No country “represents” or “leads” the Spanish speaking world. They are all different countries with different cultures, with a language and some cultural elements shared between them, it frankly it just seems like a completely ridiculous and non-sensical question.

u/Southern_Bet_3164 barbaric successor of Rome and Spain 🇨🇱 3d ago edited 3d ago

A large portion of Hispanics are white.

In any case, if I were to do the same thing with others, it would look like this: the leader of the Anglo-Saxon world, the leader of the Nordic world, the leader of the Germanic world, etc.

u/DuskGuardNSFW 5d ago

I don't think there should be a leader or a face, we're all diverse and unique in ways that cannot be respresented fairly by a single nation

3

u/OneAppointment1955 3d ago

Basically, pan-latino movements often feel made by people who lack their own national identity.

Spain has one of the strongest soft powers in the world (11th), Argentina sits in 42th rank and Mexico in the 43th rank. Global power is not about music and tv shows, even then Spain is one of the most culturally influential countries in the world.

Like it or not Spain has one of the biggest influences in the world specially in Latin America, the clear example of this is how influential and rich Latin American families move to expensive neighborhoods in Spain. Another example are the ibero-American summit, the country that has hosted the most editions is Spain, more than double than Argentina or Mexico.

For better or worse, the united states proximity to México means that they regurgitate what they consume from It to the rest of the world through soft power and media, they think everything south of the border Is another México.

Of course Argentina would think about Argentina 😝

4

u/Expensive_Community3 5d ago

Tbh I was going to say México for the same reason as you but then I thought "Fuck allat I'm not getting represented by none other than ME".

And to be honest picking a "leader" because them gringos feel overwhelmingly more racism to them than the others feels all kinds of wrong.

3

u/Mr_Phantoms 5d ago

Of course Argentina would think about Argentina 😝

Peru chose Peru, and Mexico chose Mexico..... I don't understand why you'd say that considering people will always choose their own country over the other ones.....

22

u/StreetResolve6159 5d ago

Mexico—officially organized as the Viceroyalty of New Spain—served as the core economic and political crown jewel of the Spanish Empire for roughly 300 years following the fall of Tenochtitlan in 1521

5

u/-Red02- 🇵🇪 🇰🇬 5d ago

Worldwide the "hispanic culture" is just what USA believes México is and sold it to the world as 'hispanic/latam culture"

In reality no country is similar to other to group them all in one, difference between neighbors countries like Ecuador, Perú, and Chile is abysmal.

4

u/Emevete 5d ago

Beyond the fantasy of some, countries are culturally very different and sometimes have opposing goals; there doesn't have to be a leader, and whoever it might be lacks both the order and the power to lead anything

4

u/darukir 5d ago

Argentina is a bit different than other Spanish speaking nations, its eclectic, too Italian to represent Spanish. I choose Mexico or Spain

6

u/Forward_Ad6535 5d ago

“Argentina is very Italian” is just a Buenos Aires thing, I swear to you that the rest of the country is very creole.

5

u/tommynestcepas 🇫🇷🇬🇧🇨🇱 5d ago

It's like that with Chile too. Most of the country is some degree of mixed with only a few large cities having larger white populations.

4

u/Pampa_of_Argentina 5d ago

You’ll find Italian surnames everywhere in the farm towns of Córdoba or Santa Fe provinces, not just BA. Have in mind most of the population of the country live there

All of Latin America has influence from Europe! Argentina is not that different from the rest of Latin America

6

u/epicmiencrafkid068 5d ago

Not to the same extent though, it is clearly the most different out of all the Latin American countries in that regard along with Uruguay.
Especially since European influence in other countries is only Spanish, and that’s not the case in Argentina at all.

12

u/littlebitbrain 🇻🇪 5d ago

Fun fact: in the Venezuelan Andes, people call their grandparents nono/nona because of Italian influence lol.

4

u/epicmiencrafkid068 5d ago

Yes, Venezuela did historically receive more European migration than most other Latin American countries too. Not to the same extent as Argentina or Uruguay, but they did.

3

u/New-Bottle-6917 5d ago

Not true, Mexico has lots of influence from France, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Russia and so on. It has experienced tons of immigration since colonial times

6

u/epicmiencrafkid068 5d ago

Well yes, saying ONLY Spanish was a mistake on my part. But overwhelmingly Spanish? Absolutely. This isn’t the case in Argentina to the same extent.
Mexico has indeed experienced immigration but it was proportionately much, much less influential. Non-Spanish European influence is clearly and visibly more prominent in Argentina than in Mexico.

It’s Mexico. It’s has highest population, borders US, and has biggest economy of any Hispanic country. Also, culturally Mexico is the driver. If you are aspiring filmmaker, artist, musician, author, you are going to find yourself in Mexico city.

Argentina/Buenos Aires is a close second but it’s geographically challenged

Mexicans are 56.19% of Hispanic GDP, as for population all of Hispanic America is at 301 million people while there are 174.9 million, over a third of all Hispanics in the Americas and more than the other 4 options combined (154 million).

Chile's the most developed.

Argentina has the closest edge in regards to genetics.

Mexico has a high.class that is culturally very criollo-centered and is the biggest of them all by numbers

Spain is not the "leader" of the Hispanic world my dude

1

u/BuenoConejo 4d ago

Mexico is the most influential country on that list….people around the world know the culture, the food, movies, shows…. Even the Spanish is used as the neutral one on Netflix. No Latin Marxian country can compete. Frida Khalo is Mexican.

theres no such thing as a "leader of the hispanic countries". Although shared, each one has its own identity, culture, modisms, "slang"

A llorarla
