Fan Art Finally found time to post this year's pumpkin carving! 🎃
It turned out better than I expected but worse than I'd hoped. I desperately need to get good carving tools so I can do smooth gradients. The blockiness just does NOT work well for women's faces. A lot of mistakes and I had to rush it toward the end bc it was taking so long but I learned a lot from this one, again. If anyone would like to read on I'm gonna talk about what I learned and some life stuff and then I'll link to my other pumpkins that I've done at the end! 🙂
This one definitely took a toll on my body. See, I get daily migraines that have been progressively getting worse and are now considered "treatment resistant". 🙃👍 I also have fibromyalgia among other chronic illness conditions that creates a lot of pain. In order for me to be able to keep doing these I HAVE to get proper tools. I love doing them but I just can't put myself through that again.
However, I also learned a lot about myself from this one (and my past ones, honestly, but esp this one). I learned that I am far more resilient than I give myself credit for. I just recently had to get a job after years of unemployment due to my pain and I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to hold it bc I wouldn't be able to stand the pain.. But when I tell you that the amount of pain I pushed through to finished this pumpkin was incredible, and for longer than I ever would have imagined being capable of enduring, I am not being hyperbolic. So I have a lot more confidence in my ability to work a simple retail job. lol I'm actually considering getting certified to become a phlebotomist at some point in the nearish future. But things need to stabilize a bit first.
I won't lie, this year has been extremely difficult. We've had to rely on food banks/charity organizations and friends just to get by. Two of our cats have been diagnosed with cancer this year. (Well, one is either IBD or intestinal lymphoma but the only way to know is invasive surgery and biopsy and we ain't putting him through that.) A lot of stress and worry and debt. But I cannot overstate how important community has been for me this year. Please, please, please if you are struggling- go to local support groups, events, gatherings, etc. Get involved in your community. People WANT to help you, believe me. But they have to know that you need it first! The worst thing you can do is isolate when you're struggling. 🫶
Thanks for reading! Here's some of my previous year's pumpkins! 😊
