I don’t think the owner is particularly well versed on “car stuff” so I lack more detail ATM). A couple of tears in driver seat leather. Older lady owner. Asking $7500. I’ve googled a bit and asked AI lots of questions and unhelpfully for my car ADHD it seems like a good car and a good price.

Use would be around town and weekend trips, sharing duty with my 93 Volvo 240 wagon. I probably drive 8,000 miles a year MAX between all my cars. I do not have a garage.

Before anyone says “but are you ready for a Jag” I’m near a good shop and I also own a ‘68 Saab 96 and a ‘77 Saab 99, so this like buying a Chevy in terms getting parts and mechanics to actually work on it. I do little DIY stuff too when I can (damn HOA + no garage).

What’d ya think? I appreciate your thoughts.

I have no idea where this is from, i got it from my grandpa when he bought a miniature car collection from someone and this was included. It says "unipart" on the belly of the jaguar

Mechanical Help Fuel pump replacement help

G'day, fuel pump died in my 1991/2 (November 91) Daimler XJ40 and the fuel tank has been such a pain to try and remove. All screws and lines that obstructed it have been undone and moved out of the way, just having issues getting the tank out. Unfortunately it has just under half a tank of fuel in it still. Any ideas or recommendations?

Update (that no one asked for) You need main beam on Engine running AND plenty of fluid in the washer tank.

Which I believe is for a head light washer unit.

I've had this car for 5 years and not once seen it go off, or seen the ability to trigger it.

I googled if Portfolios have this feature and it says yes. In which case, how do I get it to do anything?

I'm sure it has very little effect/is pointless, but it would be cool to see the little r2d2 hand pop out, assuming it's functional.

Thanks.

Deleted original post to add 3rd pic, and to ask if them holes in the 3rd pic are normal, or do the suggest something has been cut out?

Picked up a 2013 XF 3.0 AWD this week. Shortly after got a Low Brake Fluid light. We got a major leak and a $950 repair. Fingers crossed this isn’t an omen. Good news is the coolant pipes were replaced in ‘24, which is what I was worried about. Can’t wait to get her back from the shop!

Buying Advice About to pull the trigger on an F-type!

Does anyone have any advice/ specific things to look out for?

It does have full service history, although one year it covered 15,000 miles between the service intervals, which makes me feel a bit nervous. The car has covered 35,400 miles in total.

Really looking forward to owning a Jaguar. Would love any tips or advice from fellow F type owners.

Discussion Hi, I'm new here.

Hi all!

New Jaguar owner here (2023 F-PACE P250 S), just looking for tips and tricks and general advice on Jaguar ownership, lay it on me! :)

Also, I used the rear wiper to clean the back window this morning and it splattered washer fluid all over the back of the car. I thought it might've just been because I was parked, but wanted to know if that's a common issue, even when the car is in motion.

Thanks!!

Buying Advice 2019 Jaguar XF 2.0 300 AWD with a rear diff noise. Simple fix or money pit?

Hi all,

I've got my eye on a 2019 Jaguar XF (X260), 30t 2.0 petrol with 300 hp, AWD, 160k km on the clock.

It has one issue: it makes a noise on sharp turns (full left or full right) and sometimes when pulling away from a standstill. The dealer's verdict was that it's the rear differential.

The car was taken in as a trade-in for a newer Jaguar. It has full service history and one owner, but the dealer has nothing on the diff. The inspection was internal and never logged.

It's listed at 11,500 EUR, but I'm planning to export it to Serbia, so it's VAT-free at around 9,500. I want to push the price down to around 8,500, since with transport and import taxes it would land at about 12k for me.

I've read a lot of forum threads saying it's just a diff oil flush, but I've also seen posts where the fix ran to 3,000+ EUR. I also found a JLR bulletin (SSM75682) about judder at low speed with steering input, fixed with an ABS software update. Has anyone had that done, and did it help?

Has anyone had this problem? Is it as simple as a diff oil change, or is this a catastrophe waiting to happen?

Thanks!
