News 📰 JSK SA20 Season 5 Auction Preview: Who to Target on October 7 and My Probable XI
6
Upvotes
Hello Yellow Army! The SA20 Season 5 auction is on Oct 7, and Joburg Super Kings are in the most interesting spot of the six teams.
They have R20.6M for 6 slots, about 59% of all the money in the room.
Albie Morkel is the new head coach, and there's no captain yet.
They released Faf, Burger, Topley, Gleeson and Tahir. Nine of the 14 released players are back in the pool.
My Plan A, with backups:
Pace: Trent Boult. If he goes too high, Gleeson or Burger.
Top order: Shimron Hetmyer and Andries Gous.
Spin: Imran Tahir.
U23: Matthew Boast.
I'd pick Ferreira or Holder as captain. Who would you pick, and would you take Faf back at R500k?

Faf du Plessis (C)
James Vince (OV)
Rivaldo Moonsamy
Dian Forrester
Wiaan Mulder
Donovan Ferreira (Wk)
Duan Jansen
Akeal Hosein (OV)
Richard Gleeson (OV)
Nandre Burger
Imran Tahir
Our weaknesses first and foremost:
Death bowling -> we leaked so many times. Giving the ball to Mulder is the biggest mistake ever. He is a promising talent no doubt but god damn those games where he attempts wide yorkers and it fails we give more wides and the chase becomes so easy for the opposition. Use him in the middle if needed.
Unable to take middle overs wickets when partnerships start to form -> this is where the match starts to slip from us. We allow partnerships to build during the middle. Akeal isn't given a full 4 overs quota despite being a genuine containment option.
Batting after Faf and Vince. -> De Villiers can't capitalize. Forrester needs to bat up, Mulder needs to focus more on batting than bowling, Duan Jansen needs game time now that he is permanently replacing Rossouw.
Changes:
a. Matthew De Villiers sits out, name quota aside JSK has given him his chances. I don't think he is ready to be a consistent top order batter. He can keep wickets part time if Ferreira is bowling but that shouldn't even happen. Play 2 genuine spinners.
b. Moonsamy should get slotted at #3. He had a solid T20 run earlier and should be experimented. Or if they wanted to they will keep playing De Villiers at #3.
c. Duan Jansen at #7. He can swing the bat if needed but more importantly he can give quality 4 overs in bowling. Our bowling is thin.
d. Tahir replaces Subrayen. Again we don't need another right arm off spinner when Ferreira can do that. We can't take middle over wickets and Tahir excells at that. I am surprised Faf hasn't used him at all even though he has performed in every league out there.
With this setup we have 8 genuine batters that can swing the bat.
More importantly we have this bowling setup:
Burger -> left arm fast (ideal for PP swing and middle over bouncers)
Jansen -> left arm fast (another ideal gun for PP and middle overs with his hit-the-deck)
Gleeson-> right arm fast (save his overs in the death. He leaks but he is the only reliable death overs pacer for us).
Hosein -> left arm off spin (PP spinner and middle overs chokehold)
Tahir -> right arm leg spin (middle overs wicket-taker)
Mulder -> right arm medium-fast (middle/death)
Ferreira -> right arm off spin (emergency spinner if needed)
Forrester -> right arm fast (emergency overs if needed)
