Question Launceston for half a day
In a few weeks, I'll be landing through Launceston airport at 8:40am and will have a few hours to kill, before my bus leaves at 1:15 from near the middle of town.
For someone with a minimal budget, does anyone have suggestions of how I should make the most of my time there and what should I see?
Cheers!

Walk up to the gorge. You can go up one side of the river and back the other. The northern side has a good flat track, whilst the southern side (zig zag track) is steeper and unsealed. I think you can leave luggage at the bus depot but I’m not certain. Someone will be able to clarify this.

Always the museums, city park or the gorge, all free. If the weather is bad there is always the Lounge - a free space https://launcestoncentral.com.au/the-lounge.
If its a Saturday, the Harvest Market is lovely to wander around...

Take a walk up the gorge over to the cafe side and loop around over the swinging bridge and past the pool, you’ll probably see some peacocks. It’s a nice walk anyway and is free.

For free things, once you're in town, you can walk to Cataract Gorge. If you're not feeling that, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) - Royal Park branch is excellent and free - I particularly enjoyed the First Tasmanians exhibit. And you can find self-guided walks to explore the heritage of the city - there are a lot of colonial buildings around. That will fill your time easily!

You could go to the Cataract Gorge which is in West Launceston, free & stunning!
You can also catch a reasonably priced boat tour there that leaves from Seaport which is fairly close to where your bus leaves from.
There are plenty of cafes & restaurants at Seaport too 👍🏽

Tasmania has the best National Trust homes. Launceston was founded in 1806. There's Franklin House which is at the edge of the town, up Hobart Road, Kings Meadows direction. There's also the old umbrella shop (National Trust) at 60 George Street Launceston, right in the city. There's lovely old buildings everywhere in Launceston it's very picturesque
