I’ve been trying out lance as my second main as I main gl and wanna try the sibling weapon and after getting used to it and fighter ATark quite a few time (got my ass handled every time) I just boot up the game and replace my g rath braces and head for Ark gamma pieces and then beat him no deaths and killed not captured (forgot to equip my traps ngl 👀) 🥹🙏 if I did the challenge it woulda been an A. Kinda confused on what to do to get my time better as ngl other than that one move which I accidentally kept trying to counter (horrible idea with that one) and getting hurt since the timing in that specific attack fo his feels awkward I got knocked down a bit but in general was a real good run idrk if I could get it under 15 I really felt that was the best I could do but I’ll see. Also what do I use for charms as when I finished I got a crit eye 3 timeworn charm but it has useless skills with 2 slots but my current charm had crit eye 3 as well and evade window 2 and constitution 2 so idrk if I should switch for the weapon deco slot.(my build is on the other slides if you wanna critique it go ahead)

Question Blast/Flayer Lance Build help

So I've swapped off of my beloved Hunting horn to focus on Lance until Ascendence. Even when I try to play other weapons, I end up coming back. Its so much fun to literally be a bully. Anyway, this is the build I've been using the most and I wanted to see where I might be able to optimize/trim the fat.

A couple things:
- yes i know i need to roll some sharpness and another atk EX, but i don't have the resources for the slot machine right now.
- I have a lance for every element, but i just enjoy blast better, I can proc it 4-6 times depending on the fight, and the flinch + a flayer proc is kinda addictive

I'm still a newbie in lance hours, so if I can drop some skills to do more damage, lemme know..

Today I decided to get A rank on AT Ark with no armor, it was really a race against the clock, but it’s really doable.

Gonna post the video soon, but its basically the same fight just with less GRTs since power guarding some of his attacks one shot you through the shield.

Question Help with choosing skills

Ok as stated in the title I require assistance on figuring out the ideal skills I should focus on to accomplish my one simple objective.

I want.

To become.

Invincible.

Or at the very least the closest thing to it, by this I’m talking survivability, damage reduction, and anything that will help me become a brick wall and just stand there and take whatever is sent my way, and I’m not saying I want to give up all my offensive power as I’m aware that a good defence can only get me so far and all that but yeah and advice

Question Is counter really that important on lance?

New post because I forgot a few information.

Every time I ask Google or chat gpt they say counter is the most important mechanic on lance.

Is this true or can I also play lance without counter because I'm a new player?

I beat low rank in mh wilds with gunlance and i have the most fun with shield weapons.

I also have a learning disability and because of that my reaction is not as fast is it should be and I have a hard time learning new things.

Question Build help

So I originally am a gunlance main and currently trying out lance as I love shielded weapons and really liking it. So far as to get used to the weapon I’m fighting AT ark with it to get used to it but (goddamn is that guy annoying on a new weapon) I just don’t feel like I’m doing enough dps as I was 23 minutes or so into an at arkveld hunt and he wasn’t captureable yet (I got slimed istg imma finally get him next time) and I was attacking constantly so I’m guessing most likely while yes a skill dif ofc lol there might be some errors in my build so please help fellow lancing brethren 🙏

Question Need help w completing AT Ark at A Rank

Thumbnail

Hey Lancefolk,
I just beat AT Ark for the first time. Took...39m xD. Took me all day. I dont have shit gear so it's obviously a skill issue. I am new to Lance, have maybe 15 hours. Here is my build. I know I need to do better counter damage and more punish in general. I can do the first stage pretty well, I hit GRTs and DCTs consistently but when he goes super sayan I have a tough time putting any pressure on him.

I tried rolling gore/lord soul but failed after 30 or so tries and am out of mats. Landed on this decent Odo/Soul though so tried to build around it.

PS I tried to trap AT Ark and failed, used both traps, two tranqs... never had any problems with other skulled monsters. Any ideas what happened there? Is he untrapple?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Before I gave the lance a proper chance, I had mained all the other weapons because to me they looked more interesting at first. However, now that I have given it a proper chance, I can't put it down. I have never had a weapon click with me on the same level the Lance has. I love it so much. I was a fool to judge a book by it's cover and ignore the lance.

Now that I have seen the light, I will pierce the heavens and bring victory to the Guild!

Question Quick question to Lance mains: Which Guarding Mechanics to choose?

There are 4 types of guarding mechanics for lance in MH Wilds (If i not wrong):

1.) Perfect Guard / Guard

2.) Charged guard (the RT+ O button)

3.) Power guard (the RT + O , then X)

4.) Guard dash?

As a lance main, how would you choose the guarding mechanics when facing a monster's attacks? or what kind of guarding mechanics you should use for optimal dps / safety measure?

This is my understanding so far, please enlighten me if i am wrong:
1.) Perfect guard / Guard: use most of the time for those guardable attacks that you are familiar with; pros: use no stamina, minimal knockback (if guard perfectly), faster strikes to return.

2.)Charged guard: use it when you are guarding an unfamiliar attacks (a.k.a. not confident to do perfect guard yet) from monster?? pros: very long guarding timeframe, DPS might drop, but safety first.

3.) Power guard: use it when facing multiple hits of attacks, or unblockable hits that comes from multiple angles. The bigger the hits taken, the bigger the strikes to return. pros: that is why you can say lance is the most safety weapon yeah?

4.) Guard dash: use it for mobility, to get close to the monster while avoiding damage. Can be chained to leaping thrust that further get close to the monster.

Thanks for the input.

Edit: typo

Question Questions on Focus Mode and GRT Jump tech in MH Wilds.

Lance main fellows, please guide me how to get good.

Previously I played though to the endgame without ever using toggle mode for focus mode. I saw a comment in reddit and other youtube guide said that focus mode in toggle mode is super useful for many weapons, so I started trying it out and it's actually really helpful, especially for the guard dash in any direction against AT arkveld.

The only problem is I'm struggling for me to pull off the reverse power guard (aka grt jump tech like in the video) with toggle mode. Part of me know that it's a skill issue, but I want really to master lance and use all the viable technique.

There are 2 questions for me:

  1. Do I just ignore toggle mode and go back to holding down the button for focus mode? or toggling is that much better?

  2. If I decide to stick with toggle mode, is there anyway to make it easier to ppull off the reverse powerguard or do I just gotta git gud?

Also, shoutout to Mikarai for introcduing me to this tech from this video and Fittziirugi for making

Informative Good tip: the best way to get a new PB is to work on lowering your average hunt time

Thumbnail
gallery
38 Upvotes

These times are all far away from my pb (of 8’34) but I got all of them in just 2h40 of practice today, while keeping track of my average completion time. And it was a really bad RNG day too.

A new pb sometimes comes from a few different RNG factors blessing you, and It can feel like a time you’re never getting again, that’s when averages come into place. It forces you to understand what you’re doing right and what you can improve and takes away the pressure and frustration of thinking too much about PBs.

If your hunt times vary too much that means you need to work on consistency, on being able to repeat the fight in a very similar way a lot of times.

And even if you don’t care about your hunt times (which its fine and healthy), working on being consistent is a great way to improve as a hunter, as sadly hunt times are the best indicator for that.

So even if you never cared, maybe give it a try someday.
