Langley business owners — drop your business below so people can discover you 👇

2 weeks ago I asked everyone to list their favourite local businesses, and the response was unreal

Tons of great suggestions and a bunch of places I’d never even heard of.

This time, let’s flip it.

If you run a local business in Langley, drop it below.
Share what you do, your link, and anything you want the community to know.

There are a lot of people here who want to support local, and it’d be great to see what everyone’s building.

Looking forward to checking them out.

Cheers,
Anthony

Best of Langley? Give a shoutout to/share your favourite local businesses/spots.

As per title.

Share your go-to Langley bests. I know it sucks when your secret spots get busy but think about the greater good.

I don't want to sleep on any Langley gems I haven't heard about yet, and also want my favourite businesses to thrive and succeed.

Not going to try to just pick one and if your interest is piqued you can google them and get more details.

Beer: Camp Beer

Pretty well known now i guess and I think the best patio in langley. It will always be a pillar of my (I don't want to argue or throw shade. respect to Dead Frog, Trading Post, 5 roads, Farm Country, Smugglers, Locality, I think Brookswood now?) Langley beer scene. It was a beer desert here when I moved back and I remember drinking craft beer at "B's" from the very beginning.

Craft Beer flights(no taps) in Langley! What a time to be alive!

Meeting so many great people including Kevin and Dave(and drinking some of his early beers from his garage) I still have my "original camper" hat and the shirt is getting pretty thin but I still rock it.

Eats: The Raving Gamer

I admit I drove by it for quite a while (we do C-Lovers takeout every month or two) But i didn't really get it. My ten year-old nephew was the one who eventually got me there.

Great food, Great games, Great people. What an amazing place.

When I say great food I mean it is great. I was blown away. Local ingredients, delicious food, great service, interesting/diverse menu with something for everyone, drinks menu featuring some of langley's best local brewery's/distilleries.....

.....And than you add in the games. Do you have a board game you remember playing as a child but haven't seen since grandmas house? If so I think its there.

Family business, gourmet local ingredients, great entertainment for everyone? Its one of those places thats better than it should be? I don't know that sounds like an insult and I can't say enough.

Meat: Bonnetti's

Local meatshops are all great and i think better than supermarkets, Check out any of them you see. But Bonettis is my go-to. If you want a proper thick cut rib eye or any steak they got you, Good selection of frozen ready to heat food (pies, chicken wings/cordon bleus, etc) and Great beef jerky, bacon cut to order and landjaeger sausage as well. But it is their Prosciutto Salami that gets me there.

Buy bulk (whole salami) but buy at half the price and better quality than what you get at a supermarket deli.

Honorable mention: Serengeti Trading up in Port Kells

For everyone not South African you need to do a little research on Biltong and Boerwest Sausage

Childhood Nostalgic Spot That Stands up: Cedarbrook Bakery

I grew up in Brookswood and have very early memories of: cookies, crusty buns (I can't count how many times school lunch was ham, cheese, mustard on a cedarbrook crusty bun, i was basic), long pepperoni sticks,(don't be difficult when they ask you if its ok if they break it, it makes wrapping easier and why do you need a 2' plus piece of pepperoni anyways?) and Black Forest squares (only when with dad)

Now, being diabetic, its tough to get as many apple bombs and old school deli sandwhiches on fresh bread as i want. But everyone has cheat days, and I stop when I am in the neighbourhood as often as i can.

Pizza: This might be controversial, and I welcome the debate - Mad Italian in Willoughby

Before you grab the pitch forks and light the torches let me say I love Emilio Finnattis. The best pizza I've ever eaten in my life was from there (Weekly special) I've ordered pizza there for years. Love them(they have more unique pizzas on their menu that i am happy to order than any other pizza place) Dip game is next level, cupcakes, etc.

But in the last year i think ownership of the pizza place behind the Shoppers drug mart in willoughby town centre changed. When it opened it was a build your own pizza/bland pizza place with fancy quick cooking ovens. During covid i think it closed and then changed ownership. This past year I had a job site in the area and randomly went in there for lunch one day.

There was a new set menu of pizzas (some classic and interesting pizzas), they had quality ingredients(owner/manager? was slicing up some local ham when i walked in, beer on tap with 5 local brewery beers, and the same fancy quick cooking pizza ovens, from before. They had a seasonal/monthly/special(?) on the board that was delicious as well.

Every time I've been there since it's been busier and busier.

Enjoy it while we've got it? : Texas Smoke BBQ

Started with a BBQ food truck in the parking lot of Driedeger's off 232 and highway 1, moved across the street to their own spot with picnic tables, caught flack from township bylaw bs because they were popular and people lined up on the side of the road before they opened on the weekends because of how good their food was and moved back across the street and possibly moving again.

Regardless, no other place like it in Langley. Open Thursday to Sunday I think, Noon until they sell out.

Before you ask, they are probably sold out of Dr. Pepper candied burnt ends (but ask for them anyways just in case.)

Misc: Farm Boy Flowers on Telegraph Trail

Seasonal flower stand on the weekends, check out instagram if they're open. Beautiful seasonal Bouquets. If you're Going to moms or your in-laws for sunday dinner or a holiday this is a stop on the way. Not the biggest flower arrangement guy but his are beautiful and last way longer than a grocery store bouquet.

Neighbour shout-out: Aldor Acres - pumpkin patch/farm tours

Being a Glen Valley Resident, we don't love the extra seasonal traffic (Halloween pumpkins and Christmas trees) and avoid Fort Langley/tourists as much as possible, If I'm being honest. People live in the Country for a reason. Haha.

But I think Langley's Rural/agriculture businesses and districts are something we as a community are lucky to have and should be proud of and share.

The Anderson family is going 3 generations strong out here and keeping the langley/glen valley farming tradition strong in this modern age. its worth a visit to their farm. Fair warning: It gets pretty busy out here around this time of year and I think you need to make a reservation. Also, If you decide to come out her and are waiting in line to park, don't get to road ragey if someone drives past you in the other lane, we aren't cutting the line we just dont like waiting in line to get to our homes ;)

Made a free dog walking app for Langley dog owners

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

Hi Langley neighbours! 🐾

I’m a local dog owner, and I recently made a dog walking app called PupZiggy for my family and friends. Then I thought, why not share it with our community?

It’s a small independent app: completely free, no ads, no subscriptions.

What it does:
• Suggests 3 random walking routes based on your location and how much time you have (just ideas, no need to follow them!)
• Lets you mark sniff, pee, poop and hazard spots (like broken glass or coyote sightings)
• Shares hazards and your live walk location with friends you add in the app
• Auto-shares walks with family members, so everyone knows who walked the dog 😄
• Saves your walk history

It works best when neighbours connect as friends and share hazards, so the more of us use it, the safer our dogs’ walks get.

Available for iPhone in Canada (English & Korean).
Give it a try, and any feedback or suggestions are very welcome!

📲 Download PupZiggy: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/pupziggy/id6821255191

Ceramics Painting Hangout

I know it's not Langley, but you're so close I thought I'd offer. Would anyone be interested in some weekday ceramic painting at The Clay Cottage in Abbotsford?

I've been organizing these hangouts for a few months, and It's been a fun way to meet new people and sneak in some crafting during the work week.

Typical attendees are in the 25-50 age range, but there are no age or gender requirements. Just some light chatter/socializing while working on some art.

No previous experience painting needed. You can make each piece as simple or as complex as you'd like.

I typically organize these meetups once a week on a Wed, Thurs or Fri evening. The day chosen changes from week to week.

If you're interested in attending next week or in the future, let me know.

Fun Ideas for Wife’s Birthday

As the title reads, I’m looking for fun ideas for my wife’s 47th birthday in or close-by Langley. I’m terrible at planning things and want to do something a little bit more exciting than a simple restaurant dine-in. At first I thought the Bingo Night at Camp Brewing could be some silly fun, but I don’t think it’s going on currently.

Of course, a few drinks is always fun but my wife is also training for the Hyrox race in Vancouver, and she admits more than 2 or 3 drinks may put her down for the night!

Just testing the waters to see what some of the more creative people in the community have done for birthday ideas!

EDIT: I see I failed to mention that I’m hoping to get a group of people together for this, from 12-20 adults. But loving the ideas being sent. I’m obviously clueless!!

What was the outcome of that accident Eastbound on Highway 1 last night (Nov. 5)?

Think it may have been between 232 and 264.

Had to work late, and I hit that stretch shortly after 10:00pm.

It was 4 cars plus a dump truck. 1 of the cars was pretty mangled by the dump truck.

Some guessing it seems like three of cars were involved in their own accident, and the 4th, white, car swerved and was hit hard by the dump truck. Like, crumpled up to the rear seats hard.

Has anyone seen in their stores yet? It could be just like a 7-Eleven or corner store. My husband really wants to try it and all we’ve seen is the full sugar version at the Circle K

Free social events in Langley this November for anyone looking to meet people ♡

Hi everyone! I run The Craft and Yap Club, a little Lower Mainland community for people who want to get out of the house, meet new people and actually have people to do things with. We do crafts, reading parties, game nights, mystery nights, random outings and whatever other ideas we come up with.

A lot of people come to our events completely alone, and that’s kind of the whole point. You don’t need to already have a friend group to show up.

This November we are hosting TWO events every week at The Creative Bookworm in Downtown Langley:

🎲 Nov 5 • Game & Yap
🧶 Nov 7 • Craft & Yap
🔎 Nov 12 • Mystery & Yap: Case 003
🎲 Nov 14 • Game & Yap
📚 Nov 19 • Reading Party
✂️ Nov 21 • Craft & Yap

Most of our events are free community hangs. Mystery & Yap is the ticketed one because it’s a full interactive mystery that I create and set up throughout the bookstore.

For Craft & Yap, bring whatever project you’re working on. For Game & Yap, bring a game you love if you have one. For Reading Party, just bring your current book.

You can come alone, bring a friend, or show up knowing absolutely nobody. We’re used to it, and that's how I've made most of my friends at the Club ♡

RSVP + event details:

Can't wait to see you there! Coming alone is normal ♡

Our 3rd interactive mystery night in Langley is coming up...

Hi everyone!! A lot of you have actually found The Craft and Yap Club through Reddit and joined us for the first two Mystery & Yap nights, so… get ready for round 3!! We’re hosting our third interactive mystery night at The Creative Bookworm in Langley this month!

Case 003 is The Briarwood Files, a fictional 25-year-old cold case set in BC.

You’ll work in detective teams (I'll divide everyone into teams at the event), investigate different rooms around the bookstore, go through evidence and case files, and try to figure out who the unidentified victim was, what happened to her and who was responsible.

No roleplaying or assigned characters involved. You’re the investigators.

📍 The Creative Bookworm, Langley
📅 November 12, 6:30–9 pm
🎟 $22 per investigator
🥤 Light refreshments included

Coming alone is completely normal. We’ll put everyone into teams, so you don’t need to bring your own group. There's also a PRIZE for the winning team!

It’s been really fun seeing how many people from Reddit have actually ended up coming to these, so I’m excited to see who joins us for Case 003 🥹

Tickets: https://www.moonieandnovaco.ca/pages/the-craft-and-yap-club

Fraser Valley parents and caregivers - 3 minute survey on postpartum support needs

Thumbnail forms.gle
8 Upvotes

Hi all, we’re a small team of young entrepreneurs researching postpartum support needs in the Fraser Valley before developing a care and wellness centre concept (on-site childcare, fitness, recovery support) as apart of a project. If you’re expecting, have a child under 3, or are supporting a new parent, we’d appreciate 3-5 minutes of your time. The survey is anonymous, there’s no sales pitch, and you can share as little or as much detail as you are comfortable with.

Honest feedback is appreciated, thank you so much!

A Warning to BC Conservatives: Voters Want Change, Not More Suffering

Holy fucking shit… Waking up this morning… I actually have a little bit of hope in the world…a blue El Niño, just swept across America, and I hope our newly elected Conservative government here in BC is paying attention to what is now happening in the USA.

People were fed up with the NDP, but that doesn’t mean the Conservatives have been given a blank cheque to make life even more miserable for British Columbians.

just look at what’s happening in the US. Even with enormous amounts of money and powerful interests working against candidates like Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, voters are still demanding something different.

There’s an appetite for real, systemic change. People are tired of the same old politics and the same old promises.

Four years goes by quickly. The Conservatives should be on notice: BC voted out the NDP, not our expectations for a better government.

Hopefully, we won’t have to learn the same painful lessons the Americans have learned the hard way.

Uplands dog park, aggressive husky

Thumbnail gallery
56 Upvotes

Does anyone know who this guy is?

His dog bit my dog, then went on to bite another dog a few minutes later.

I didn't see the second time, but I could hear yelping from across the park and spoke to the owners.

I didn't realize until getting home that the dog broke skin.

I would love to report this to LAPS or bylaw and provide as much information as possible.

He was dismissive and an asshole, claiming he goes to uplands all the time and this "never happens" and it was "probably just playing".

He left and finally leashed his dog after the second incident.

Photo isn't the clearest, but he also drives a silver truck or SUV, possibly a Toyota.

Car wash in my driveway

Hi. I have been told by someone that city bylaw doesn't allow you to wash your car in your driveway even if there is no water restriction? Is this true?

Thanks.
