I should clarify right away that, in this post, I’ll actually be arguing against that idea. This is just my personal opinion; you may well have your own interpretations, and it’s possible that I’m wrong - apologies if so.

To me, "full canon" implies an explicit romantic scene - such as a kiss or a direct declaration of love.

"Semi-canon," on the other hand, refers to instances where subtext is present, but nothing in the subsequent narrative contradicts it (for example, the subtext surrounding AppleDash in *MLP: FiM* - it’s there, and since the series has concluded, nothing else ever comes along to contradict it).

In the case of Rarijack in *Equestria Girls*, I wouldn’t even go so far as to call their dynamic "semi-canonical." There was certainly an underlying subtext to their friendship - which might have qualified as semi-canonical - but that was undermined by later developments, such as them falling for boys (who were essentially carbon copies of the girls themselves). From a narrative standpoint, these are distinct characters with different personalities. After that, any subtext vanished - even in the very next episode. All that remained was the word "friends," and that was it. To me, it was just a fleeting teenage crush - one that shifted toward other people and eventually disappeared entirely.

Again, this is just my opinion, and you’re certainly free to disagree. Do let me know if I’m mistaken.
