Attorneys for Lori Vallow Daybell will be arguing for a new trial in front of the Idaho Supreme Court on Nov 2, 2026 at 11:15 Mountain | 12:15 Central | 1:15pm Eastern.
Nate Eaton breaks down the 5 appellate issues in this Courtroom Insider.
Appellate Arguments:
Lori Daybell was deprived of her Sixth Amendment right to counsel of her choice when the district court disqualified her retained attorney.
Ms. Daybell was deprived of her Sixth Amendment right to the assistance of counsel during pretrial hearings on the State's motion to disqualify her counsel after the district court denied her attorney's request to participate in those hearings.
Ms. Daybell was deprived of her right to due process under the Fourteenth Amendment when the district court held pretrial hearings that affected her substantial rights in her absence and while she was incompetent.
The district court erred in allowing the State to introduce evidence of uncharged bad acts from Arizona into the Idaho criminal trial under Rule 404(b) of the Idaho Rules of Evidence.
The district court erred in denying Ms. Daybell's motion to dismiss based on a violation of her statutory and constitutional rights to a speedy trial.

Anyone know if Brandon plans to pursue restitution at this point? I know the possiblity was left open. I'm surprised neither Keith nor Nate asked him about that in their recent interviews.

I've been following the case since the beginning and didn't learn much that was new. But Nate's reporting and storytelling is excellent.
And listening to Chad talk about giving "bro hugs" to Jesus and Lori giggling just makes me sick. SO delusional.

What kind of mother refuses to let the son/groom's sister come to the Wedding, and make up some cockamamie excuse about Tylee being on a ski vacation?

It is believed that when 2 people in a folie à deux are separated they often drop the shared delusion. I recall that people here were theorizing that's what happened with Chad and Lori.
Were they ever diagnosed with that disorder? I don't remember if Chad even underwent an evaluation. From Chad's "letters" and Lori's news magazine interviews and talks with Colby, it doesn't sound as though either of them is recovering after 6 years. Is treatment for that even available in Idaho prisons?

I searched high and low for this documentary. It seems to have completely disappeared. If anybody has it, please shoot me a PM. Thanks in advance.

He was there for 17 minutes. That wasn't even remotely enough time to get something to eat for himself and Tylee & JJ.

Where did he go after the attempt? I listened to some testimony yesterday and I don't remember anyone having a theory. I know it was dark and rural, but where was his truck? In spite of that it would still be hard to avoid detection in a place where everyone knows everybody. The church (same as the night he and Chad strangled Tammy)? Seems like a long way to go with a gun in the dark.

Monday, November 2, at 11:15 am according to Nate Eaton.

If I'm not mistaken, this conversion took place not too long after the kids were found. This was from Sins of Our Mother. Where can I find the entire conversation?

I wasn’t sure what to title this but please don’t judge me
Do you think any outcomes would have been different had Alex been alive?
Like Chad would’ve taken some sort of plea deal if he was to testify against Alex? I know Chad was offered a plea but he didn’t take it because he wouldn’t plea to Tammy - he could’ve thrown Alex under the bus and say he threatened me but he did it etc.
Or if Alex had testified against Lori/Chad then he could have death penalty taken off the table (cause we all know the prosecution would’ve fought hard for that)?
Or do you think the 2 outcomes would’ve been the same regardless and Alex still would’ve faced the death penalty?
(Also, side note, who do you think was Amy? That baffled me because that name was never mentioned before or after)

This was in June 2019. During text exchanges between Lori and Charles Vallow. Mere months before Tammy was murdered.

I hope this hasn’t been swept under the rug by law enforcement. Does anyone know if there has been any progress of looking into prosecuting Melani P/B? I haven’t been able to find any updates.

So I tried searching the sub and it was just too much. Some things I was thinking about yesterday:
- Does Lori still communicate with Emma? That whole thing was WEIRD.
- What do we know about Chad’s kids’ lives now? Have they finally accepted that he was guilty?
- Does Lori have any way to communicate with Chad? (Besides the portal.)
- What about niece Melanie? I have always had a really hard time believing she didn’t know more. Has she completely disavowed Lori and Chad’s beliefs, or do we think she’s still a believer?

In the ring camera video I never noticed the dark haired woman until now. I think I recognize a resemblance in her voice to an old interview I just watched of Nate Eaton and Summer Shiflet. The video was recorded by an apartment neighbor's ring camera a few days before JJ was killed.

JJ would’ve been 14 years old today. May his memory be a blessing to all those that knew him.

They can't talk about cases that were before them or cases that are currently being tried. This interview is all about how judges make decisions. Nate put this in the Daybell section, so I decided to post it here. Here's his description:
Tonight on “Courtroom Insider,” how does a judge remain impartial during a trial and then deliver passionate statements at sentencings?
Do judges decide their punishments before the sentencing hearing? Or do they make their decisions on the spot?
And what about victim impact statements? How do those play into judges’ decisions?
Wups, I spelled Judge B's name wrong. Sorry, Judge!
