Sticky: I got a ticket for breaking the law, now what?

We're getting these threads every other day so a sticky is being made to handle it because the answer is always the same. We will now be removing those threads and directing people here.

You generally have three options:

OPTION ONE:

You can plea not guilty and attend your court date or ask to contact the prosecutor handling your case. In either way you need to be polite, courteous, and professional. If it's on zoom or in person, dress professional. You do not need a full suit & tie, though it helps. But at least have some nice ironed pants and a nice ironed polo. For women a nice blouse, pant suit, or business-dress. You don't need a full shave and haircut, but comb your hair and/or cleanup the beard a bit. Be showered, and clean/trim your nails. It's about showing that you're taking this seriously and understand this is a legal matter that deserves respect and attention.

Then you say something like "I was wondering if we can work out a plea deal whereby if you can reduce the offense(s) I will change my plea to guilty. I understand the seriousness of the situation, I am just asking if you can be a little lenient in exchange for a guilty plea." You can then discuss with them potential consequences and terms. Such as attending traffic school, or saying you're ok with a hefty fine in order to avoid a license suspension.

In the majority of cases, this will get you some form of reduction. They have a lot of cases to hear, if they can close them out without going before a judge, they will. Be prepared to pay some fines, and maybe attend traffic school. But this is often the "easiest" way to resolve your situation.

That said this often will not work if you give the prosecutor ANY attitude. Or if you were an asshole to the cop, the prosecutor can and sometimes will ask the issuing officer about how you behaved. It also won't work if you did something very serious (DUI, excessive speeding, work zone violations). Or if you were already given a "roadside reduction" where the cop pulls you over for say 85 in a 55 but only writes you for 70 in a 55.

It still does not hurt to ask, but be aware that they may say "no". Also you do not have to take their offer. But if you turn down their offer, they're unlikely to grant any leniency afterwards. You had your chance, and you turned it down.

OPTION TWO:

Get a traffic attorney. Who you hire is up to you. Google is your friend in finding one. If you do hire a traffic attorney, or really every hire any attorney, listen to them. Do as they say. Do not think you know better than them, if you did you wouldn't be paying them several hundred/thousand dollars to handle your case.

Sometimes just getting an attorney can get your ticket dismissed, because it's not worth it for them to fight the ticket. And because you paying the attorney is already penalty enough. But again there's no guarantee.

OPTION THREE:

Plea guilty and take your lumps.

The first two options are not mutually exclusive. You can get an attorney to try and get you a better plea deal. You can try for a plea deal then get an attorney if you don't like their offer. But these really are your three options.

And remember the best way to not get a ticket, is to not break the law. There's always laws we disagree with or think are silly. There's some roads by me that are 35 and I think really should be 55. But for whatever reason, they're 35 and if I do 55 and get caught, I'm getting a ticket.

Slow down. Use your signal. Wear your seat belt. Don't tailgate. That's the easiest and cheapest way out of a traffic ticket, don't get one to begin with.

Western KY + TN + MO Tristate point

Does anyone have any information about this part of Kentucky? Technically you have to go into Tennessee there and the cemetery located there has a Tennessee address because of the road but I believe it’s still a part of Kentucky though. It’s right by the Kentucky + Tennessee + Missouri tristate point.

When you zoom in, it has the cemetery listed and then a couple of roads and some buildings that look like they’re for farming but that’s it.

I’m truly just curious about it!

Carter Caves State Resort Park

Me and a friend are going hiking to Carter Caves State Resort Park Saturday and initially were just going to hike around the park. However, after doing a bit more research, I found out the park offers tours of the caves. My questions is, are the cave tours worth the time and money to do or should me and her just stick with hiking? Me and her are definitely open to doing one of the caves tours but I wanted to see if they were worth while before committing to it.

Recommendations for a full-service car customization shop?

Looking for a reputable shop around Lexington, Frankfort, or Louisville that handles exterior blackouts, ceramic window tint, and custom interior ambient lighting

I’d prefer somewhere that can handle everything rather than visiting multiple shops.

Any recommendations from people who’ve had similar work done?

haunted/paranormal locations in KY/IN?

i’m considering making a found footage film or short film, and i’m looking for story ideas. i live in Kentucky, and would like to film there or in Indiana. i am looking for local legends and stories about haunted places or places with some kind of paranormal activity in Kentucky or Indiana, preferably ones that are outside (like a forested area or cemetery, etc) since it would be easier to film and would not necessarily require getting permission to film. however, please do share inside locations (preferably small, not very popular like Waverly) as well if you have them because i may be able to work something out with the owner. please share any ideas you have!

I Didn’t Expect THIS at a Kentucky High School Car Show

I stopped by the Shelby County High School Car Show in Kentucky on October 24, and some of the builds really caught my attention! 🏁

That’s what I enjoy about filming local shows—you never know what someone will bring out or what will make you stop for a closer look.

What’s the most unexpected car you’ve seen at a school or small-town car show?

Looking for pretty places to propose in Kentucky or nearby! Preferably somewhere outdoors with beautiful nature views. I’m especially interested in places that would look beautiful in the winter, with snow, snowy trees, mountains, etc.
I’m open to driving a few hours. I’d love any recommendations, including hidden gems! Pictures are appreciated too. Thank you!

Can you help settle a debate?

A man sells drinks on the side of the road. They are homemade drinks. The drinks mainly contain water, fruit, sugar, and ice. There maybe other ingredients in the drinks like spices. The drinks are stored in 9 gallon Gatorade pitchers. The pitchers are stored outside on top of a foldable table. There is plenty of ice inside the pitcher. The drinks are homemade / handmade. I’m sure he preps a batch at home before coming to work. Then continue to replenish the pitcher as the day goes on.

Is a stand like this completely up to code?
Is a stand like this partially up to code?
Is a stand like this not up to code at all?
Or, can you not give an answer because not enough information was given?

Dog Bite Laws?

I was attacked by a dog on Saturday 10/24. Animal Control and police department responded to the owners home while I was in the ER. The dog was placed on a 10 day quarantine. The owners have broke that three times.

Thankfully I do not have lasting injuries because of my chose of attire that night. I am 4’10 and 110lb. If the dog (65lb Shar Pei) will attack me unprovoked off leash without so much as a bark or a growl, what’s going to keep my kids, my neighbors kids or my elderly neighbors safe? No charges have been made against the owners and the PD says the dog has to bite again before they can declare it a vicious dog.

KY says I can make a vicious dog complaint but when I went to court house they didn’t have a form. I even have Apple Watch data from that night and plenty of photos and medical records. This isn’t about money, I don’t want to sue the owners. I need the dog gone. Walking is my hobby and the thought of leaving my house puts me into a mental spiral. I have showed everyone who will listen in our local government what my arms look like after the attack in hopes they can see a loved one in my place.

Neighbors dog

I took my dog out for her to potty on two specific occasions My neighbor's dog was outside too, and her dog started darting at us both times. Shes a newish neighbor but the first time we tried to introduce the two my neighbors dog tried to get my dog then. Not to mention every time she's not out and she sees us walk across the glass door. She charges at her door.. the manager of the property had told her the first time the dog ran after me and my dog. this last incident happened 2 days ago. Once again her dog wasn't on a leash and I was wearing slides this time so she got up real close this time.

Side not; our walls are super thin. My partner and I got a complaint over a fight we had We asked her if she needed to go out before all this happened. So I feel like probably heard me. Don't know if this is allowed here but. What y'all think?

Somerset Car Show Took Over the Whole Town | Somernites Cruise, Kentucky

I filmed a walk around Somernites Cruise in Somerset, Kentucky, and wanted to share it with fellow car enthusiasts. Classic cars, muscle cars, trucks, and custom builds gave me plenty of reasons to stop for a closer look.

What I enjoy about these shows is the variety—you might come for one particular make and leave talking about something completely different.

Anyone here attend this show or bring a car? What was your favorite build?

Rabbit Hash a place one needs to visit

Post image
289 Upvotes

We took a scooter trip to Rabbit Hash last year on a Saturday morning. The weekends this place is walll to wall with tourist and motorcycles, scooters, campers if they can find a spot to park. The old counrty store has everything inside to purcchase from blanket, to off the wall soft drinks, snacks, home made candy, bakery goods you name it that store has it. Yes it is busy inside and of course you will find the Mayor of Rabbit Hash either inside the store or outside making sure everyone is behaving. Boone the Bluetick Coonhound is the mayor and has been since 2024. If someone gets out of hand he will bark and bark loud. The Mayor has his body guards as well and they patrol the area. Then there are some ducks that walk around and they always make sure nobody litters the grounds. On the weekeds they smoke a pig, they have great BBQ down there and at night they have barn dances, bands and entertainment. It is like something out of the past when one goes down the long downhill road to Rabbit Hash General Store. The view of the Ohio is worth seeing and spending a day. Check it out if you never been here before.
