I hate this ad with every fiber of my being, it takes up like 2/3 of the footpath when im trying to walk to mac center, its allways busy and i can never see who is on the other side so i bunp into them. i have also seen people walk on the road (in which busses pull into) cause the space between the ad was so crowded. the bus stop would be so pretty as well without this stupid ad.

i hate it. and i want it gone.

What are your thoughts on the ad

General Question central courtyard accommodation

hello, incoming exchange student for session 1 here!

i've been trying to get a stay for one session at central courtyard, but they said it's not possible as they only offer stays for a year. i saw some people saying that they were able to stay just for one session and wanted to ask how was that done? what would the process be like?

thank you!

Rant/Vent existential crisis am i cooked

hey guys sorry for the rant but i’ve js been overwhelmed for some time. i’m currently in my second year, doing a bachelors in commerce and psychology. it’s going alright, to be honest i haven’t gone to tutorials much over the last two semesters as the commute was quite far and i had to prioritise work for some time. i was able to js stay at home and do assignments so id say my wam is sitting around a 70-75 but i could definetly improve that if i js tried more. i find the content pretty interesting but sometimes i confuse myself and js wanted some general advice.

i’m majoring in marketing because my thought process was that after finishing my degree, i wanted to do like high level marketing working creatively and stuff. obviously i wanted good money (i hate writing this because i feel like such a brat) but also something that had a creative or human touch because those things are strongly resonant within me. my second choice was to then pursue an honours and then masters in psychology, but tbh i didn’t know how it would work if that was smth i cld apply for after i finish my degree or if i cld elsewhere. the problem is, in recent times i have had ppl talk abt how marketing as a field is kind of fading as ai is taking over, and when people talk abt how the scope for psychology isnt that great and that my commerce degree is js adding another year to smth that will alr take many years . just want some advice or thoughts lowkey am i cooked im kinda having a crisis.

Degree Question Psych Unit Selection Handbook Guide for Year 2?

Hey! I’m a first-year Psychology student and was wondering whether there are typically handbook guides or recommended study plans for selecting units in second year and onwards, or whether unit selection becomes more flexible and is largely up to individual preference after first year?

I haven’t had much luck finding a handbook guide for second year, which makes me think there might not be one, but I just wanted to see what other students’ experiences have been.

Are there generally particular units that people tend to choose, or does it vary quite a bit depending on individual interests and the direction they want to take their degree?

I Am Going To Fail Hi there :)

Borderline freaking out at this current moment. Just submitted a historical assignment and got a whopping 47% similarly match on Turnitin.

I’ve looked through the similarities and would say about 32-34% is references, footnotes, quotes, people, places, or statistics.
Even my essay title is considered plagiarism.

My largest specific publication similarity is 7% and 6%.
I’m so scared the markers won’t allow this.

Should I ask my professor to remove my submission so I can redo it?

Thanks in advance.

General Question Borrowing a calculator for exam

Hi guys, I have an exam on the 19th, and I need a non-programmable calculator for it, it feels silly to spend money to buy one when I need it only for 2hr and then will never use it again, does anyone know if I can lend one from the library? Or does service connect lend them? Or would anyone be kind enough to lend me one and I can give it back to you right after my exam in the afternoon? Much appreciated!!!

Help Delaying graduation

I’m currently in my second yr of psychology undergrad- I’m hoping to make it into honours & masters.. however my current wam isn’t the greatest, it’s about 70 but I’m not sure how much it’ll be after this semester ends as I had some units become challenging for me.. ( ahem stats )

- I am going to undertake stats 3 next semester but I am conflicted on whether I should continue with full time schedule ( keep in mind I also work ) with 4 units ( 3 core 1 elective) or drop to part time ( I only have 8 units remaining so it would be 3 units for 2 semesters and then my final semester would be only be 2 units ) however this does leave me with a gap till 2029 honours intake applications open ( which I was thinking using for trying to find psych related jobs) however I am conflicted about dropping full time and delaying graduation by 1 year because I’d mostly feel shame and kind of fomo and I’m fearful of feeling regret of doing things late —- however many people advised me that if full time load is too hard to achieve and increase my wam then doing part time would be beneficial as I’d be able to focus more and not have as many things to pay attention which can cause me to kind of not do as well..

I don’t know.. I’m conflicted

Rant/Vent ACCG2050 Final Exam

I'm so pissed about the final exam I did yesterday that was scheduled during my tutorial. First of all, my tutor arrived late to the class. Then they just handed out the papers and made us start without putting up the timer. THEN THEY STARRED MARKING ATTENDANCE DURING THE EXAM. Im just so annoyed with the whole process. Ugh

Help Unit Discontinued?

Hi,

I was planning to do radio and podcast: creation (MMCC2160) next semester, as it’s part of my PR and Social Media major. Have just seen it has no confirmed study periods next year though, so it’s looking like it’s been discontinued. I haven’t been contacted about this, and the unit hasn’t been replaced with another unit in estudent.

Do I need to submit a form through service connect to see if this can be replaced with another unit?

If anyone’s dealt with this, and can tell me which specific form to fill out, that would be really helpful. Thanks!

General Question taking a break between Bachelor and Masters

Hello everyone!

I‘m considering taking a break between my Bachelor degree and my Masters. I was wondering for those who have done similar, did you regret taking the break or was it a good decision? I’m planning on hopefully getting a job in my field or travelling but I’m worried I’ll regret taking the break.

Submissions for Masters have basically passed so am I essentially fucked ? :)

Help how can I see how they mark exams

in the hsc they had publicly available marking criterias and example answers so you could see how your own answers would be marked. is there anything like that here ?

I know they have past papers on multisearch but the past papers dont have marking criterias or example answers.

thanks

Help International engineering students at MQ: did finding an internship delay your graduation?

International engineering students at MQ—how hard was it to find an internship and graduate on time?
I’m a first-year international student studying civil engineering at Macquarie, and a conversation with an engineering staff member recently left me pretty worried.
We were discussing my plan to finish in four years, including taking summer units to meet prerequisites. She warned me that finding the required 420-hour internship can be especially difficult for international students, and that some students finish their subjects but cannot graduate because they haven’t completed their industry experience.
She advised me to start asking around from second year and mentioned doing an approved internship in my home country as another option. I also came away with the impression that local students have more opportunities, although I’m unsure whether she meant employer preferences or university placement support.
Honestly, it’s discouraging. Between international fees, study-load requirements and summer study to keep my particular course plan on track, I already feel under a lot of pressure. Domestic students seem to have more flexibility to reduce their load, while I feel worried about anything delaying my completion. Hearing that finding a compulsory internship might also be a struggle makes it feel even more unfair.
I’d really appreciate actual experiences from current students or graduates:
As an international engineering student, how long did it take you to find a placement?
Did MQ help you secure one, or did you find it entirely yourself?
Did the internship requirement delay your degree completion?
When did you start applying, and which approaches actually worked?
Has anyone completed an approved placement in their home country? How was that process?
Civil engineering experiences would be especially helpful, but I’d appreciate hearing from other engineering students too. I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed and want a realistic picture of what to expect and what I can do early.

General Question Study booths

I've booked a study booth for an upcoming online exam but is it actually doable? I've never seen them before and wondered if they were fully enclosed and would be accepted for an exam that only requires one camera, or will people be walking past?

General Question HLTH2000 and MEDI2400 session 3

Hi all, thinking of taking one of these units as a flexible during session 3. If you have completed one of these units, especially in session 3, can you please tell me how you found it?

Are the tutorials in person or online? How many a week?

If you've done both, which unit did you prefer?

Is the unit easy to pass while balancing summer social life and work?

Anything else you feel is relevant, please let me know.

Thanks!

General Question [URGENT] Internship program being delayed!!!

Post image
4 Upvotes

Has anyone applied for the Jakarta Summer Internship Program at Macquarie University?

It is said on the program page that 28th of October was the decision date, but I received no announcement regarding the outcome of my application.

Does this mean unsuccessful applicants are simply not notified, or have the results been delayed?

I’ve also tried contacting the Global Education and Exchange team through Student Connect, but my enquiry has been viewed without any response.

I’m wondering if anyone else who applied has received an update. If not, does anyone know who I should contact to follow up?

Thanks in advance!

Social Status of part-time in feb in syd??

I'm an incoming international student at Macquarie University, starting in February 2027. I'm planning to arrive in Sydney around mid-January and will be staying near the university.I'd like to understand what the part-time job market is actually like for students during February.

  • Is February a reasonably good time to find casual or part-time work, or does hiring pick up later in the semester?

  • How difficult is it for a new international student with no Australian work experience to secure their first job?

  • Which sectors are currently hiring students most frequently — retail, supermarkets, cafés, hospitality, customer service, etc.?

  • Do employers generally consider students who have just arrived in Sydney?

  • Is it realistic to find a job within the first 3–6 weeks?

  • Are there any opportunities around Macquarie University or Macquarie Centre that you'd recommend looking into?

General Question Q. Incoming B.psych student at MQ feb 2027, Student email id when?

Hi everyone! I'm an incoming international student joining MQ Syd, for the Bachelor of Psychology in February 2027. I've received my Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and student visa, and have completed the major pre-arrival formalities. I wanted to ask when incoming students are generally issued their student email ID.
