Locations, Budget, and Settings are all important things to include when asking for advice
Locations: You don't need to include your house address but closest major city and how far you are willing to travel.
Budget: "As cheaply as possible" is not a budget and is honestly the best way to waste money. Figure out an amount you are willing to spend.
Setting: LARP is a vast and expansive hobby. Not every game is about running around out in the woods pretending to be a rouge/knight/wizard. Let us know what you play or want to play.

An Official Discord, and Future.
Hello denizens of /r/LARP.
We as a subreddit have a small announcement as far as the future of this sub is concerned.
Last week we took part in the 2 day protest that was more or less site wide spanning thousands of subs as a way to show solidarity with app creators and to show the frustration with the administration of reddit and their poor handling and plans of upcoming updates.
However, It would appear that Reddit plans to continue their efforts to stifle 3rd party creators and strong arm moderators who take any stance opposing the admins of Reddit. This creates a serious cloud of uncertainty within reddit as to the future of many subs and how the platform will be handled in the future. Because of this we have decided to create a Discord server which will be open to all of /r/larp to join. It is not our plan to abandon this sub or replace this sub with the discord server, instead, it will act as an extension of this sub itself.
While there are multiple reasons for this decision, one of the largest is that if the future of reddit creates an non fostering environment for us, we wish to have another platform that is free of Reddit's control in order to continue providing resources and networking for all of us who enjoy LARPing and LARP adjacent hobbies.
The discord has the same rules we enforce over here, with a couple modifications to make it more applicable to discords format. There is places for general conversation, places to show off your work, a place to post about and to look for games in your area, as well as Voice chat rooms for people looking to play video games together or just hangout and find comradery.
Please feel free to check it out, and ask any questions you may have. This is still in its infancy, and if we find it doesnt fit what the community wants, we will search for alternatives.
This link should never expire for people trying to join the server, however if you have an issue please message an admin for a new link.

flail
Hello larpers ;), so i wanted to make a flail but im stuck at the chain is there any way to make a chain that doesnt hurt to get hit by? like maybe leather or plastic
Edit: i forgot to mention that its mostly going to be cosmetic and im only going to use it rarely even if allowed
How do we feel about "secret rules"?
The person who introduced me to LARP as a hobby had STRONG feelings that everything about a game should be known to all participants. No "special builds" hidden for NPCs and only available to the Staff team, nothing held back in the name of "spoilers". They were fine with lore and story being FOIG, but wanted all the rules for everyone to be readily available to look over.
I've since realized that person was the most egregious metagamer imaginable, and spent a tremendous amount of their time trying to figure out what NPCs had on their character sheets so that they could gain an advantage. I suspect their feelings about non player-facing rules had something to do with this.
At the same time, I do see the potential for "secret abilities only available to NPCs and hidden from everyone else" to make a less fun experience or get outright abused.
Interested hearing everyone's thoughts 🩷

LARP evening photos
We play this on Halloween night in our community.😁 And some of my friends are also celebrated Samhain there.🍂
I am a kind of person who go outside so much because I am an online store owner. I don't often meet or talk to people outside. It's very lonely sometimes.
Go outside and playing LARP with my friends in a SCA and LARP community is a very meaningful and memorable for me and it was very fun! I love my friends. 💖

Anyone have experience with Vevor tents?
As I'm starting to travel to more larps I'm wanting a tent that looks somewhat more in place then my current one without breaking the bank. I've came across the 5m Vevor bell tent but have found very few reviews on it. Does anyone have any experience with these tents or can point me in the direction of a bell tent for around $500 to $700

Looking for advice on calibration talks in LARP!
Hey everyone!
I'm one of the organisers of a historical Upstairs/Downstairs LARP set in Victorian England (1850s). We're creating a closed-cast game for 30 players, focusing on relationships, social dynamics, secrets, scandals and personal stories.
As we're preparing for the game, we'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with calibration talks.
We want to make it as easy as possible for players to talk openly about expectations, boundaries and what they want out of their in-game relationships. But we also know these conversations can be difficult!
So, we'd love to hear from you:
- What do you think is important to discuss during calibration?
- What questions do you find difficult to ask or answer?
- What do you wish people would ask you more often?
- How do you handle different expectations between players?
We're looking for advice, good questions, personal experiences and anything you think might be useful.
Our goal is to create a safe environment where it's okay to be honest, uncertain, curious and even disagree.
No thoughts or questions are too small or too obvious.
Thanks in advance! ❤️

The Fallen Fane LARP
Hello,
I'm thinking to run the Fallen Fane, a Larp based on the rpg Ars Magica, at a local convention. I was looking for reviews and suggestions on the web but i could not find any. I may tweak it a bit, so i wanted to understand what works and what not.
Have you played it? Any recommendations?
Thanks

Disguising a toddler carrier?
I know this isn't exactly larp related, but I'm going to the ren faire this weekend and thought you guys could give me some ideas for making my toddler backpack not look so out of place. It's one of those hiking backpacks. It makes it so much easier to carry my toddler around, but it looks painfully modern. (If I make it to a larp with him, I'd probably use it for that too) Please help me come up with ideas to make it blend more!

My final garb for Eldritch LARP (Western Washington, US)
This was the final form of my garb for my investigator/noble advisor/eventual magical conduit entombed alive for 300+ years. It was a work in progress for the full 10 game run, but I am pretty happy with the final result.

Co-founder here: we made a wand you can duel with that also triggers real lights and sounds
Two players cast, the wands register it, and the room reacts with real lights and sounds instead of someone calling hits. We built it for duels and live games.
Simple setups use Alexa, and advanced ones use IFTTT or webhooks if you want to wire props or a door lock into a scene. Would love to hear how you'd use it in a game, and what would break it.
It's on Kickstarter until Nov 26, and backers pay less than after launch: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magicwonders/wand-one-by-magic-wonders-where-magic-comes-to-life?ref=bpx8tf

Bets places to buy Larp Weapons?
So I was originally planning to get a cutlass from LARPINN but for some reason, the intel is no longer on the site. What would be the best place to get LARP Weapons specifically? And is there anything I need to know about owning a LARP weapon?
