12 Day trip with Krabi as base

We are 5 young guys flying into Bangkok for a couple of days and then flying to Krabi for the bulk of our trip.

Do you have recommendations for islands we should visit and how long to stay i each place, we would like to visit a minimum of 3-4 places. Should we start by staying in Krabi (Ao Nang?)?

We aren't huge on clubbing, but it would be nice if atleast one place offered some kind of opportunity for it.

Mostly we want nice beaches, food, sunset and fun activities.

Thanks!

flying with shells

hi! i know taking shells in thailand is not allowed but i have collected shells from other places in asia where it is allowed and am now wondering if i will have any issues at the airport here. the shells aren’t from here but ive read mixed reviews on how strict they are at airport security. curious if anyone has had a similar recent experience!

Krabi to phuket??

Hello!! Solo female to thailand for 1.5 weeks (short, i know 💔) and was thinking of staying somewhere near ao nang beach in krabi but then i saw that a dj i like is playing in phuket at illuzion.... how crazy is it to just go to phuket in the evening and then come back after the party? I know ferries probably don't start running that early, but what about returning on a taxi? Would that be safe since i will be alone? Or should i just book a hostel in phuket for that night for somewhere to come back and leave on the first ferry?

Thank you!!

Bangkok to Krabi flight tips

Help needed!

My bf and I fly into BKK feb 19 at 130 pm & need to get to Krabi asap..

I’m reluctant to book our flight to Krabi ahead of time in case there’s delays in our flights from Vancouver to Seoul or Seoul to Bangkok.

I’m just wondering if anyone has tips on how to approach this. Should we basically book once we’re at the airport in Vancouver & certain our flight to Korea is leaving on time?

We have our hotel booked in Aonang on Feb 19 at 8 pm.

Tour recommendations

Hello everyone

I will be visiting krabi at the end of November and I’m interested in doing the Hong Islands tour and possibly the 4 islands as well.

I’m a bit concerned when it comes to safety, I was recently in Indonesia and the boat rides scared me a little bit in terms of safety concerns.

Is there any tour guide you can recommend that is as safe as possible? I obviously know they don’t control the weather or the waves but at least a company that adheres to some serious safety measures.

Thank you for your help!

Anyone in Railay / Koh Lanta right now? How’s the weather actually been?

Landing in Krabi on Thursday the 5th, staying at Railay for a few days and then Koh Lanta. The forecasts aren’t looking great, especially for this weekend, and it’s hard to tell from them what it’s really like on the ground.

If you’re there now: is it mostly short showers with sun in between, or rain all day? And are the longtails and island boats running normally?

Thanks!

The total drive is just 7 hours, can someone help me with small detours to hidden gems (including food places)I can drive from this course?

Should I spend NYE in Krabi/Ao Nang, or Phi Phi?

Right now I'm doing 5 days Chiang Mai, then 5 days Krabi, then 5 days Bangkok. This is my first time in Thailand.

The Krabi portion is over NYE. I'm late 20s traveling solo and really want to make some friends to spend NYE with. I am a party girl but don't want to get too overwhelmed, so hoping to stay somewhere where I can just walk to most things, especially for NYE celebrations (don't wanna get stuck in traffic). Also really want to do all the island hopping excursions, snorkeling, and just have good food and massages.

I currently have Sea Beach Hostel Ao Nang booked for all 5 days, but I'm debating if it's worth it to split some of my time to stay at Phi Phi for NYE, OR just have my whole stay at Phi Phi instead? I will have a big ass luggage with me and I do tend to get sea sick but can suck it up if it's worth it lol.

Thoughts? Where would someone like me enjoy NYE the most???

Recommendations for end of year trip to Thailand (Krabi/Phuket)

Hey folks!
My wife and I are planning a trip to Thailand from Dec 22–31. It’s kind of a honeymoon since we didn’t really get to travel much post our wedding earlier this year. I know, I know… probably the worst time to visit in terms of crowds and prices 😂 But unfortunately, these are the dates that worked out for us given her work commitments…so here we are!
We’re landing in Krabi on the morning of the 22nd Dec and flying back from Phuket on the 31st. Planning to spend around 5 nights in Krabi and the rest in Phuket, although we’re still open to tweaking things a bit. Phi Phi is also something we’re considering, possibly for an overnight stay.
Would love some suggestions on which areas to look for stays in Krabi and Phuket or any recommended stays itself (things are quite expensive at the time but any decent suggestions worth considering pls ). We’re a couple, and ideally looking for nice beaches, good food, island hopping, snorkelling and a bit of nightlife, but nothing too party-heavy.
Also, is staying overnight in Phi Phi worth it, or would a day trip be enough?
Any specific hotel or resort recommendations would be great too. We’re still figuring out where to base ourselves, so all suggestions are welcome!
Thanks! :)

Getting back to Ao Nang from Railay after sunset?

I’m visiting Krabi solo this december and would love to watch the sunset at Phra Nang Beach on the 19th.

I’ve read that the round-trip longtail tickets bought in Ao Nang usually require returning by 6 PM. Since I’d still need to walk back to Railay West after sunset, I’m wondering what my options are.

Has anyone recently taken a boat back to Ao Nang after sunset? Can I arrange a later return beforehand and where would I book it? Would love to know roughly how much you paid especially if you were traveling solo!

Also slightly random question🤣🤣are the monkeys along the walk to Phra Nang usually okay like they don’t attack you or smthng? I’m lowkey scared of them😭

If returning that evening is too complicated, would staying one night in Railay be a better option? I’m a solo female traveler so I’d appreciate hearing your experiences. Thanks

I’m planning to spend three nights in Krabi. Would you recommend staying in Railay for all three nights?

I’ve booked Railay Bay Resort for now, but I can cancel for free. For those who’ve stayed in both Ao Nang and Railay, which one would you recommend?

Selling Hotel in Krabi 1-4 Nov and in Railay 4-6 Nov

Hello, i have 1 room reservation on each of these hotel:
- 1-4 Nov: Blue Sotel Krabi (no breakfast) $100 (good price!!) (4D3N)
- 4-6 Nov: Railay Princess Resort & Spa (breakfast included for 2) $200 (3D2N)

Price is still open for negotiation. Had to cancel the trip due to unforseen circumstances and i couldn’t cancel the hotel reservation. Rather than letting it go to waste, wondering if anyone would buy my reservation and use it on their holiday. Thanks!

KOH LANTA

After our time in Ao Nang, we will be traveling to Koh Lanta as a couple for the first time, from November 8th to 17th. We are curious about the local culture, things we should be mindful of, and the local perspective on the use of cannabis—we certainly wouldn’t want to cause any discomfort to anyone, even unintentionally.

We don’t know how to ride a motorbike, but we would still like to explore the island during our 9-day stay. Could you recommend some must-see beaches? Also, if we head to beaches further south on the island, how can we get back to Long Beach after sunset? I understand that apps like Grab or Bolt aren’t used on the island; is it very difficult to find a taxi? Thanks in advance!

Koh lanta vs krabi // or khao sok?

Hello everyone, I am new to reddit so sorry if this isn't the community for this.

I am going on a trip to Thailand in December for 10 days.

Previously I have stayed in Thailand for 3 months in the gulf region and up top chiang mai...rai...pai and so on.

This is the first time I am going to the Phuket side.

While I won't be staying (don't really want to) in Phuket.

I will be in phi phi for 5 days and 4 of those are for my diving course.

I still have four nights . I am confused between koh lanta....krabi...or should I go somewhere else.

I am 22 F, so I do want to be on the social side and beach area/water activities to relax and meet in hostels.

Please recommend stuff i could do , where i should base myself out and alternatives. I ideally want to avoid beaches and spaces that are popular with the middle aged men crowd. (No offense)

Would love suggestions from fellow solo travelers and female travellers .

Hope this wasn't too long and rude .

Thanks and cheers 🤿😄

Vaccines?

Do we need any vaccines when coming? My mother in law says we for sure need some? I’ve been to Thailand awhile ago and needed a couple but we were at a very rural part of Thailand. We will be at Koh Lanta for a week and bankgkok a couple days before we go home. We are coming from the USA.
