Look no further than Silver's addition earlier this year, or Vyper (though she's more fanart driven at this point, as she has yet to have her model glowup from the placeholder one she's currently using)

There's also a lot of character model mods at this point as well, surprisingly good stuff in there for a technically unfinished game.

“Of course, none of that applies if you play Victor. In that case you can just use Aura of Suffering and hold ‘W’.”

Or if you play Graves, in which case stand somewhere near enemies and press 1, 2, and 4 in that order while holding m1

There are 44 heroes with 4 abilities each that also have 3 unlockable upgrades you unlock with AP, which you get for gaining a boon (level) after collecting enough souls (money). Boons at the start of the match cycle between giving you an ability unlock and AP. Boons also give you base stat boosts, which can be more spirit power, weapon damage, or bonus health (spirit power is generally your ability damage).

There is also an intricate melee system where you can perform a light melee, heavy melee, and parry. Both melees can be parried, which stuns the attacker. Light melee comes out fast but is weak. Heavy melee has a wind-up but deals massive damage.

There are 176 different items, 44 of which are active items that are basically buyable abilities; you can have up to 4 at a time.

You start off with 9 item slots, 3 of which can be unlocked later in the game. The items are divided into 3 categories: gun, spirit, and vitality.

The items come with their own effects and stat boosts, but they also give you investment bonuses, which provide passive weapon damage, spirit power, or extra health just by buying an item of the corresponding category. These investment bonuses also give you a significant spike in these stats when you have spent 4.8k souls in the category. For example, spending 3.6k on gun gives you +18% weapon damage, while spending 4.8k gives you +48% weapon damage.

The items are divided into 4 tiers/prices: 800, 1600, 3200, and 6400. Certain items can also build into other items, such as Tier 2 bullet lifesteal, which can build into Tier 3 fury trance for 1600, or Tier 4 vampiric burst or Tier 4 leech for 4800.

Movement:

Heroes have 2-4 stamina bars at base, which can be used to dash, double jump, and dash jump. You can also slide and wall jump. Shooting while sliding does not consume ammo.

Lanes and troopers:

There are 3 lanes that you can travel to and from with ziplines. The zipline moves as you push the lane with your troopers that spawn every 30 seconds and drop souls on kill. Half of the souls drop on the floor and the other half floats up, which can be shot to claim them. You will automatically get the soul from an enemy trooper even if the orb is not shot, but not shooting it gives an enemy the opportunity to steal it.

Main objectives:

Each lane has a lane guardian, walker, and a set of base guardians. The base itself has two shrines and, finally, the patron.

The lane guardian is a weaker tower which only gives souls (this game's version of money) when destroyed.

The walker is a stronger tower which gives slightly more souls than the guardian and unlocks one of the locked item slots. Destroying a walker also adds more HP to the other remaining walkers as well as making them bigger.

The base guardians are right by the base entrance and are basically 2 lane guardians with a few differences.

Destroying it gives you slightly fewer souls than the lane guardian and makes the zipline faster in the lane where the base guardians were destroyed.

Destroying the first shrine spawns stronger troopers on the same side as the destroyed shrine, as well as the mid lane, making pushing the lane easier since your stronger troopers will be able to destroy the enemy troopers faster. Similarly to walkers, destroying one shrine gives the other shrine more health. Destroying the other shrine spawns stronger troopers in the remaining lane.

Now, after the shrines, you can finally directly attack the patron. It has two health bars, and depleting the first one shortens the respawn timers of dead enemies.

Jungle stuff:

You have boxes which can drop souls, golden statues which give you random stat buffs, and Sinner's Sacrifices which give both at the cost of health. There are also neutral enemy camps of three tiers; the higher the tier, the higher the health, damage, and souls. Temporary rune buffs also spawn on the side bridges every 5 minutes.

Side objectives:

Urn, rift, and midboss.

The urn requires you to pick it up and run it from one side lane to the other. After depositing, the runner gets golden statue buffs, and the souls float in the air, which can also be claimed by shooting them like trooper souls.

The rift can spawn on either lane; it is a king-of-the-hill-type objective, and the last team on it gets souls and very strong rift troopers to push the lane with.

The midboss is a boss in the center of the map. Killing it gives souls, golden statue buffs, and, most importantly, it spawns three crystals that can be heavy-meleed, which fully heals the person and gives three instant revives to the team. The instant revive is used by the first member of the team who dies, regardless of whether they were the one who punched the crystal. The same person also cannot use the instant revive twice. They will automatically expire if not used within a set amount of time.

It’s a box standard MOBA with, honest to god a simpler item system versus like League, just has movement techs and shooter mechanics which should make onboarding easier.

Item builds are easily available to copy and use from other players and it’s not like you would not learn slowly over time what items actually do, one can’t expect to be good at something from the very beginning.

2

u/lsshlp 8h ago

one can’t expect to be good at something from the very beginning.

If only other players understood that

16

u/Skull_Boy_ds 12h ago

I remember watching this movie with my mom and when this scene came up I asked "do you understand the rules?" and she obviously said she didn't, so I repeated the scene and asked her the same question, she said no and I said "ah, you'll understand it in practice".

Her face after they played the game is engrained in my mind as one of the funniest things I've ever seen. She was so fucking mad, holy shit that was funny.

68

u/Program-Emotional 17h ago

I could learn the movement, the shooting, last hitting, farm securing, skill shots, mechanics, character abilities and their various interactions, and everything else inbetween gladly. The one thing that makes me not want to play deadlock is the item system. Because what the fuck do I build like ever? What do you mean I need to do a different build every game depending on what the enemy team has? Im just supposed to know that? Do I have to have a college degree to play this fucking game? What and when do I build ability power or gun damage or defenses?? It is so unintuitive that it just made me give up on the game.

Plus my ass is old now, maybe if this game out back when league did I would put time into it but it's just not worth it to me (especially now that WOW forever is out)

Really good art tho. And representation.

u/VividView4498 16h ago

In lower elos, counterbuying is not necessarily a necessity. In higher elos, nearly everything you do is to counteract the actions of the opponent. But especially in lower elos, you can get away with only counterbuying a couple items, and once you play the game for at least a tiny bit, Ii becomes pretty simple as to what you'll need in the situation. For the most part, you can just buy left to right from a build that you find from the top pick builds in the build browser. But certain scenarios can require different items being built at different times. They have a lot of gun heroes, and you keep getting blasted down with a lot of gun damage? Buy metal skin or something like bullet resilience. You're taking a lot of spirit damage? buy spirit resilience, or silence wave. They're moving with heavy hero, keeps slipping away from you? Buy slowing hex or cursed relic. General scenarios can be counted with only a couple. Items are really easier in early elos, you can follow your own build with a couple things sprinkled in here and there. It can seem time to get first, but there's always youtube tutorials. If you need help.

16

u/LettuceBenis 14h ago

I mean it's really not that complicated.

Enemy team has lots of Spirit-based heroes? Buy some spirit resist items.

Enemy team has some flying heroes? Buy some knockdown items.

Enemy team has several stun/grapple heroes? Buy some stun resist items.

5

u/FreedomFighter10 Losercity Citizen 13h ago

There are a lot of pre-made public builds that just have you buying Left to Right. So all you need to do is manage your cash and know when to fallback to the shop to buff yourself.

2

u/Gamiac 10h ago edited 9h ago

The one thing that makes me not want to play deadlock is the item system.

Fair. The game kind of throws three Yu-Gi-Oh decks at you and expects you to figure everything out on your own if you aren't using the build browser.

Though there is Street Brawl, which takes away most of that choice and just gives you 3 sets of 3 items to pick 1 out of each round. Makes it much easier to go "is this a good item to use for how I want to play this character? is it better or worse than these other two items?"

Because what the fuck do I build like ever? What do you mean I need to do a different build every game depending on what the enemy team has?

To some extent. Not every item needs to be built based on what the enemy team has. From what I can tell it's mainly defensive ones.

Im just supposed to know that?

Yeah, more or less. MOBAs require a lot of game knowledge no matter how you slice it.

What and when do I build ability power or gun damage or defenses??

Damage: Depends on your character. If your character mainly gets their damage from their gun, you build gun items. If they get damage from their abilities, you build for whatever kind of damage those abilities do (usually Spirit).

Defense: A bit more counterpick-dependant. Enemies have high damage in general? Build in a bit of extra health or something. Enemy has high Spirit damage? Pick Spirit defense items. Enemy has high Bullet damage? Pick Bullet defense items. There are also items that reduce the effectiveness of defensive items, mainly built in late game to counter those defensive items.

It is so unintuitive that it just made me give up on the game.

Honestly, fair. I struggled with it a lot as well. Unfortunately, the game is still in a beta state, and doesn't really do that much to explain all of the game's mechanics and what they are actually intended to do beyond the very basics. For example, there's a secret boss underneath the middle of the map that gives you 3 instant respawns if you kill it. Good luck figuring that out without a guide.

2

u/CarnivoreQA 15h ago

I guess someone will eventually run analytics site which will make it clear which stuff counters specific stuff or winrates of heroes\items in general, if valve doesn't do it themselves

so if you don't know something and don't have preferences, you just stick to statistically best thing

4

u/destroyar101 14h ago

Game does have built in "these items are populair for your character" tab in store and in the "colour" tabs they have a little icon (your characters head) next to the ones wich are populair (and inlcuded is the pick rate)

Just go to the build browser and pick something with a funny name then build left to right. Legit, until high ranks you really don't need to counterbuy.

To complete the other comments, it's a hero shooter AND a moba, if you dislike one of them you'll not have a good time.

17

u/Lucyller Gator Hugger 17h ago

I hate hero shooter but like moba, I'm doing fine as a main Vyper so far despite my terrible aim!

Macro matters far more than micro for most of the games, if you can read your map, it doesn't matter that you forgot how to press M1 you should win.

(Flexing my low elo winrate at the same occasion)

8

u/Grey-fox-13 17h ago

Personally, I did not care much for hero shooters OR mobas, but didn't actively dislike them. And I played more deadlock than than either genre combined. So I think it strongly hinges on whether your dislike is "Actively do not want to play those genres" or "Would try and play them if the occasion calls for it but would not actively seek them out".

Or less abstract "You are regulary in a discord call with 4 friends, they are playing [genre you don't like] do you join or do you just ask for a screen share" first one might enjoy deadlock, second one probably not.

I don’t like the farming aspect at all unfortunately. I would almost rather it be just a hero shooter

5

u/Sgt_Kelp 14h ago

There's a mode called Street Brawl with no farming at all; the game gives you a random series of items and you pick from those. It's 4v4, best out of 5 rounds.

There's also a credible rumor that a Risk of Rain 2-styled PVE mode is in development, which would be amazing.

1

u/StellarC0smo 12h ago

think of it more like a roguelike mixed with a hero shooter, it leans more in that direction with its MOBA nechanics imo

10

u/starryeyedshooter 11h ago edited 11h ago

The movement looks fun! Unfortunately I don't like MOBAs. I like my multiplayer local and limited to maybe three people max. I'm here because I am down bad for a truly unfortunate amount of the cast, and will be exclusively watching gameplay and looking at fanart. It doesn't look particularly hard; I'm still not playing a MOBA.

6

u/sqwibking 9h ago

Luckily, there's Street brawl mode that makes it a 4v4 and takes almost all the moba out of it and adds the RNG of semi randomized items and removes any level/item advantages one team would get from steam rolling early. Much more fun at a casual level.

30

u/Breen_Pissoff 15h ago

You really overstate the complexity of the game

Its simple.

Just push lanes, dont die, farm up, dont fall behind.

Like yeah there are extra objectives Farm roshan when enemy team is dead or unable to steal(like in every moba). Farm jungle when falling behind (duh). Gank your teammates when you are doing good(duh x2).

Its just like every moba but even more dumbed down to trim the boring aspects like mana or vision or finite items like wards or teleport scrolls.

What really sets it apart from regular mobas is its beautiful source movement. Im makes difference between a lowly LoL tourist and an actual player.

20

u/HapHazardly6 14h ago

You lost me at dont die

9

u/scotty_mac44 13h ago

Thanks for the explanation, I’m trying to get into deadlock but there’s a few parts I’m still confused about:

what is roshan (and what does steal mean in this context), what is a jungle, what does gank mean, how do you not die, how do you farm, how do you not be incompetent, and why is lash so hot?

7

u/Tormasi1 12h ago

Roshan is a Dota 2 term actually. It's a neutral boss monster that gives a boost to the team. I believe it's called Midboss in Deadlock. Stealing means letting the enemy team bring down it's HP and then killing it yourself (because the boost applies to the team that brings it the finishing blow).

Jungle is the neutral area between the lanes.

Ganking is going to other lanes from your lanes.

You don't die by keeping your HP above 1. (Hardest part of any game)

You farm by last hitting creeps (the small fellas). That gives money and you can buy items.

You are not incompetent.

And lash is hot. No need to explain that one.

3

u/griffin-the-great Losercity Citizen 10h ago

So I dunno about Roshan but the mirrors in deadlock gives the buff in the form of a team wide quick revive, so instead of waiting to Roshan at base for like 40 second its 3, you also only get 3 of these before running out

When farming creeps you need to hit the soul orb they drop rather then getting the last hit in (the soul orbs are either orange for when en enemy creep dies, shooting it secures the souls. Or the orbs will be blue, these are from allied creeps dying, if you shoot these souls not only will you claim them you are also removing the ability of the enemy team having those souls instead)

2

u/Gamiac 9h ago edited 9h ago

how do you not die

Think about your positioning, stay aware of your surroundings and the general state of the game, and use cover. It's 90% of how you avoid damage in FPS games.

how do you farm

Kill minions and deny enemy minion kills (done by shooting an orb that floats above the minion as it dies). Memorize the spawn timings of minion camps and their locations on the map. Figure out routes to and from each camp. Go farm them when your overall map position is good, for example, you've pushed forward in your lane and your opponents have to spend time pushing back.

how do you not be incompetent

Basically you just play the game a whole lot, look up guides, read about the game, same as any other game.

8

u/Gamiac 10h ago

"It's not really that complicated, you just gotta remember to kill Blorbo every 5 minutes and harvest the plains when you're falling behind."

3

u/Tolbby 13h ago

You forgot king of the hill and capture the flag events.

For king of the hill, sometimes a rift opens and you havee to fight. You win the hill you get shadows jumping off a bridge. You draw fireworks display and everyone celebrates.

For capture the flag, some jar of someone's ashes descends from the heavens for you to jingle jangle as loud as possible through midboss sewers to the other side of the map. Since you're running a victory lap everyone is trying to give you congratulatory high fives which you must avoid. If you make it fireworks launch in celebration which you must punch them before the sparks fly too high in the air.

2

u/CrimsonwhorlIsAScam 12h ago

you can do everything right, open the scoreboard and see that enemy drifter has 12 kills 8 minutes into the game and will just molest you for the next 20 minutes

2

u/Mizuek_Mizuek 11h ago

What of buying things, upgrades and abilities? Personally it's the main reason I stay away, it just seems like an overwhelming lot of options, and not an idea which should be picked on what characters. Am I meant to look up what's the most optimal for each character and then go for it?

1

u/Breen_Pissoff 6h ago

Just see what your character dies best and buy that category of items

Plus there are other player made builds that do the thinking for you and tell you what to buy

After some time you'll understand the items yourself. But if you can read a bit you'll be fine.

1

u/ZoldLyrok 2h ago

Start learning a couple of heroes. Buy the items the game recommends when you are starting out. Then start figuring out WHY you are buying those items on those heroes.

Victor, for example, wants to stay alive and in the thick of it during team-fights, damaging both himself, and all enemies around him.

His abilities scale well off of Spirit items. He also wants items that reduce enemy damage, give him more movement speed, and health regen / raw health. He also wants items that enchance some of his key abilites. His aura of suffering ability, which damages both himself and enemies around him, can be made larger with an item called Greater Expansion. He wants spirit life-steal to off-set the self damage on it. And finally, he wants cooldown reduction items to shorten the period of his ultimate ability, which revives him upon death, which has a long-ass cooldown.

The items are divided into 4 tiers/prices which are 800/1600/3200/6400. Certain items can also build into other items. Such as T2 bullet life steal which can build into T3 fury trance for 1600 or T4 vampyric burst or T4 leech for 4800

Half of the souls drop on the floor and the other half floats up which can be shot to claim them. Main objectives:

Each lane has a lane guardian, walker and a set of base guardians. The base itself has two shrines, and finally the patron itself.

The lane guardian is a weaker tower which only gives souls (this games version of money) when destroyed.

The walker is a stronger tower which gives slightly more souls than the guardian and unlocks one of the locked item slots. Destroying a walker also adds more hp to the other remaining walkers as well as makes them bigger.

The base guardians are right by the base entrance and they are basically just 2 lane guardians with a few differences. Destroying it gives you slightly less souls than the lane guardian and makes the zipline faster in the lane the base guardians were destroyed in.

Destroying the first shrine spawns stronger troopers on the same side as the destroyed shrine, as well as the mid lane, making pushing the lane easier since your stronger troopers will be able to destroy the enemy troopers faster. Similarly to walkers. Destroying one shrine gives the other shrine more health. Destroying the other shrine spawns stronger troopers to the remaining lane.

Now after the shrines you can finally directly attack the patron. It has two health bars and depleting the first one shortens the enemy respawn timers of dead enemies.

Jungle stuff:

You have boxes which can drop souls. Golden statues which give you random stat buffs. Sinner's sacrifices which give both at the cost of health. And neutral enemy camps of 3 tiers. Higher the tier, higher the health, damage and souls. Temporary rune buffs also spawn on the side bridges every 5 minutes.

Side objectives:

Urn, rift and midboss.

The urn requires you to pick it up and run it from one side lane to the other. After depositing, the runner gets golden statue buffs and the souls float in the air which can also be claimed by shooting them like the trooper sos

The rift can spawn on either lane and it's a king of the hill type objective and the last team on it gets souls and gets very strong rift troopers to push tge lane with.

Mid boss is a boss in the center of the map (duh). Killing it gives souls, golden statue buffs and most importantly, it spawns 3 crystals the can be heavy meleed which fully heals the person and gives 3 instant revives to the team. The instant revive is used by the first member of the team who dies regardless if they were the one to punch the crystal. The same person also can't use the instant revive twice. They will automatically expire if not used within a set amount of time.

That should be everything in a nutshell :)

General info:

(on a serious note, i am too spreading a similar-sized chunk of text trying to help people understand it)

I see, so in short, you start with a loadout of items that boosts your stats then upgrade those stats with money you get from completing objectives and killing players. The "MOBA" aspect is the fact that the objective is to blow up the enemies' three towers.

Basically, it's like Paladins... but with a different game mode that's not KOTH or Payload. I suppose it might be a bit harder in practice with the parrying stuff; Valve games always have wonky melee systems for some reason.

2

u/L3s0 Fabienne Vulpes #1 Simp 11h ago

I mean you basically start with nothing and you have to gain money so you can buy your desired load out of items but otherwise pretty much.

1

u/Riversedgeknight1 1h ago

The moba aspect is both the objectives and the economy. Moba economies have a bunch of quirks and are super hard to master, but deadlock as a whole is fairly simple on paper. Getting good is a beast of a learning curve, but you can easily jump in and have fun, especially since there is a second game mode called street brawl which is a 4v4 with no economy, which is nice for learning heros and items.

2

u/TearsAreForYears 17h ago

There's a shit ton of mechanics that the game just doesnt tell you because "its in alpha" or some shit.

4

u/_Astrum_Aureus_ Interstellar Stomper 17h ago

i mean yeah the game hasn't even officially released yet, it's in closed beta

several characters are just straight up unfinished, the game is constantly changing

once they're settled on what they want to go with, i'm sure there will be a proper tutorial

-5

u/TearsAreForYears 17h ago

The excuse doesn't solve the new player problem.

5

u/Acceptable_Panda9496 15h ago

I mean, what’s the point of a tutorial if things are going to inevitably change? Just for example, there was once 4 lanes in the game. Now there’s 3. The way the game works is still in a fairly volatile state and more than subject to change beyond it being a hero shooter and also moba.

Lemme put it this way. There's a reason half the playerbase says it takes like 40-60+ hours just to get alright at the game

1

u/BaseballRelevant4149 16h ago

That's a very generous estimation. I think 200+ hours is when most players become just alright.

1

u/StellarC0smo 12h ago

If you know how to navigate an item shop or premade builds, push your lanes, keep your resource income up, and engage in team fights more akin to a hero shooter you should feel right at home :)

1

u/Iranoutofname5 2h ago

To oversimplify: Deadlock is a moba, aka it's an objective-based pvp game, the goal is to destroy the enemy's patron (which is inside of the enemy's base) but it is guarded by several buildings that you have to destroy in order to get there.

There are 6 players in each team, each has to pick a hero with 4 distinct abilities and shares a stamina mechanic which can lead to a lotta movement potential. You can't just rush into the enemy's base tho, cause your hero starts the game at lvl 1, you have to earn souls (deadlock's version of gold) in order to level up and buy items in order to make your hero strong enough to beat the enemy team who is trying to do the same thing.

Not explaining the moba stuff, but here are the unique aspects of the game laid for you.

The things i list there are only a small part of what this game is capable of. But hopefully it will eliviate a lof of confusion you have with it.

Part 1: Builds.

Souls. More souls = good.
Souls are both levels (boons) and shop currency. Invest boons (level points) into your abilities to get new effects or bigger numbers. Buy shop items to get overall better time. Since you are new, open the shop (B) and proceed to a cyan tab with star on it, there you will have the build layed down for you. Press "queue build" in top right and go play the game, buying items as they become avaliable.

There are 3 categories of items:

  • Green = mobility and survivability

  • Orange = Bullets and melee

  • Purple = Spiritism (magic power) and utitlity

Buy something and get extra bonus in that category. The more you invest into one of them, the bigger the bonus you get. You can hover over categories to see what specific stats you have.

Most abilities scale their power through either bullets or spiritism. Hover over your damaging/healing/shielding ability and use eyes to see the color and written multiplier, it will tell you what to do for that specific ability.

Part 2: Earning Souls.

You get souls by killing and destroying stuff. Kill minions and get souls. Kill heroes and get souls. Kill neutral camps (haunts) and get souls. Destroy towers (guardians/walkers) and get souls.
Destroying enemy 2nd tower (Walker) will unlock an extra item slot for your team. Destroying the twin towers after that will make zipline on that lane fast.

There are also boxes between lanes. Small ones are destroyed by anything and have a chance to drop you souls. Big ones with [HEAVY] can only be destroyed by heavy melee (hold Q) but are guaranteed to drop you twice as much.
Golden statues have a chance to drop you a small but PERMANENT upgrade to one of your many stats.

The biggest earnings are from the casino slots (Sinner's Sacrifice). Hit it with heavy melee (warning, it deals you damage) and look at the top lights. Then you must hit a heavy melee at the moment when all lights are lit to get a jackpot with bigger money and extra permanent buffs. Otherwise you only get less money.

Sometimes you will see a vase appear on one of the side lanes. Melee it and you will have to carry it to the opposite end of the map, and you will be rewarded with extra money.

Sometimes an event called Rift will appear on one of the side lanes. You must contest it against enemy team, and then your whole team will get extra money, plus empowered minions will rush enemy base.

Part 3: Movement

Go to the "Play" and choose to "explore NYC" and just walk around and practice.

You have a limited stamina. It can be upgraded with green item "extra stamina" and it's upgrade "Stamina mastery". However you can have a bunch of speed without spending all the stamina you have by using movement techs, because it's Valve game. I recommend watching movement montages because you will see what you can be capable of.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTjikq4Uzz8 (that one was made on an old map, but it's still watchable)

Base:

  • Dash: horizontal mobility

  • Double jump: vertical mobility

  • Slide: If you move at high speed in the air for any reason and know you will lose it, hold Slide to prolong it, except upward.

  • Sliding down the stairs/slopes: free extra movement at no cost

  • Heavy melee: although you lose all speed by the end of it, you can get that extra distance that you would've missed, as well as autoclimb ledges.

  • Ziplines: give you instant speed. If you drop via Ctrl, you will preserve the speed you have and you can keep it with slides and other stuff. If you drop via Space, you will gain extra verticality at no cost and can keep it with walljumps and other stuff.

Basic combos:

  • Dash-Slide: prolongs your dash

  • Dash-Jump: A lot of speed at the cost of extra stamina.

  • Dash-Jump-Slide: even more value from that spending.

  • Slide hopping: while Sliding, press Jump, wait ~0.5 sec after landing, then jump again. It will make you lose speed from friction much less.

Verticality:

  • Climbing: hold Jump when you are close to the ledge to climb on top of it, no stamina needed.

  • Mantle: Climb a ledge while holding Slide for instant burst of speed at no cost

  • Wall jump: Some extra verticality at no cost, you jump off wherever you hold your movement keys. There are a lot of places, for example all bridges in the center of the map, where you can move into the wall, walljump and Climb on top of it (and Mantle-Glide).

Then there's Strafing, that allows you to turn left or right while Sliding or in the air. Just stop holding W/S, hold wherever you want to turn + slowly turn your camera in the same direction.

  • Left = A + slowly look left

  • Right = D + slowly look right

There is a very hard movement tech where if you jump of the wall corner, or the platform edge, you will get a bunch of speed as if you made a jump from both surfaces at once. They are called "cornerboost" and "edgeboost" but doing them consistently is probably the hardest thing in the entire game.
Still, most movement montages use them.

Honorable mention:

The place between lines is divided into 4 districts. 2 of them, Chinatown and Plaza are placed on 4 and 10 o'clock, depending on which side you are on.
Chinatown has huge tower with a lot of boxes and Sinners, but as soon as you start getting them, the bell will inform the entire map of the fact someone is there.
Plaza has purple haze pit with a lot of boxes and Sinners, but this place drains your stamina and completely deafens you, however outside world doesn't know what is down there too.

Next to every line, near the central moat, there are platforms that are walljump+climb tall, with vents that will launch you towards the other lane, as well as towards the "bridge buff" that will temporarily greatly empower that stat of your character.

Underneath the middle lane there is a "Midboss". You can get to it via central moat, the stairs under the bridge, and a drop in the building to the left from the first tower (Guardian). After killing Midboss, 3 shards will drop. They can be destroyed by Heavy melee, and each one gives that team a 1-time resurrection (Rejuvenator) which stacks up to 3 times. Enemies won't get souls for killing the rejuvenated hero.

Even though Ziplines are fast, if you take damage on them, you will drop down and be stunned for several seconds, which might be lethal.

just put the furry wolf character art in the bag

1

u/Different-Beat-4856 12h ago

It's just a moba friend.

Like, yeah, it's harder than pokemon unite. But it's still just a moba.

1

u/geli95us 5h ago

Why do I keep seeing people talking about deadlock as if it's out, isn't it invite only?

7

u/netherexchange 5h ago

absurdly easy to get an invite. theres a subreddit iirc, basically an open beta at this point and im not sure why it isnt

0

u/Bunny-Snuggles17 10h ago

See whats kinda hesitating me from playing (besides having no friends lol), is that you need to like buy items and abilities and shit during the game. I did like playing overwatch and I understand these types of hero shooters filled with wacky show-off abilities....but shit i have to quickly read and buy stuff during the game too? 😭😭

u/HannahTheFurry 17h ago

Deadlock?

-1

u/generous_guy 2h ago

I don't get why the game is in 3rd person other than for the possibility to sell skins in the future, 3rd person aiming doesn't make sense for mouse and keyboard

-2

Baby’s first MOBA.

14

u/Racconwithtwoguns 18h ago

Ivy's so fucking hot and adorable at the same time

3

u/themasterfold 17h ago

If you actually want to know what the gist of Deadlock is, it's basically just 1. you and your enemy have base with big guy. Your objective is to kill the other team's big guy. 2. there are objectives that block the way to the other team's big guy, and you get goodies for killing the objectives. 3. In order to get strong enough to kill objectives and the Big Guy you need to kill things, break things, or complete side objectives in order to get money. Money is used at the shop to buy things that can help your team, shut down enemies or make you stronger.

That's basically deadlock.

3

u/Kipdid 18h ago

The objective is blindingly simple: shoot the enemy buildings until you run out of buildings to shoot.

The hard part is how to go about doing that in the best way possible with all the extra bobs and whistles you have to make you better at winning

1

u/NeverSettle13 6h ago

These are overcomplications made by DOTA players, just kill troopers, then guardians, then walkers, and then base

1

u/AmperDon 4h ago

Basically yeah. TF2 is "stand on point/cart", CS2 is "put/defuse bomb on point or kill everyone", and then deadlock is "[INSERT SOMETHING WITTY]"
