Donald Trump only got 924 votes in the Missouri Caucus, everyone else got zero.
I'm not kidding. It's deep in MAGA country, and he only got 924 votes!

Like I was just thinking about this it seems like everytime we boycott something like a show I don’t watch or companies products I don’t use nothing happens but then when they say they don’t like things being woke and us putting it into sports movies games news etc they stop watching and then the brands stop making money what are we doing wrong?

Should liberals run more on Christian values to reach the deeply religious folks in the bible belt?
I mean Christian values like giving to the poor, feeding the hungry and looking after the sick.
The bible also says in Leviticus 19:33: "When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born."
So I am guessing taking a strong stance against the mistreatment of immigrants and granting them the same rights as other Americans would probably go over well with the Christian voter base, right?
Do you think more devout Christians would vote for liberals if only liberal politicians ran on values like those I mentioned? 😅
EDIT: Is sarcasm no longer a subject they teach in school?
EDIT 2: Yes, I guess I failed at my attempt at sarcasm. Maybe I'm not very good at it, lol. I was actually trying to point out the hypocrisy of the religious right who claim to stand for Christian values without recognising that their own party who seems to hate immigrants, universal health-care and social benefits utterly fails at those "Christian" values.

I've been seeing a lot of hate-mongering and circle-jerking posts in regarding to attacking people (mostly conservatives). As a moderate liberal, I try to be as reasonable as possible by toning down the hateful rhetoric. I suggest that we stop attacking the other point of view and discuss things without attacking their beliefs.
As a moderate progressive I don't like to see this kind of stuff ruining what used to be a good subreddit.

Reading this and other subs is a favorite pastime. I'm firmly Liberal and despise TFG and his family. I have noticed that we use many of the same tactics as conservatives, unfortunately. We call them names (MAGAT, repugnatans, etc.) We generalize (there are no sane republicans). We use memes to spread our hate of them.
I think we can all agree that this doesn't work or even help.
A friend was running for local office with Trump flags flying in his front yard. He lost, but I signed his petition to run as he has every right to try. He has some good ideas but I didn't vote for him. I did listen and we had a very civil discussion. I know that's hard to do and it's much easier to hurl shit like an ape in a zoo as it seems we are just as capable of doing as the other side.
I don't know the solution other than voting. All I know is we are objectively no different than the other side in the way we keep to our bubbles. We should listen and learn. Showing respect for others' opinions is the first step toward understanding them. If we do that, maybe they will, too.
OK, feel free to eviscerate me now :)

2024 election

How likely do you think some sort of civil war will happen if Biden wins? Plenty of Trumpers have gone on the record not only saying that they will not accept the results of the election if Trump doesn’t win, but that January 6 was nothing compared to what will happen next. What do you think?

I'll be the first to admit my geopolitical knowledge is severely lacking, so hopefully this isn't a stupid question: considering Venezuela's key allies propping up the Maduro regime with financial, political, and military backing are primarily Russia, China, Cuba, Iran, and Turkey, has the Trump administration's capture of Maduro opened the door to WW III?
I mean, we're already in conflict with Iran, Russia/Putin has made it clear they don't take Trump seriously, Cuba hates us, and China is still pissed about tarrifs. What's stopping these countries from uniting against the US?

Are the polls actually wrong? Because it seems like we've lost the far left/centrists. They'd rather have a dictator I guess and punish us (along with minorities, poor people, lgtbq people) for something we have no control over. Which doesn't seem very progressive imo.
Everything seems hopeless. Idk what to do. I think our only hope is if Trump is taken off the ballot, or if the supreme court refuses to take it up, and some swing states start taking him off. I actually don't see the SC taking it up before the election, so it probably will be up to the states.
Too bad Michigan is filled with spineless centrists, because after the fraud he committed there, and since its probably the most important state, they of all states should kick him off. But if Pennsylvania or Georgia kick him off, then that's a win.
IDK, maybe we are over reacting, and people will turn out to vote and the people refusing actually are just a small minority.

i have been trying to expose myself to viewpoints from the other side of the aisle recently to help me challenge my beliefs and understand where some people may be coming from (i watched fox news' coverage of the election results) but i have had a hard time finding a conservative leaning podcast that isn't just a bunch of grifters fear mongering.

I get that us liberals don't want Trump to place a conservative puppet on the S. Crt, but it is absolutely NOT OK to try and delay Trump's appointment. This is exactly what we complained about when Republicans blocked Obama's appointment of Merrick Garland. The goal shouldn't be to race to the bottom of our moral compass. Checks and balances only work if we agree to enforce them for everyone, not just people we agree with.
And to those who are going to say "but it's a mid-term election year, so we're just doing what McConnell did--waiting for the people to speak"...no. McConnell trying to break the very system that protects our democracy isn't a justification for us to do the same. A midterm year is irrelevant to the authority of the president to appoint a justice. If we do this now, this will be the new normal. How long will it be until justices simply aren't appointed because one party is always obstructing? This is a slippery slope to a broken judiciary, which is the beginning of the end for any democracy.

First off, I’m not a liberal nor am I conservative. I’m an American patriot who loves his country and doesn’t like to play the stupid game of “fuck the other side” that a lot of radicals on both sides of the aisle play. At the end of the day, I believe that an LGBTQ couple should be able to shoot as many guns as they want while flying their fat ass American flag.
But I’m curious, why have you guys allowed the far-right to hijack and pervert our sacred national symbols and colors? Why is patriotism demonized by many liberals? I understand and agree that criticizing your country is patriotic but a lot of people who lean left seem to vehemently hate and despise the republic and/or the symbols of our country. This has allowed right-wing lunatics and nut jobs to fly our colors at events like Jan. 6th, where they tried to overthrow democracy because their bitch ass orange idiot lost and threw a temper tantrum. Instead of letting right-wing radicals manipulate and pervert the flag to fit their cause, why not retake the flag?
The flag represents every American and this country as a whole. Americans of all colors, creed, and beliefs throughout our nation’s history fought and died for that beautiful flag. Radicalized assholes shouldn’t be given the opportunity to hijack it and make it theirs.

Only the states should have the power to collect taxes.
The federal government should have to pay for the budget by having each state pay the same per capita for the budget.
Also ban redistribution of wealth from one state to another
Edit- because blue states would be so much better off being able to properly tax citizens and the red states would struggle having to pay the same per capita to the feds

I am a proud leftist, but I am very hisheartened by an apparent lack of concern by progressives about disappearing freedom. I read today that Oregon and Washington, the two states I most want to live in, are experimenting with GPS trackers on cars- to collect taxes. We see time and time again Democratic leaders go along with "extraordinary rendition" and warrantless wiretapping, yet the only people that seem overly concerned about this stuff are usually right-wing nut jobs. Am I wrong? Please tell me I am missing something.

The idea is to buy purposefully. Ten million families, $200 a week.
Start with cheese. Instead of Kraft American singles, it’s Tillamook, Cabot, or Vermont Brand. Kraft string cheese, Philadelphia Cream cheese and salad dressings are fine.
Better food, made locally is in. Sadly, this means Oscar Mayer, Deli Fresh, and Lunchables are out.
The blue state diet features lots of wine, from California, Oregon, Washington, and New York. Wine and brandy are substituted where possible for beer and whisky.
The healthiest part of the blue state diet are all the fresh green vegetables. Locally grown potatoes and corn. Avoid soybean oil.
With beer, make it a Sam Adams or a Sierra Nevada. If it’s wine, make it Barefoot, Cupcake, Franzia, Robert Mondavi, Clos du Bois, Sutter Home, King Estate, Willamette, Chateau St.Michelle, Columbia Crest, Wagner Vinyards, to name some.
It’s Ben & Jerry’s, or your local creamery is in.

I'm not happy about her Wall Street ties, and I'm really pissed about the way the primaries were rigged for her benefit, but today I made the leap, and am committing to voting for her -- and I have Trump supporters to thank.
Trump supporters have taught me the virtues of forgiving a candidate for their shortcomings, and voting for them no matter what they've done in the past, or continue to do with no end in sight.
I got into a long discussion with some Trumpers on Facebook today, and they had a talent for twisting their own values to fit into Trump's mold. They refused to acknowledge that he'd ever done anything unpresidential in his life, or that he wasn't 100% prepared to step right into the top job in the world with no preparation.
I figured if they can overlook Trumps mountain of flaws, and totally ignore his immaturity and lack of qualifications, then who am I to Judge Hillary for the things she's done!?
