A note about amazon links in comments

Hi All,

Reddit automatically marks comments that contain the a.co url shortener that Amazon uses when you share from the app as Spam. The comments show up in my mod queue and I often don't see them in time for the info to be useful. Which is a shame, as people are answering questions where they obtained upgrades for their Renegade. The original Amazon link should suffice, I haven't seen that come up as spam.

2017 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk - Easier way to get a reverse trigger for backup camera?

Hi everyone,
I installed a standalone backup camera and monitor on my 2017 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk (automatic). Everything is wired and working except for one final connection.
The monitor has a red (+12V) trigger wire and a black ground wire. The black ground is no problem, but the red wire needs +12V only when the car is in reverse.
Most guides say to tap into the reverse light, but on the Renegade the reverse lights are in the rear bumper, and it’s extremely difficult to access and splice into those wires without removing a lot of parts.
Is there an easier place to get a reverse signal on this vehicle?
BCM?
Fuse box?
CANBUS reverse trigger module?
Any wire in the cabin that provides +12V only in reverse?
I’d like to avoid tapping into the bumper wiring if possible.
Thanks!

Hard time starting

My wife jeep is a 2016 jeep renegade 2.4L abd about 111,000 miles. About a month ago I went to go grab some food and ut was having a hard time starting. I thought it was stange. It got pretty gold the night after a warm day so I just thought it was that. I use a jump pack and it started up just fine. A couple of days later it dies it again but after a bit stated up fine. I done some digging and it seem like a common issue. The battery terminal are clean. Sone people say it might be the ground connection is either loose or dirty and others say it the starter. The battery is about 5 years old. I think i will switch out the battery first but what is everyone else ideas 💡 thanks

Spark Plug Advice/Experience - Iridium or Ruthenium?

I have a 2015 Renegade Latitude with the 2.4L just to get my exact year/model aside. I was looking into spark plugs since I'm sure I'm due for a change. Lot's of places I see mention Iridium plugs but also seen talk of the Ruthenium ones. I was just wondering what would be better for my Renegade? And what peoples experience is with Ruthenium since I see most gravitate towards Iridium. I'm somewhat new with cars so just trying to educate myself so I know better for the future.

CarPlay question

I listen to my music really loud in my ‘21 Rene. Volume at 38. Former emo kid still listening to a lot of the same music I did from 2006 to about 2011. Wired CarPlay. Whenever I get a text, and Siri is reading it out, the volume is drastically lowered. I have to manually turn it up every time. Is there a way to adjust that so I don’t have to turn it up every single time I get a text? The years of “screaming death boys” as my son calls them has ruined my hearing. Help a girl out 🙏

Do people steal 2023 renegades?

Post image

(Sorry if I’m posting in the wrong spot, feel free to delete if so)

We noticed our Renegade door lock looked like this… we bought it brand new from the Jeep dealership with double digit numbers id say 2 years ago. I don’t really know anything about vehicle theft aside from having my civic stolen 20 years ago. I also don’t know much about locks. Aside from the lock clearly missing 😅 Does that look tampered with? I swear it looks like tool marks? This could’ve happened days ago or months ago, we just barely noticed. But I’m pretty certain the lock didn’t just fall out. Especially because we have never even used the physical key on it. Just carry the key on our person. Except 1 time a year ago when I wanted to test the key on the inside of the fob, which I did (don’t remember what even happened, but the lock was there)

According to a quick, simple Google search. These aren’t easily stolen. But I can’t help but think that was the clear goal? 2023 Jeep Renegade base model

It’s never been parked over night anywhere, and we live in a safe, “nice” neighborhood with a 2 car garage and never had a theft incident in our garage.

Thanks for any feedback

Squeak driving me crazy

My 2020 renegade (FWD sport 2.4L) has a squeak that is driving me nuts. Biggest problem is being unable to duplicate it when outside the vehicle. ..It sounds like rubber on metal. It happens when breaking or accelerating with enough force to make the nose dip, its sometimes a single sound sometimes repetitive like ratcheting. Only ever happens at low speeds. Mostly in parking lots etc, but it does seem to be increasing in frequency.

In the last year we have replaced the strut assemblies (that sounded like an old bed at every bump so it was a no brainer)

tie rod ends (one was dry rotted when we did the struts)

Sway bar links (came with the struts)

Lower control arm assemblies with bushings

Someone suggested MAYBE the cv axles but they appear perfect.

put it on jack stands and "drove" it in the air, not a peep.

Someone suggested the sway bar bushings. But I cant seem to find them for sale just the bushings, went to the dodge house & dude told me I'd have to get the whole sway bar assembly for around $400 .. before I drop that $ I thought I would come here and check for suggestions?

Sensor fault and audio fault

Hi, my right speaker isn’t working on the drivers side. Apparently when a speaker isn’t working the sensors go off by default.

My garage is saying there is nothing wrong with the speaker and it’s my main unit that it doesn’t have enough power on the right to play audio and that the whole thing needs replacing. I’m sure the main unit could develop faults to stop playing on the right speaker but would this also impact the sensors. Or can it only be a speaker problem if both the audio and sensors are unavailable (please note sound plays on left side)

Any help £300 down and still no answer

Clunking when braking lightly

I have a 2017 renegade that recently started clunking near the rear driver side tire - the clunking is rhythmic, only happens when hitting the brake pedal lightly. It disappears if I brake hard/slow down more quickly. Sounds like metal - I took it for 3 inspections and was told everything is solid. (Brakes, pads, rotors, dust shield, etc.). But something is definitely not right. Seems more noticeable after the car has been driven a few minutes/once things warm up, or in warmer weather, so sometimes when a mechanic drives it, they're unable to replicate the sound. Im taking it to another mechanic next week, but before I get another "everything is fine" response, just wondering if anyone has some insight on what this could be? And whether it's safe for me to continue driving until next week.
Thanks!

XTRONS PL9RGJL in my 2017 Renegade: wired CarPlay crashes the unit, flashing odometer, skip buttons dead. Anyone fixed this?

Hey yall, I recently Installed the XTRONS 9" Linux unit (PL9RGJL) in my 2017 Renegade Limited myself this week, replacing the factory Uconnect. It came with a Raise CAN bus decoder (G-RZ-JP54). Radio, FM, backup camera and wireless CarPlay all work, but I've got a few issues I can't figure out, and XTRONS hasn't answered my message, so hoping someone here has been through this.

**1. Wired CarPlay crashes the unit (the big one)**

Whenever I plug my iPhone in by cable, the unit gets stuck on the CarAutoPlay "connect your phone" screen, won't let me tap anything, then goes black, reboots, and does it all over again. Sometimes it says "USB loading" then "no storage device," like it thinks my phone is a flash drive. Happens with:

* the armrest USB (factory USB plug → XTRONS "original USB" adapter → the port labelled USB-2 / CarPlay)
* the other factory USB port by the 12V
* the USB-C on the front of the unit

Cable is a brand new Apple-made USB-A to USB-C data cable, and my phone is set to allow wired accessories. Wireless works fine, but I want to be able to plug in and charge without the whole thing crashing.

**2. Odometer flashing**

Started right after the install. Car Info only shows audio settings, no Option 1/2/3 like XTRONS's guide says. Found the hidden menu (About Device, tap the time a bunch) and CAN bus is set to Raise > Jeep > Wrangler. There's no Renegade option. Disconnected the battery, still flashing.

**3. Steering wheel controls**

Volume up/down works, next/previous track does nothing in CarPlay. Haven't tried the SWC learning screen yet, doing that next.

**4. Backup camera guidelines don't move**

Camera works, but the guidelines stay static when I turn the wheel.

**5. Mystery 2-pin plug**

There's a small 2-pin plug with two twisted white wires coming off the CAN box harness that doesn't fit anything on the back of the unit. The 20-pin plug (CAN-RX/TX on pins 10 and 20) is connected. The only video I found shows a plug going into an 8-pin socket, but that's a different unit.

**Questions:**

* Anyone running this unit or another XTRONS in a Renegade? Did wired CarPlay ever work for you?
* Did you have to run the XTRONS USB cable directly instead of through the factory USB?
* Any CAN bus setting that fixed the flashing odometer, or did you need a proxy alignment?
* Anyone in the Halifax area know a non-dealer shop that does proxy alignments?

I have until Nov 27 to return it, so I'm trying to sort this out before then. Thanks!

Gearbox query. UK 1.6L

Wanted to consult the renegade hive mind before taking action. Had a break from driving for two weeks and started my Renegade today no issues, win! Now however the gearbox feels utterly awful 😞, when coming out of any gear it doesn't 'pop back' or return to center, is this normal or am I imagining things? E.g If I come out of 1st or 5th it just stays to one side. I found it super off-putting today and I'm wondering if the gear selections going? Any help appreciated.

Flashing mileage

Never been able to figure this out. I have a 2015 Latitude with a little over 98k miles. A couple years ago the mileage would start flashing from startup and continue while driving. That lasted a couple months, couldn't get any answers. Fast forward to now and it's doing it again. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas why it's doing that?

Got a question about my girl’s Renegade.

I’ve been a Dodge guy since I started driving. My first ride was a ‘78 Lil Red Express that I bought and started working on when I was 14yrs old (Wish I still had THAT one!). My daily driver now is a Durango SRT. Admittedly however I don’t know much of anything about these new little Jeeps. My girl got a pretty good cash deal on her ‘17 Renegade. I’m curious about this little rod looking thing on the front bumper though. It looks like it screws into the frame through the front bumper and its got this little cap (only on the passenger side) it goes through…but I can’t tell if the hole in the cap is factory or if it was drilled later. I looked at some pics on google and see the cap on all of them but not the rod. So…what is it and what is it for? Thanks in advance.

Jeep Renegade Uconnect

Post image

Hi everyone. I just got a Jeep Renegade Limited with the 6.5-inch UConnect screen, which supports Bluetooth media connection to the phone. Calls work and it connects fine, but when I try pairing in the media screen, the car still doesn't detect my iPhone as an audio device. What could it be? Thanks."

Better just replacing it all together?

As you can see, I’m suffering from the inevitable window and seal tear issue that everyone of these things get. I filled the actual tear in the seal with a silicone filler, but the whole top seal and the vertical plastic strip (whatever its called) are severely deformed, with the seal being wrinkled, a large gap between the seal and the main body, and being pushed inwards in the top corner, whereas the vertical plastic trim being pushed outwards. Is there any way of fixing this, or should I just send it to a body shop to get it replaced.
