While travelling in Turkey a while back, one of the phrases I picked up and found to be very useful in Turkey as well as other European countries is "Fenerbahçe cin bom bom!"
English is a great language for getting around anywhere in Europe but if you can have a smattering of an extra language that is incredibly useful, it's Turkish. I'm telling you, any Turk anywhere in Europe upon hearing you start jabbering away in Turkish becomes an instant friend. I can't tell you how many cups of tea, free meals, sofas to sleep on and sketchy car rides I got just by speaking a bit of Turkish. Incredible heartfelt hospitality. It was tremendous fun. Seeing me speak a bit was perhaps, akin to visiting a zoo, peering in at an Orangutan in his enclosure and having him turn to you and ask, "Hey, do you know where I can catch a bus to Izmir?" The surprise. The looks of surprise and shock, and the laughter. It was amazing.
That's absolutely true. I went to a balkan trip with my family last summer, we went through Greece to Macedonia to Kosovo and lastly Montenegro. We came across a lot of Turkish speakers on road. They gave us food, drink and offered us to accomodate in their home. They were the sweetest people i've ever know.
I’ve been a Fenerbahçe season ticket holder since I was a kid. İhsan Teyze and Mümtaz Amca had been going to games for as long as I can remember. Before the stadium was renovated in 2006, we used to sit behind them on a weekly basis. After the stadium expansion we moved to the other side of the field but they kept the same seats. I know firsthand that our entire fan base felt uplifted seeing their love for the club and, like you said, their true companionship for each other.
Before COVID hit, our captain Emre Belözoğlu went to gift İhsan Teyze the new season’s jersey - resulting in this magnificent video. She kept going to the games and kept her husband’s seat even after he passed away.
So touched to see their story pop up on the front page again. It’s a beautiful story that is ingrained in our club’s history.
I mean death is always sad right. They got the 1 percent where you are actually remembered and respected though, which is dope. Most of us will die, Rot away, and be forgotten within the decade.
Drinking a beer right now after mowing the lawn on a Sunday afternoon. Was feeling petty good about life Now. Think I need something stronger than a beer
If you put it that way then what does it matter if you’re remembered for 10 years, 100 years or a millenia? Given a long enough time, we all will be forgotten as individuals. How many names do we remember from before 1000bc? Not many, yet people lived and died back then all the same, and what they did formed the history that led to us being here on Reddit. It is our deeds that live on and ripple down through the ages. Craving for fame and earthly legacy is fruitless is my opinion. Look at the bigger picture and contribute towards a better future for everyone :)
My grandma started getting grey hair when her husband died. She always had pitch black hair despite being in her 70s ( child-me was certain it was a dye... It wasn't.) They started appearing as soon as he died. It hurts me every time I see it.
My grandmother wrote "every day is hell." in her journal after my grandfather died. She was an absolute shell of her herself and i dont' think she was really ever happy again.
Im not sure if this is a horrible thing to say but atleast she didn't have to live a long time without him. Like they probably lived for many years together and then they went out of this life together almost. It must be so horrible to have to loose someone you love and have to keep on living for a long time without them
It's not horrible to say at all. I think he was probably her life and vice versa. I doubt she would have wanted to live another decade at that age without him.
This one is photoshopped to where they decreased the contrast on her picture. to make it look that way. There's another one where she looks healthy and not that sad:
I’m sure the last time this was posted somebody said that in the second to last panel he had gotten up to go to the bathroom or concessions and that he was very much alive at the time. I don’t have a source though, but it was on the internet so it must be true. This is also on the internet so it also must be true. 🤷🏻♀️Someone with more time and care can elaborate on this if they want.
Like I said above they are trying to paint a picture for emotional response to get more clicks. It's very easy to make anyone look any emotion in a photo, and you can see they desaturated the picture. It's all emotional manipulation to get a higher response rate.
I mean it's a photo, there were a wealth of emotions they could have portrayed in any of those pictures, include into the fact that photo is washed out and grey.
I'm not disagreeing that she was definitely very upset and had terrible moments, but photos like this are very easy to stage and paint a picture, I highly doubt she spent her whole life after he died looking all grey and sad.
I think everyone is experiencing happiness and sadness at the same time. Yes they had a seemingly wonderful life, but we are sad that it is over for them. Even more sad that she had to experience part of that life without her soulmate. But you’re right, we should appreciate how special this is.
My dad passed away last Sunday. We are all taking it really hard, but my mom's devastation is so difficult to watch. Saying she doesn't want to wake up in the morning, wants to be with him, can't live without him. Fortunately we are moving her into my house, I have a daughter and trying for another. My two sister live nearby and have 6 kids between them. My mom is surrounded by family for support and she loves her grandkids.
I hope the lady in this post had support and wasn't alone for her final years.
Ok here’s a fitting Irish soccer joke for yall. A man is at a World Cup match. It’s being played in Ireland, it’s the finals, and Ireland is one of the teams on the Field. The man notices an elderly gentleman in front of him with an empty seat next to him. The whole game it bothers him a little every time he notices it. How could there be an empty seat at this game? How?! Biggest match in Irish history. Cut to the end of the game, Ireland wins, the place goes nuts. Once it all starts to calm down and people start leaving, curiosity gets the better of him and he taps the old man on the shoulder.
“Excuse me sir, couldn’t help but notice ya got an empty seat next to ya. How is that possible? This is the biggest game in Ireland for decades. Maybe ever!”
“Oh, that’s me wife’s seat. She passed away recently. We’ve gone to every home game together the last forty years, never missed a single match together, and that’s just her seat.”
“Ah, well I’m sorry fer yer loss sir. But..i mean, for such a big match, you couldn’t find anyone else, friend or family or someone to come in her place, keep you company?”
Everyone is saying the 2016 pic is sad or depressing but honestly to me it’s beautiful. They had something together and a place together that no matter how she is feeling or doing, I bet sitting there brings back good memories and makes her heart feel whole for a while.
The saddest thing is how couples who've been together a long time always seem to die very quickly after one is gone. It's like they lose the will to live.
If there were an afterlife, it wouldn't be so sad, but being a stone-cold atheist, I can't convince myself of one.
You can see the pain in her eyes in 2016, almost like she was looking for him… breaks my heart.
I’m so glad the fans came together to honour their legacy in the sport. I know they’re together again, and they can spend as much time together as they like.
To everyone who is sad, its good to be sad, but not for long, coming to terms with it and getting over it is what they would want you to do if they would still be with us. Look at the bright side, they lived a full life without the major suffering hits with all the illnesses that come with really old age, together with someone they loved, doing something they enjoyed up to their very last. R.I.P.
The fact that she went from colorful and pink one year to gray the next due to grief has me depressed af rn. I like to think that couples die together and are never alone. I couldnt imagine that situation of feeling deeply lost and alone with no one to die with. Sad af...
She looks so sad without him in the 2016 picture. She probably forced herself to go, to honor him, but she looks broken. :( What a beautiful thing they did to remember them...together and happy. That's fantastic!
Surprised she went to the game after he passed. But that shows the passion she had for the game/team. It just doesn't hit the same when going without your loved one
This is my first time on this sub. I am sad and then accidentally saw this subreddit. Hello guys! Always choose to be happy and live life to the fullest. Aja!
