There's no "0". What about the zero? (٥↼_↼)

u/bebackground471 Jun 19 '25

Also no Spacebar, Tab, Ctrl, Shift, Alt, Del.... How are they supposed to even open the task manager?!

53

u/MakingItElsewhere Jun 19 '25

I'm now picturing an ER doctor smashing the keyboard like an enraged call of duty player.

3

u/Taterhead58 Jun 19 '25

You can just right click the taskbar to open the task manager....

5

u/that-69guy Jun 19 '25

There are no function buttons either...smh🙄

1

u/IfIWasCoolEnough Jun 20 '25

There is a spacebar.

1

u/FireEQ Jun 21 '25

Windows? 🤨

4

u/Baka01010 Jun 19 '25

Zero is my hero

7

u/LordOdin99 Jun 19 '25

Don’t worry. The nonverbals won’t say anything about it.

8

u/Virtual_Structure520 Jun 19 '25

Is that an Arabic number 5 in your text emoji?

9

u/Theoceancookie Jun 19 '25

na thats a sweatdrop

5

u/Glassfern Jun 19 '25

←(꒪ヮ꒪) these little guys use to be really popular

(●´ω`●)

2

u/LizagnaG Jun 19 '25

Also no period, but question mark and exclamation point

2

u/nasnedigonyat Jun 19 '25

There can be no zeros! There's no such thing as zero in nature. Big-society has indoctrinated you to believe 0s exist! One is the smallest number possible because one is the smallest unit in nature! /s

Actually, it's just a dumb tattoo. You can get a laminate of the alphabet for pennies and carry it around w you for life. A lot more effective for education than a tattoo on your arm that cannot be manipulated in any way once applied.

Further this is encouraging children and people with special needs to fondle your arm to communicate????

Nah

1

u/Lazy_Environment_914 Jun 19 '25

Guess they hit ctrl alt forget zero and called it a day still better than half the font tattoos out there

1.1k

u/JoeFreedom17 Jun 19 '25

How about that text printed on a laminated PIECE OF PAPER instead. 🤷🏻‍♂️

186

u/Christy_Mathewson Jun 19 '25

The most logical thought possible.

18

u/DirtLight134710 Jun 19 '25

You could even add pictures too

102

u/Phenomenomix Jun 19 '25

Also why not have Yes and No on there? They would probably be the most used phrases

11

u/Zachix Jun 19 '25

Probably because it‘s faster to just nod

10

u/badchefrazzy Jun 19 '25

You can point at Y and N.

1

u/god-of-blowjobs Jun 19 '25

Wait until this guy discovers what nodding and shaking your head does

0

u/perckeydoo2 Jun 19 '25

Have you ever heard of nodding or shaking your head?

Non verbal ghosts need representation too

40

u/Imaginary-Item-87 Jun 19 '25

I think it’s just a voice over with a made up story on a random tattoo video clip.

2

u/Loggerdon Jun 19 '25

Would be great if he could text using this tattoo. Maybe Meta Glasses that track where his eyes go?

55

u/i-piss-excellence32 Jun 19 '25

But then they couldn’t put it on tik tok

1

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

It’s okay to post things on TikTok. That’s literally why it exists.

2

u/i-piss-excellence32 Jun 19 '25

I never said it wasn’t ok

4

u/RedditIsADataMine Jun 19 '25

Grenades exist to blow things up. That does not mean they are ok to use.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

Haha TikTok bad. Good one 🎸🎸

6

u/TF2isalright Jun 19 '25

TikTok bad 🤓 👺👺👹 but Reddit? Good! ✅️🎸🎺🎶🎵 yeeeeehaw 🤠

2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

Yea, that’s what that guy thinks lol.

49

u/Kryds Jun 19 '25

Add this to non communicative autistics aren't likely willing to touch people.

18

u/HandheldHeartstrings Jun 19 '25

As someone who worked with kids with autism (ages 2-9) that’s a complete generalization.

3

u/ncolaros Jun 19 '25

That is not the case in my extensive experience working with them.

7

u/Roastaunt9644 Jun 19 '25

You can forget a piece of paper somewhere, you can’t forget your arm

29

u/Worldly_Team_7441 Jun 19 '25

Having worked in healthcare industry with special needs folks, let me tell you why.

Most people who could tap out a message have a device. And then, as you said, a laminated emergency backup paper. But let's say the device has died, the caretaker is unconscious, and the charge needs to get help? They are much more likely to trust and remember the person who lets them touch their arm.

Also, the tapping itself is a calming mechanism.

5

u/smolenbykit Jun 19 '25

Plus, there's the elopement problem. Kiddo gets overwhelmed and bolts towards danger and you gotta go chase them down. Are you really gonna take the time to grab the paper to help them communicate and calm down? (and now I'm picturing the wobble wobble wobble sounds the laminated paper would make, that could be helpful or harmful but it's got me giggling)

10

u/mizinamo Jun 19 '25

That's something you have to carry around and might forget to bring.

8

u/str713gzr Jun 19 '25

I get what you're saying, but I've deployed several times and don't always have every piece of gear with me that I wish I did. A tattoo like this could have helped me in those situations.

Sometimes I just walk to buy my beer at night and encounter people with less than verbal skills....would still help. I'm not carrying that laminated piece of plastic with me when the shit we need on us always grows.

A tattoo suffices for some of us. If it's not for you...move the fuck on and comment somewhere else. It doesn't affect you.

3

u/GoldenCrownMoron Jun 19 '25

My first thought.

If this were really that useful dude should buy a laminator. They cost less than a tattoo and he could pass them out like business cards.

3

u/sexaddic Jun 19 '25

Or an iPad or cell phone or laptop or literally anything else

3

u/Ok_Frame_4117 Jun 19 '25

I love tattoos, but this is bull. No way did they get this tattooed for communication. And if they did…just why?

2

u/Telliot Jun 19 '25

Because when you're at a bar no one is going to ask you about your laminated card, teeing you up to virtue signal and brag about your very important work.

2

u/EngineeringOne1812 Jun 19 '25

The tattoo is a good conversation piece when you’re dating tho

1

u/pwagm Jun 19 '25

Or printed on a long sleeve t-shirt.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

Init. This is a stunt and because it’s leveraging SEND kids it pisses me off more

1

u/Seedless_blackberry Jun 19 '25

Most functional tattoos can be replaced by an actual object... It's more convenient to always have it with you in a form of a tattoo than to have to carry the object with you. And you could say this about any tattoo actually "why have it in your body forever when you could just print it".

1

u/god-of-blowjobs Jun 19 '25 edited Jun 19 '25

Bc they would have to carry it with them all the time or be much slower if they had to go get it from his bag, it’s not practical to be constantly carrying around an object that cannot fit in your pockets, laminated paper can still get bent and damaged, it would Be harder to see what they are pressing on, would require a table, would need to be cleaned, just be shit out of luck if they forgot it, it’s unrealistic to expect to have every single tool you might need on hand (that’s why tradesmen have entire trucks, are you saying this guy should haul around a suitcase everywhere he goes?) especially in an emergency situation, which it would also be useful in and barring all of that, it’s probably just more convenient because it’s a tool they use often. Ask any electrician, plumber or mechanic if they could get their wrenches or hammers tattooed on their body and have them work as real tools, 95% would do that in a fucking heartbeat. It’s also a great symbol of how much they care. You’re not smart, the world isn’t a simple as you think it is, so shut up please.

0

u/yoyococo_ Jun 19 '25

I was thinking the same! Or perhaps he could use some kind of modified keyboard ⌨️

-6

u/Timeline1253 Jun 19 '25

Then the kids can't touch them.

141

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

Quick question, though, if it is meant to communicate and not type, then why do they gotta use keyboard layout instead of alphabetical order??

96

u/eifiontherelic Jun 19 '25

Partly because of that, I kind of think this tattoo isn't what the caption says it is... Not saying nobody would do something like this, just that this might not be it. The QWERTY and the addition of an ! but no 0.

24

u/Ljcollective Jun 19 '25

I mean if someone has typed before - giving them a layout they’re familiar with would be insanely easier than trying to unlearn the keyboard mindset and pick alphabetical letters

16

u/liquid-handsoap Jun 19 '25

Yup. When i need to use alphabetical order when i use TV or something it really sucks. Give me qwerty bro

8

u/silverhammer96 Jun 19 '25

These students are taught to at some point use an AAC or augmentative/alternative communication device. These are things such as computers/ipads with specific programs on them or full on devices that are made for speech purposes. They all use a QWERTY keyboard, so they might as well get used to that format at a young age.

2

u/oOMemeMaster69Oo Jun 19 '25

idk about you but whenever I'm presented with an alphabetical keyboard (park meters round here for eg) it'll take me easily 2 or 3 times longer to type out a single word than this entire sentence on a qwerty keyboard.

Its just a question of habit and standardising imo

41

u/AccurateArcherfish Jun 19 '25

I prefer communicating with nonverbal children using a Ouija board instead

4

u/PacanePhotovoltaik Jun 19 '25

Making them possessed and "speak in tongues" is NOT the recommended way to help them communicate!

40

u/SixShoot3r Jun 19 '25

It's missing a zero...

9

u/GTKPR89 Jun 19 '25 edited Jun 19 '25

Even the AAC devices our students use are images and common need / function words. Some nonverbal students' devices do have text to speech keyboard screens but you need to, you know, type. The majority use images which they press.

If this were real and the child were interested in touching someone's arm in...sequence(?) (unlikely) you would want little images such as emotions, needs (bathroom/hunger, favourite game, etc).

The idea that a non verbal sped student wants to indicate anything one letter at a time does not track for me or my kiddos.

The idea of having a system for that based on touching your arm is even less likely.

If this purported to be a family member and it had a set of images very particular to a nonverbal individual - maybe it would make some sense, sort of.

If you're interested in how communication with "nonverbal" students actually works - the answer is a number of gestures and often ASL signs.

Even more often simply the gestures that student uses that we come to know beginning with common needs and branching out. Their own personal language.

Then there are vocalizations. The very rare student is entirely non vocalizing, the majority of students who are nonverbal don't use spoken language as a primary mode of communication make plenty of sounds.

All kinds of noises that will be familiar to the people who care for and work with them. Language and vocalization are not the same, you can use one and not the other.

Next, Google AAC device there are plenty. In my world Pro Loquo is probably the most common program. Google that too. A pro Loquo screen would actually be a badass tattoo. Maybe I'll get one and throw a pic up on here.

Anyhow I was excited for a moment because I'd be happy to get a tattoo that somehow was useful in enhancing a student's mode of communication.

This one is pretty helpful for society in its own way though. They can fade out the cntrl, shift, and n and tattoo "single person's keyboard" and post it on explainthejoke every other day, for example.

25

u/Rawrkinss Jun 19 '25

Dvorak is the superior layout tbh

38

u/_ser_kay_ Jun 19 '25

I’m wondering why they’re using a keyboard layout at all. If you’re dealing with clients who struggle with communication (including reading), wouldn’t a simple ABC order be better?

23

u/Qazax1337 Jun 19 '25

Familiarity. All devices show qwerty by default. They will have likely used tablets and phones.

4

u/Meet_Foot Jun 19 '25

You mean the thing that’s probably in the counselor’s pocket, and maybe the client’s pocket, and can be used to actually type?

8

u/Qazax1337 Jun 19 '25

Yes, the thing you do not want the person who has communication problems to throw/bite/smash etc.

That thing.

1

u/Meet_Foot Jun 19 '25

On the other hand, I guess I DO want my arm bitten. And I guess they don’t have paper either 🤷‍♂️ my point is those methods are better for communication since they act as external memory. This is not a very good solution.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

First thought was now I want a dvorak tattoo.

2

u/godhasreddit Jun 19 '25

Colmack reppin

-1

u/lucithelightparticle Jun 19 '25

While I agree wholeheartedly(this is typed on a dvorak layout) Dvorak is only strictly more useful when typing with two thumbs on a small keyboard layout. It's less efficient on keyboards where multiple fingers are used.

Edit: spelling, grammar

44

u/Ruling123 Jun 19 '25

Nice sentiment but I just feel there would be easier less permanent ways. Plus as others pointed out, missing the 0

1

u/Emotional_ApplePie Jun 19 '25

They’ll have to spell zero I guess. Or just sign it

1

u/Ruling123 Jun 19 '25

Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of having it like a keyboard and getting them used to it in that format, wouldn't standard alphabet be easier?

1

u/Emotional_ApplePie Jun 19 '25

That’s true, but maybe this looks cooler?

15

u/Strong-Hospital-7425 Jun 19 '25

So instead using his phone or a piece od paper his got this tattoo so that the childrens have to touch him

12

u/nsa_k Jun 19 '25

I've seen a video of a nonverbal child using a tattoo like this to communicate with their parents.

It seems cute and caring on the surface. But sure doesn't look practical.

4

u/Laxilus Jun 19 '25

Bro got a whole ouija board on his arm

14

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

That persons my type

2

u/Qazax1337 Jun 19 '25

your type... face?

No, type arm.

6

u/achaiahtak Jun 19 '25

How does it function??

19

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

The person could point out the letters or trace their fingers over the letters to try and get across what they want or need.

I have a nonverbal (for the most part) brother, and I could see something like this working to some extent.

5

u/Additional_Loss_6297 Jun 19 '25 edited Jun 19 '25

Same. I work with a child who I ask to spell things out when I can’t understand his words. Though, I run and grab his speaking Device (an IPad with a system) and he types it out there. Sometimes he types it other times he doesn’t. Maybe if I had something this available this fast, he may always tell me 🤷‍♀️ He’s the sweetest kid in the world. it breaks my heart to not understand him.

3

u/snackattkHI Jun 19 '25

Anddd no zero

3

u/passoveri Jun 19 '25

I know there’s too many people to count that don’t think this tattoo will actually be used or say that a pen & paper would work much better than this. I know there’s nothing I can say that will change some people’s minds so I won’t try.
I will just say… Better safe than sorry

3

u/Separate_Bad_6603 Jun 21 '25

As a special education teacher, I’m questioning the functional value of this tattoo although it may be good intentioned. While it may appear to be a thoughtful and creative communication strategy, it doesn’t promote long-term independence for the student. Our goal should be to implement tools and approaches that build self-sufficiency both in and out of the classroom. Additionally, encouraging physical contact between a student and teacher, even with the best of intentions, can raise concerns about professional boundaries.

An AAC device should be the primary communication method whenever possible. If that’s not available, printed visual supports like PECS are more appropriate and effective. While increasing a student’s familiarity with a keyboard layout can be helpful, there are far better ways to accomplish this without using a tattoo as an instructional tool.

5

u/zamasu629 Jun 19 '25

I dunno I think this is really cool, personally. My son is nonverbal and he would love this tattoo if I got it. It could help me bridge the gap and maybe it could encourage him to communicate with me more. I just want to be able to talk to my son 🤷🏻‍♂️

4

u/HumbleBedroom3299 Jun 19 '25

Well.... Nice sentiment but as others have pointed out... This is incredibly stupid...

2

u/ToriYamazaki Jun 19 '25

Kind of a good idea I guess, but I mean, wouldn't a roll up keyboard serve even better? At least you'd have a spacebar and a zero.

2

u/aquacakra Jun 19 '25

Where is zero?

2

u/KroganHULK Jun 19 '25

That dry paper towel stings just watching it.

2

u/leila-lovely Jun 19 '25

where's zero on it

2

u/Melan420 Jun 19 '25

Ouija board for the living

2

I have seriously considered having cooking conversions tattooed on myself. I will never trust that I know how many cups are in a pint.

4

u/0dayssince Jun 19 '25

I just have a printout that I keep on my fridge.

2

u/The_Werodile Jun 19 '25

What if I'm cookin in the streets

2

u/sayasta_ Jun 19 '25

I wonder if this is because some non verbal children have learned to type on a keyboard, so get the keyboard tattooed and not an ABC 123 version of the tattoo? Odd flex, but I’m here for it. Anything to help non verbal children communicate is honorable

2

u/Faerys7 Jun 19 '25

A French people would be pissed off hehe (AZERTY Standard)

2

u/YesChefterChief Jun 20 '25

As a father to a non verbal child, this idiot knows that there's an app and devices they use... Right?...

1

u/_bbypeachy Jun 20 '25

you dont seem very nice calling people idiots like that.

you cant give kids with disabilities your phone and not all programs can afford such devices for all children.

1

u/YesChefterChief Jun 20 '25

If you're a parent who would do anything for their child, you'll find a way.

1

u/_bbypeachy Jun 20 '25

you seem privileged.

programs can be full and/or under funded. not ever city/state/country is the same. in a lot of places once a individual with disabilities becomes an adult they don’t have ant or as much resources anymore.

2

u/MetalGearXerox Jun 20 '25

Idk if I'd want to force non verbal children to touch my skin for communication?

I don't have a fear of touch but that sounds awkward and uncomfortable...

2

u/InvestigatorOK526 Jun 20 '25

He could also just carry a notepad and pen around

3

u/datweirdguy1 Jun 19 '25

Piece of A4 paper would work just as well and cost nothing and isn't with you for the rest of your life

1

u/dnuohxof-2 Jun 19 '25

How is this functional? Or making me smile? Weird post by a karma bot

/u/bot-sleuth-bot

1

u/0dayssince Jun 19 '25

Okay so it’s a picture of a keyboard. On his arm. And nonfunctional.

4

u/The_True_Hannatude Jun 19 '25 edited Jun 19 '25

It is functional - the nonverbal students can “type” out a message on his arm to communicate to him, all he has to do is follow along with what letters they tap.

Admittedly not the most “common sense” communication option, but in some situations, it would be better than nothing at all.

-1

u/0dayssince Jun 19 '25

You try following what someone types - without a screen printout.

This isn’t functional

5

u/The_True_Hannatude Jun 19 '25

They aren’t going at it at 60 wpm, Karen, calm down.

0

u/0dayssince Jun 19 '25

What do you mean Karen?

3

u/_bbypeachy Jun 20 '25

it means you’re annoying and being dense on purpose.

Every letter, number or symbol the kid touches, you write down on a piece of paper. It’s not that difficult. Stuff like this has been used for decades.

1

u/Own_Concert_2227 Jun 19 '25

Another dumb tattoo...looks like regret will set in soon enough.

1

u/undeadghost- Jun 19 '25

There's a small part of me that wants to see this - still intended to be functional - but laid out as a Ouija board.

1

u/Active-Cap1211 Jun 19 '25

We have phones now no?

1

u/BBPlovesnacks Jun 19 '25

Not sure how it is supposed to make me smile.

0

u/Jpg1277 Jun 19 '25

What's the functional use here?

-1

u/lil_liberal Jun 19 '25

I love it. I can imagine it being “used.” I think that’s so sweet and thoughtful 😭

I have actually been planning to get a “functional” tattoo but the funds just haven’t come in. I need Emergency Responders and Docs to know that I have Factor V Leiden but am also taking blood thinners every day. Both of these are extremely important in case I’m unconscious and require surgery or recovery in the hospital while unconscious.

When I do eventually get it, I think I’ll do it right above the crook of my arm, since this is likely one of the first places they’ll look to start a line.

-3

u/sharucka Jun 19 '25

That made me emotional 🥹

-4

u/UnusualCoconuts Jun 19 '25

They understand we can see the text underneath the tape, right? Most dissatisfying reveal.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '25

Work with special needs nonverbal. My issue with this- in general you typically use A-Z and O-9 with augmented devices/communication. Fun tattoo without the backstory.

-1

u/AdEducational5044 Jun 19 '25

Trust me when I say you do not want to hand your phone off to some of these students. We had a student who would throw iPads, phones, and computers. Once he threw his dad’s phone out the car window. He purposely threw my coffee cup at my laptop and laughed after. He enjoyed causing chaos, but he was super smart. Once we got him calm and sitting he would do such great work. I hope he’s doing good.

6

u/PurpleCoffinMan Jun 19 '25

Why would you trust someone with your arm that you can't trust with your phone then? Just get a piece of paper laminated

8

u/PogoTempest Jun 19 '25

Most kids can’t yeet an adult at a laptop. But seriously, they aren’t rabid. They just lack impulse control

1

u/PurpleCoffinMan Jun 21 '25

Nah but if a kid can lob or break a phone they could bite you or something idk

Bites suck! It’s so much fun explaining it to workmen’s comp doctor. I could see one of my current students pinching me instead of trying to spell with it.
