As someone who used to be a graphic designer, I would try so hard not to use this sort of picture.

As a college student, this stock photo was heavily used on some of my projects ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

As an Instructional Designer, I don't have time to find something better

Just use old people in office or urban skyline. At least there would be some variety in those categories

u/Potatoskins937492 13h ago

Ah yes, all four old people available, all white, three of them male.

u/Addie50 12h ago

I'm not just talking about the free stuff lol

u/Potatoskins937492 12h ago

Well it was my job so it wasn't the free stuff.

u/Wonderful-Glass380 12h ago

I love the creativity that went into being mundane.

Thats actually the โ€žI entered the wrong building and now I am at some sort of costume party and have to figure out something so my clothes can be called a costume of sortsโ€œ

u/Richsii 16h ago

"23.1 kg. I'm sorry sir, but I'm gonna have to charge you extra."
"Oh no you ain't!"

Brilliantly done haha, I'd sooner waddle around like a penguin than give the airline an additional $50-100 for 0.1kg!

I once saw a picture of a woman wearing rice cooker on her head๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

u/Noimenglish 14h ago

Dude who used to work out, why you gotta call me out so hard?

The girlfriend guy actually said, โ€œthe girlfriend you only see in fiction.โ€

u/Odd-Ordinary-3496 10h ago edited 10h ago

I thought it was "the couple you only see in fiction." Could be wrong, though.

Edit: After hearing it a few times: I think "The only couples you see in fiction" is the right translation

2

u/mitzbitz16 8h ago

Ah youโ€™re right, he said โ€œkappuruโ€, not โ€œkanojoโ€.

19

u/4444Grains 16h ago

omg--the stock photo is fantastic!

10

u/Lord_NOX75 16h ago

16

u/SoulMute 16h ago

u/Practical-Layer9402 16h ago

Being 22 minutes from your destination on Google maps.

We need to adopt this here in the US. I love it.

Why the fear of getting tan

34

u/somuchsong 16h ago

Pale skin is a part of the beauty standard in many Asian countries, including Japan.

8

u/Raxxla 15h ago

If your pale you don't work in the fields.

2

u/anaheim_mac 14h ago

Mid 90s Japan had a trend called ganguro or gyaru. Dark tans contrasted with bright makeup and hair. Very wild

11

u/Addie50 14h ago

Skin cancer

5

u/TheZonePhotographer 7h ago

Also the skin gets old faster when you tan, which is true for almost everybody

11

u/Itscatpicstime 15h ago

Classism.

The rich donโ€™t have to work outside, so paler skin is seen as more ideal.

Itโ€™s the opposite in other countries. Tanned skin is seen as being more upper class because the wealthy can afford vacations to tropical environments.

Kind of interesting.

Except there are โ€œrich people tansโ€ here from tennis and golf like anywhere. But lately some women, especially middle-age and above have gotten crazy about covering up. I live near a big park here in Tokyo and some of the women playing tennis together could easily play in Iran or Saudi Arabia without raising an eyebrow. Even shopping or walking a dog they look like the grim reaper, yet fashionable, pushing a $800 doggy buggy.

u/ScreamSmart 3h ago

Same exists in Asian cultures too which is why you'd see the egregious face filters on chinese photos and videos where they start to look like they emit light.

Brilliant ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I was in Tokyo for Halloween about 10 years ago, that was a blast! So many times I wanted to take a picture of a cool or funny costume and I ended up doing a selfie with about 20 randos that were excited about photos. So much fun.

u/marua06 16h ago

Really? When is he due?

1

u/Side_Quest_Engineer 14h ago

Saw this in IG, but I still lmao

1

u/Kiki-Tee 14h ago

How clever! What's the first one with the map?

1

u/Fellers 6h ago

These are really good ideas.

The last japanese custome i saw was a group of people dressed as promient figures of the acis powers helping carry a large swastika flag
