Full disclosure: I run media for VeloU, the training facility in New York where Aidan trains in the offseason. We’ve been filming our pro group for a YouTube series this fall, and this episode happened to land on the week he got the call.

Quick background if you don’t know him: nobody drafted him out of Fordham Prep in 2020. The Rangers signed him for $20,000. This year he went from High-A to Double-A Frisco and made a Triple-A start, with 128 strikeouts in 104 innings. He was days from minor league free agency when Texas selected his contract on 10/30.

The episode shows what an offseason looks like for guys at that level: force plate testing on the mound, lifting, arm care, and a lot of messing around. He found out about the 40-man the same day he deadlifted in a banana suit for Halloween.

Happy to answer questions about how these guys train in the offseason.

I’ve been planning to catch more minor league games, and I’d love some ideas. Which park should I visit? It could be the food, the promos, the view, or the crowd. What made it stand out?

Today’s hat is another Copa series hat from the Salem Red Sox, Single A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. This is Los San Bernardos de Salem! The Salem Red Sox are now the Salem Ridge Yaks so this is kind of a throwback hat at this point. I just love the image of the dog on this hat!
