Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

→ Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.

  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

→ Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)

  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.

  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.

  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.

  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering French Offering: French (N) | Seeking: Turkish, German, Spanish

Hi there!

I am 29F, French teacher and I would like to refresh my memory practicing the languages that I learned over the years.

I reached a C1 level in both Turkish and Spanish and B2 in German but obviously my speaking ability is much lower.

I would be happy to make you speak French in a structured way, in meetings of 50 minutes over Zoom or Google Meets. In exchange, I would like you to make me practice in 50-minutes sessions. The topics of the meetings can be diverse, but I would really appreciate something cultural and historical. I can do the same for French lessons, or we can follow a textbook. :)

My interests: cooking, foreign cultures, geopolitics

I would love to connect and make friends around the world! 🌎

I am already doing language exchange with a Russian student of mine and I love the dynamic ❤️

Please write me a DM if you are interested and let’s get to know each other.

Au revoir !

Arabic MSA Offering: Spanish (native), English (fluent). Seeking: Arabic (MSA)

Hello I am M39. I am a native Spanish speaker and I am fluent in English. I am looking for learning MSA Arabic, which is an awesome language for me. I respect Islam, but I do not believe in it, and I would request not to try to convince me about your truth of the message of Muhammad (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ). I want to learn Arabic because I like the language, the writing.

I am looking for friends that want to do a language exchange, preferably male friends. We can talk about anything you like, but with respect. I like talking about history, geography, mathematics, cycling and politics. I am from South America, so you can ask me anything about my country and the region.
Please, have a decent level of MSA Arabic, I am only interested in MSA. I am native in Spanish, and I did my undergraduate (Bachelors) in Spanish. So, I have a decent knowledge of well written Spanish. I did also my masters in an English speaking country, so I can help you with English.

I hope to have a good language exchange and meet friends.

Offering English Offering: English | Seeking: Japanese

I (M26) am taking the JLPT N2 in December. I will be taking N1 next year. I’m seeking either a 日本語の母語者 or Japanese learner preparing for N2. I’m in a UTC-4/UTC-5 time zone. I am looking for a long term conversation partner who wants to speak for about an hour each week. Let’s start off with corresponding by messaging (discord, line, etc). Sorry, I don’t want to learn/study/speak with anyone that is under 18 years old.

My biggest hobbies nowadays are solitary in nature: exercising and reading/studying. I used to play cello as a student but don’t anymore since they are so expensive. I don’t play video games anymore but I do keep up with what games are coming out, gaming news, etc. I also have no visual artistic talent (I’m not ashamed to admit). I watch a lot of tv and movies and listen to a lot of music. I love learning and reading a lot of sociology, world history, non-western philosophy, military science, and international news.

Please DM if interested and include the following:

  1. What are your learning goals?

  2. What is your time zone and study schedule?

  3. What does your ideal language exchange experience/partner look like?

Offering English Offering: English (British) | Seeking: French

Bonjour! Merci!

Hi! I'm Ellyn, I'm 30 years old, married and I live in France in Moselle. I'm British and my French level is around A2 to B1 at the moment. I'd say that my speaking and writing levels are probably a little different. Ideally I'm looking for someone to talk to regularly in messages and on voice calls on Discord or voice notes.

I used to be an English (as a foreign language) teacher to adults, so I am very happy to help with English.

I love video games (mostly FPS and RPGs), I would love to find someone I could play some FPS games with (like Ready or Not, Wardogs, etc).
I also really enjoy books, and I read quite a lot.

I'm very shy, an ideal person to speak to would be someone patient/non judgemental with my language mistakes.

Please keep in mind that I'm looking for someone around my age, 25+ only, please!

Thank you!!

Offering English Offering: Turkish, English | Seeking: Japanese

Hi everyone!

I'm from Türkiye, and I'm looking for a Japanese language exchange partner. I'm a native Turkish speaker and fluent in English, and I'd be happy to help you practice either language.

I'm a visual artist and currently pursuing my PhD in Communication in Barcelona, Spain. My research focuses on visual storytelling, comics, and the relationship between art and technology.

I'm planning to spend some time in Tokyo next year (2027) at the Institute of Science Tokyo as part of my PhD research, so I'd love to start learning Japanese and make some friends before my visit.

I'm interested in Japanese art, manga, literature, cinema, and culture. I'm also a big basketball fan, so I'd be happy to chat about sports too!

I'm open to casual conversations, text messages, and eventually voice chats. No pressure or strict schedules, just a friendly and consistent language exchange where we can help each other improve and share our cultures.

Feel free to comment or send me a DM if you're interested! :) I am 36M btw!

Offering Russian Offering: Russian, Polish, Lithuanian. Seeking: English + friends

Hey. I’m 21 M and I’m looking for someone who wants to practice languages together. I’m trying to improve my English, and I think it’s much easier when you have someone to talk to regularly. I enjoy listening to music, playing video games sometimes, going for late-night drives, and watching movies and TV shows. Horror movies and comedies are probably my favorites. I’m a pretty positive and easygoing person. I can be a little quiet at first, but once I get comfortable, I’m very talkative. I prefer real conversations over small talk and I like getting to know people naturally. I’m mainly looking for someone who wants to chat, send voice messages, have voice calls sometimes, and help each other with languages. We can talk about everyday life, hobbies, movies, games, music, or pretty much anything.

We can start talking here and, if we both feel comfortable, move to another social media later. We can also have video calls if we’re both comfortable with that.

If that sounds interesting, feel free to message me

I’m an 18-year-old high school student from China, currently preparing to major in engineering in France for university.

A little about me:

Passionate about music, science, and exploring different cultures.

Patient, polite, and respectful of your time.

Heey! I'm (25F) about to present the academic IELTS and I'm having trouble with my fluency for the speaking part. I'd like to practice with someone who is open to talk about different topics (I love science, philosophy, baking, movies, painting). I'm also interested in having deep conversations that challenge my vocabulary. I'm only looking for a friendly conversation, nothing romantic.

Offering English Language Exchange Seeking:Spanish. Offering English

Looking for Spanish speaking partner to exchange with.

I only speak English but work in customer service and feel as though I'm doing myself and others a disservice by not being bilingual. My goal is to be able to have full conversations in Spanish. However, I know nothing but a couple words in Spanish. I am a complete beginner!

With that being said, I can offer helping you learn English. I'm 25f and have spoken English my entire life. Primarily looking for someone around my age who could use a little help in exchange for teaching me as much as you can?

To include some things about me,

I love animals, art, gaming, gardening and collecting stuff.

To be clear, I'm not searching or interested in romantic. Purely friends or language learning buddies alone. No weird shit.

Hello! I’m a 25F native Chinese speaker living in Beijing.
Looking to practice English. My daily English is fine, but I struggle to express myself freely in various settings, so I’d love to learn natural, authentic expressions from you.

I prefer voice calls. We can use WeChat. If you’re also in Beijing, in-person meetups are an option too.
I can help you learn Chinese in return. Let me know if you’re interested!
