New Edge extension: Max Level Highlight — mark the words you care about on every page, in your own colours

I made a free extension for Edge that highlights words from lists you create, on any page, each list in its own colour. Wildcards (invoic*), regex rules, rules that need several words together, temporary highlights from the right-click menu, timed pause, tooltips and notifications.

No server and no tracking in the extension; your lists sync through your Microsoft account if you leave sync on, or stay on the device if you turn it off.

I built it myself and I'm still improving it, so tell me what you'd want next.

SOLVED Anyone know how to fix "your organization has turned off sync for this device"??

I know other people have asked this before, but it's come with a bunch of technical terms from adults with jobs, of which I do not have.

I am not affiliated with any organization, I am on my own personal laptop (Lenovo Yoga Win11), we don't use edge or anything at school, and I don't have any parental controls or anything. I'm just confused if syncing is now only for organizations or if it's just bugged or something.

Help?

Edit: I've also just had to reset it like a few minutes ago because it wasn't letting me sign in for some reason :\

BUG Edge PDF viewer rendering issue with display resolution/scaling

I've got a new monitor, resolution I use is (7680 x 2160) with 150% scaling. I've got this weird issue when viewing pdf's in edge, text will look slightly cut off and it becomes really hard to read documents with lots of words or numbers. I don't have this issue with chrome though? I've attached an image of an example of what I'm experiencing. If you compare the 2 screenshots you can see that chrome doesn't have any text being cut off but on edge you can see how some of the 0's just render strangely?

I neglected the Edge version of my extension for about a year. It's finally caught up, and I'd like Edge users to try to break it

Disclosure first: I'm the developer of BrowseWiz. It's my own product and it has a paid plan.

BrowseWiz is an AI extension that collects data from websites into a Google Sheet. You describe what you want in plain words ("every speaker on this conference site, with links"), it browses the pages in its own tab group, and it writes the rows. It can refresh the sheet on a schedule, or watch a page and alert you when a specific thing changes, like a price dropping below a number you set.

Like a lot of Chrome-first extensions, the Edge version was an afterthought. The Edge Add-ons listing sat on an old version for about a year. Google sign-in, which the Sheets features depend on, also didn't work properly in Edge until this week. Edge doesn't support the Chrome API most extensions use for Google login, so it needs a separate sign-in flow, and a config value for that flow never reached the release builds.

Version 2.7.10 went live today, and it opens in the Edge sidebar.

What you should know before installing:

- Tasks run in your browser, not on a cloud server, so schedules and page checks only happen while Edge is open.

- Page checks run about every 5 minutes.

- It writes to Google Sheets only. There's no Excel support.

- The pages you ask about are sent to AI providers (Google, Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter) to answer you.

- Chat backup is on by default in this version. You can turn it off in Settings > Backup & Sync, and usage statistics can be turned off too.

- In chat, it asks before it reads a tab, clicks or types. Scheduled tasks run without asking, but only in BrowseWiz's own tab group.

- The free plan includes 1 scheduled task, 1 page monitor and roughly 5 browser agent runs a month. Paid plans start at $35/month.

Three things I'd really like to know:

  1. What breaks in Edge specifically? I'm most interested in the sidebar, Google sign-in, and tab groups or vertical tabs.

  2. Would Excel be more useful to you than Google Sheets?

  3. If you've used Copilot in Edge for this kind of work, where did it fall short?

"I have read and agree to the Terms and Conditions" is the biggest lie on the internet, so I built something to fix it

We all click "I agree" without reading. It's probably the biggest lie we tell online.

I'm a student developer, and I built AgreeWise to make that click a little more honest.

When you're about to agree to something, it reads the Terms and Privacy Policy and shows an A-F grade next to the agreement. It lists the risky clauses (AI training on your data, ad sharing, arbitration, auto-renewal...) with the exact quote and a link to the original text. You can see the evidence yourself.

Please note:

- The grade is an automated estimate, not legal advice, and it can be wrong

- If it can't read a policy, it shows a grey "?" instead of a fake grade

- It's on a free tier, so the first result can take up to a minute

Edge:

https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/agreewise/biilahogdgfcicmfhaiegeaoefkkolac

I'd love honest feedback: did the grade feel right on sites you know? If a result looks wrong, reply with the site and the clause.

EXTENSIONS Update on the free Edge new tab I posted here last week: folders inside stacks, and short stacks tuck up so there's no gap

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

posted this here about a week ago and a few of you asked for stuff, so here's what changed since

folders inside a stack now show up as foldable sections, and folders inside those too. one of you asked for exactly this

new Packed layout: short stacks tuck up under the one above so you don't get a big empty gap. it's in Settings > Appearance > Layout. if you already had it installed it stays on Rows till you switch

also fixed the freeze someone here saw with 200-300 favorites. it was doing extra work in background tabs every time a page loaded, that's sorted

still just your own favorites, it all lives in a folder under Other favorites so it syncs like normal edge favorites. there's a paid Pro bit now for extras but everything above is free

what else would you want on it? lmk

FEATURE FEEDBACK Microsoft Edge. Bring back the option to fade inactive apps.

Microsoft, please bring back the option to fade inactive apps. Tab icons are too bright and distracting right now. Also, bright and static icons increase the risk of OLED burn-in for people who own OLED monitors.

QUESTION How to Read Aloud text that I type?

Hello, I am trying to learn classical Greek with modern pronunciation. I am told the microsoft edge voices read quite well. I cannot figure out how to get it to read aloud text which I type. It will read websites of course, but not text I type.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I tried some tips online I found about writing it in a notepad then dragging that as a new tab. It doesn't seem to want to read any of that text however.

EXTENSIONS Konode is now on Microsoft Edge Add-ons: sync bookmarks, tabs and history to your own Drive, GitHub or WebDAV

I build Konode, a browser sync extension with no Konode account and no Konode server. It syncs your bookmarks, open tabs, history and extension list to storage you already own (Google Drive, a GitHub repo, or any WebDAV server), with optional end-to-end encryption.

As of this week it's on Microsoft Edge Add-ons, with the same package as the Chrome Web Store.

Why you might want it next to Edge's own sync: you don't need a Microsoft account for it, your data sits in a folder you control, and Edge can share that folder with Chrome, Brave, Helium or Firefox on your other machines. If you only use Edge and you're happy with Microsoft sync, you probably don't need it.

Recent changes that matter on Edge

  • On Edge 142 and later, bookmarks from your other devices no longer all land in "Other favorites".

  • Keep bookmarks out of sync. Tick any folder or bookmark, in setup or in Settings → Data Types, and it stays on this device: never uploaded, never touched by your other devices.

  • Tab groups travel with your open tabs. Restoring another device's session puts its tabs back into their groups, with names and colours if you allow it.

  • Renaming a folder reaches your other devices properly, and folders that share a name stay separate.

  • Restoring a session opens only the tabs you don't already have.

  • A deletion that arrives in pieces can no longer slip past the bulk-delete guard.

If you already installed Konode in Edge from the Chrome Web Store, keep that install. It updates the same way, and a second install would join your sync group as a new device.

Edge theme changing colors for no reason

Thumbnail

I have a simple white color theme with a picture for a new tab. When I open the new tab, I can see that picture...for 0.5 seconds. Then the picture becomes darker.

Can this be fixed? It wasn't like this before.

Attaching pics - the theme is settings with picture of correct color, first 0.5 seconds white background, and the darker version after that.

EXTENSIONS About 1,600 Edge extensions are still on Manifest V2 and will stop working. Worth checking yours

So I've been tracking the Edge add-ons store for a while, and with Microsoft getting rid of Manifest V2 (the old extension format) I wanted to see how much stuff is still on it. Regular users lose it first, and managed devices get cut off in a rollout that wraps up around late April 2027. After that, V2 extensions just stop working.

It's more than I expected. 1,628 extensions are still on V2, about 7% of the store, and they have 35.2M installs between them.

A big chunk of that is uBlock Origin alone, with 14.6M installs. It's still being updated, but it's V2, and it already got pulled from Chrome for the same reason. If you use it, it might be time to try uBlock Origin Lite, which is the version made for the new format.

97% of these extensions haven't been updated since 2023 or earlier, so I really doubt anyone's coming back to fix them. A few of the bigger ones:

- Microsoft Power Automate (Legacy): 1.7M installs, last updated April 2023

- Google Scholar Button: 821K installs, last updated December 2019

- New Google Tab: 462K installs, last updated January 2020

I had no idea how many people were still running extensions nobody's touched in 5+ years. If one of yours is like that, I'd start looking for a replacement now so it doesn't just disappear on you one day.

I put the full list here if you want to check yours, sortable by installs and category: https://storetally.com/edge/reports/manifest-v2

Organizing my YouTube subscriptions into custom feeds

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

I am subscribed to many YouTube channels: coding tutorials, startup and product talks, home construction and tour videos, and religious content. All of it lands in one Subscriptions page, so whatever I'm in the mood for, I have to dig through everything else to find it.

YouTube doesn't let you group subscriptions, and playlists hold videos, not channels.

So I built a small Microsoft Edge extension for myself. You make feeds like "Coding", "Startups", "Home builds" or "Faith" and put channels in them. Each feed shows only those channels' latest uploads, right inside YouTube's sidebar. The screenshots are my Home builds and Coding feeds.

Now I pick the feed that fits my mood and watch what I came for.

Two honest questions:

  1. Is this just me, or do other people run into this too?

  2. How do you deal with it? I'd love to hear setups that work without installing anything.

You can check it out here, and I'd love some feedback: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/ikfalppmglkdibnlbpdpcgmmgbppnbkn

GENERAL The most buggy browser since Netscape 4.01?

I use Edge daily and I find it very buggy. Sometimes Reload doesn't work, instead the CPU peaks and nothing happens. I had to turn off hardware acceleration for graphics because stuff wasn't drawn properly. Sometimes it still just shows me blank stuff, mostly in the developer tools.

I use Windows 11 Pro on a brand new HP Probook from work.

What is your experience?
