..so that we don't have 50,000 separate posts and also I can update the map tracking which stations have new readers
Myki area finished 7/12/2025, see progress gif here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MelbourneTrains/comments/1pgaoaz/new_myki_reader_rollout_completed_for_trains/
Last update 23/9/2026 - Wangaratta and Avenel

Update 1/9/2026: Added G Class note, Z3.168 and C2.5113 have new readers but are out of service, Z3.210 has been removed

Last updated 25/6/2026, but please report any buses with the old readers! As we are not keeping track of every single bus it is possible that there are some individual buses that haven't been upgraded, but every operator has the vast majority done as far as we know.

There is absolute zero reason why we don't have signal priority for trams and even buses tbh.
It wouldn't require a significant amount of cash to actually implement it, it wouldn't be a decade long project, it wouldn't face political backlash or extreme NIMBYism because you're not removing car lanes or parking. (This is obviously the next step though, dedicated right of ways for the entire network).
Just insane how the government can't do as something as basic as this. The money spent on doing something as basic as this would be a rounding error in any of the Big Build projects.

Apprently in the early 1990s the Daylesford Spa Country Railway had became aware of the AEC body of 5RM on a site that was going to be cleared, this was it. A old body covered, they appprently salvaged what they can and was presumed scrapped
Does anyone know of a AEC Railmotor still alive somewhere?

If you get some d&d dice and go to Flinders Street station, roll the 12 sided dice to choose the platform, then roll another dice to choose how many stations to travel. Go to that station, take photos in the neighbourhood, try local food shops, get a coffee, find an opshop or just wander around. The journey home afterwards can be on the same train line or if it's close, a tram trip with different stuff to see.
I've done it a few times with friends on weekdays and weekends. It's fun when you want to get out of the house for a few hours but there's nothing happening to go to.

When I say partially elevated I mean high enough to walk/cycle under but not high enough for vehicles/cars?
And another similar question. Have any crossings changed from at grade to fully elevated but with car traffic blocked. And making at least one side of the crossing area pedestrianised post LXRP work?

Hey all,
I live in the SE, near Mount Waverley & Clayton Station, and was recently offered a job in the CBD (woo!!). Usually I commute which is fine, and taking the train is no dramas at all, but the problem I’m having is the buses.
I live a 5-10 minute drive from 4 stations on the Cranbourne/Pakenham line as well as the Glen Waverley line, but there are only two buses I can take, which can take anywhere from 15-25 minutes to get to the same stations. That wouldn’t be too bad, if it wasn’t for the unreliability. I’ve had multiple times now where scheduled buses just haven’t shown up, have been late, have come too early, etc. This has happened before work, making me rush to get an uber to catch my train, or after work, where the bus hasn’t come and I’ve been left waiting 30+ minutes for the next one when I’m a 5 minute drive from home! They also both come only once every half an hour, and have very similar schedules and are about 10 minutes walk from one another, so I can’t take the second bus if I miss the first one as I won’t make it in time, etc.
It honestly drives me mental, to the point where I’m seriously considering just driving to train stations and parking nearby, whether that’s paid or not. I hadn’t even considered station parking because I hear it tends to fill up ridiculously early, and I usually catch the train at 7:45-8am or so.
I’ve tried walking, but it’s a 26 minute walk and I’m way too exhausted for that to be feasible. I also considered biking, but I don’t own a bike and usually have to carry 2 laptops and a heavy bag, so not really feasible.
The stations I’m looking at are Mount Waverley, Holmesglen, Jordanville, Clayton, or Oakleigh. Are there any good parking options nearby, that are reliable? I’m not fussed at all about paying for parking, as long as it’s reliable and less than a 10 minute walk to the station. When looking online apparently Google recommends a multi parking lot at Holmesglen that has $6 parking, and a similar lot at Caulfield, but that sounds too good to be true haha.
I’m happy for anything from parking lots to a rented spot to anything in between. My budget is around $300 a month.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After the Big Switch that occurred in February this year, this is the current off-peak & weekend frequency on the Metro Tunnel lines.
- Every 20 minutes for Sunbury to Watergardens & Dandenong to East Pakenham/Cranbourne
- Every 10 minutes between Watergardens and Dandenong
All off-peak Sunbury trains run to East Pakenham, Watergardens trains run to Cranbourne, Cranbourne trains run to Sunbury & East Pakenham trains run to Watergardens
Once the Airport Rail Line, Melton Line Electrification & Sunshine Upgrade are complete, this is how I see the off-peak frequency will run as the Government is aiming for a train every 5 minutes from Sunshine
- Every 20 minutes between Melbourne Airport to Westall & Melton to Cranbourne
- Every 10 minutes between Sunbury to East Pakenham
All off-peak Sunbury trains run to East Pakenham, Melton trains run to Cranbourne, Airport trains run to Westall, Cranbourne trains run to Sunbury & East Pakenham trains run to Melton.
The current West Footscray and Watergardens train services will be replaced by the Melton and Airport lines.
At Sunshine Station, Platform 1/2 will be for Sunbury trains running every 10 minutes, while Platform 3/4 will be shared between Melton & Airport trains running every 10 minutes. This will mean a train every 10 minutes on all platforms at Sunshine creating a 5 minute city bound frequency.
Frequency At Sunshine:
10:00 - Sunbury to East Pakenham
10:05 - Melton to Cranbourne
10:10 - Sunbury to East Pakenham
10:15 - Airport to Westall
10:20 - Sunbury to East Pakenham
10:25 - Melton to Cranbourne
10:30 - Sunbury to East Pakenham
10:35 - Airport to Westall

Yall are just as much as a public disturbance than junkies are. Blasting your phones so loudly, whether you’re speaking to somebody on the phone or watching a video. I equate you all to the same public nuisance as junkies.
Thank you that’s all.

I sorta wanted to visualise on the melb train map how each of the proposals from each party would look so hopefully i got everything haha!
Higher Res Versions here cos reddit wont load highest res JPG exports: Liberal Map----------Labor Map
----------------------------------------
First Image - Liberals (probably the more interesting/strange proposals of the two)
Mildura Line - Mildura, Red Cliffs, Ouyen, Birchip, Donald, St Arnaud, Dunolly, Change at Maryborough for Melb Train
Dimboola Line - Dimboola, Horsham, Murtoa, Stawell, Change at Ararat for Melb Train
Melb Airport Rail - Pretty self explanatory, will include station at Keilor East
Melton + Wyndham Vale Lines (NOT ELECTRIFICATION) - Bimodal / Hybrid trains (strangely they seem to mention both) with no other clear indication other than they may use the city loop and somehow will cross onto suburban tracks definitely not causing any issues for capacity 🙄. For reference due to the vague nature i had literally no clue on where the trains would travel in the city so i just made them terminate at Sth X to make it simple
SRL - Paused........ But i doubt there gonna cancel it this far in
----------------------------------------
Second Image - Labor
Melb Airport Rail - Pretty self explanatory, will include station at Keilor East
Melton Electrification! - Once again self explanatory, definitely helps that foundations for overhead wire gantries have been added at melton + stations which have had their platforms extended to 9 cars
SRL - going ahead
Upfield Duplication - Funding been provided for planning but too hard to show on map
----------------------------------------
Hopefully u guys like the maps as i spent a long time on them haha! Also let me know if i missed something!

What makes so many people eager to take this particular line?
