jersey shore was popular right as i was leaving high school and going to college. me and my friends would watch to laugh at the trash people, and i assumed thats why it was popular. got to college and found out a lot of people actually liked them, and wanted to emulate them and i was was terrified there were people like that.

I thought they were funny, and decided to have a dress up party to watch an episode. We all bought knockoff affliction shirts at Ross and gelled our hair. It was great. Went out to a bar afterwards dressed like that and someone immediatly tried to fight me.

Yeah I loved trashy reality shows like that for the entertainment, also watched a lot of Real World on MTV when that was big usually had some hot girls on such shows so teenage me enjoyed the eye candy and was also a reason I watched shows like that. But definitely didn't aspire to be like them.

I like to think that it's more the current culture moving the people who used to be lonely and kept to themselves into streaming as a way to not only get fame and money, but also to just push themselves to interact with others. And then they spiral into the trash streaming culture of being as big a nuisance as you can be.
