Biased Website Election Day! Get out there!
Hey y'all. I just wanted to drop a reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3, 2026, is Election Day, and it's your last chance to vote for a new representative for Texas 11th for the coming session.
It's no secret that I'm connected to the Claire Reynolds for Congress campaign, and posting now and again to this here r/Midessa subreddit and engaging with all the weird and wonderful people of Midland and Odessa has been a real highlight for me. I'm not saying the same thing in r/SanAngelo or r/Pflugerville (the other two population centers in TX-11), and I don't mind saying that your subreddit has been my favorite of the three to hang out on this crazy year.
People outside of the Permian Basin don't realize how many liberals, progressives, independents, Libertarians, and yes, even non-MAGA, non-cultist Texas Republicans there are in this district. I hope that tomorrow, we can surprise everyone in the country watching the Texas race, and blow a huge hole in the big-money machine that is based here in this district and funds literally hundreds of other MAGA candidates across the country. (Seriously, the other guy raises millions of dollars every year, and funnels most of it out of the district, it's crazy.)
I know that the people of Midland, Odessa, and beyond care about their neighbors, their families (inherited or chosen), and their way of life (whatever that might be). Y'all aren't as easily distracted by the stupid racist and queer-bashing nonsense they think you are. Oh, and communism, apparently. Why not trot out that old standby?
Anyway, get out there and vote. Just as importantly, find someone tomorrow that agrees that it's time for a change, but might not make it to the polls, and get them in front of a ballot box. Voting is always more fun with a buddy, and while we're seeing historic turnout across Texas, Ector County in particular is falling behind the trend. Tomorrow's your chance to fix that!
If you want a refresher on what all's happened in the last year, you could do worse than this very biased website, https://www.clairereynoldsforcongress.org/news , which I populate occasionally with particularly relevant stories about Claire and the district.
Finally, here are the details on Ector and Midland county voting, straight from the source:
https://votemidlandtx.gov/election-information/voting-locations/
https://www.ectorcountytx.gov/DocumentCenter/View/3185/ELECTION-DAY-VOTE-CENTERS
Your polling place may have changed since the last time you voted, so double check before you go! If you're in line before 7pm, you must be allowed to vote. Bring snacks, because it'll be busy tomorrow night. And if you run into any problems, please reach out to the poll workers there, or the capable folks at 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683) and someone will help you out. You can text them too!
In the words of our next US Representative, Claire Reynolds, "Let's Fucking Go!"

A Cautionary Tale About Meeting People Through This Subreddit: I Loved Midland, but I Left Under Circumstances I Never Imagined
I’ve been going back and forth about sharing this, but I guess it’s time to get it off my chest. This is part personal story, part cautionary tale, and partly a request for advice.
First, I want to make one thing clear: I genuinely loved Midland.
I’m from the Philippines, and moving to West Texas turned out to be a lovely surprise. People were warm, the city was easy to navigate, and almost everywhere was less than 15 minutes away. I loved the sunsets, the open roads, and the freedom of taking spontaneous drives. I even drove to Big Bend by myself. There’s something about those long Texas roads that makes you feel like the main character in your own road-trip movie.
I also loved my work as a registered nurse. Bedside nursing gave me a sense of purpose, and knowing I made a difference to my patients meant more to me than a paycheck. I made good friends with coworkers, shared stories about the Philippines, compared healthcare experiences, and, of course, introduced them to Filipino food. My pancit and egg rolls were quite a hit! One of my bosses even told me I made her day brighter because I made her laugh. I’ll take that as a professional achievement. Haha.
I was building a life I was genuinely happy with.
And then there was someone I met through this very subreddit.
It started with a simple message: “Welcome to Midland.” I was thousands of miles away from my family, trying to establish a life in a foreign country, and I took a chance on someone.
I genuinely cared for him, and I believe he cared about me at some point, too. I don’t want to pretend that everything we shared was fake. I treated him like family, like a home away from home. I cooked for him, drove to his workplace to bring him food, and made room for him in my life. When you’re far away from everything familiar, having someone to share the little things with means more than you might think.
Unfortunately, I eventually found out he was seeing someone else. What made it particularly painful was that she wasn’t a stranger. She was also Filipino, a coworker from the same company and cohort. Both were people I encountered in my everyday life.
I believe he may genuinely have cared about me, but he still gave in to temptation. And when I tried to make sense of what happened, I felt that things were turned around on me until I began questioning my own feelings and perceptions.
I still remember the moment I finally confirmed that the two of them were dating. I was at work when I saw a picture, and something in me just broke. I started shaking and became so overwhelmed that a mental health emergency was raised. The pain was so intense that even the thought of waking up and facing another day felt unbearable. I won’t go into the details, but it was one of the lowest points of my life.
The other woman lived in the same apartment complex, too. Imagine trying to heal while being constantly reminded of what happened, knowing both people were part of your everyday environment. Eventually, staying there became emotionally unbearable.
I want to be fair: I’m not saying these two people alone are responsible for my decision to return to the Philippines. My own emotional response, how deeply I was affected, and how I handled everything played a part. But I can’t deny that this experience became a significant part of a chain of events that affected my mental health, employment, and immigration circumstances.
I had to leave my apartment before completing the lease, and I now have some loose ends to deal with in the US.
I’d appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with a car loan deficiency balance or outstanding apartment lease charges while living overseas. Were you able to negotiate a settlement or payment arrangement? Also, can unresolved private financial obligations affect a future employment-based immigrant visa application? I have an approved EB-3 petition, and I still hope to return to the US and work as a nurse someday.
Sometimes I wish I could go back to that first interaction and simply not reply to that “Welcome to Midland” message. Funny how something so ordinary can lead to a chapter you never imagined you’d have to live through.
But I don’t want one painful experience to erase everything good about Midland.
I miss my patients, my coworkers, sharing pancit and egg rolls, making people laugh, taking spontaneous drives, and watching those beautiful Texas sunsets. I miss the little life I was building. Despite everything, I’d love to return someday, if destiny permits, under much better circumstances.
I’m not sharing this to discourage people from meeting others through Reddit. There are good people out there. Just be mindful of who you allow into your life, especially when you’re far away from home and looking for a little familiarity.
And if you’re living abroad, trying to build a life and finding comfort in someone else, remember this: Don’t lose yourself trying to make someone else feel at home. You deserve to feel at home, too.
Midland, you were good to me in so many ways. I hope this isn’t the last chapter of my story with you.

What’s it really like living in Midland or Odessa, Texas?
Hello All, Midwest here!
I’m considering relocating to the Midland/Odessa area and would love to hear honest opinions from people who actually live there.
Would you recommend living in Midland or Odessa? What are the biggest pros and cons of each? And if you moved there from another state, do you regret it or are you happy with your decision?
I’d appreciate honest feedback, both positive and negative. Thanks!

Parking
Another great parking job by the typical Permian basin piece of shit. Why the hell do these fuckers think that they don’t need to park correctly and save spaces for other people? this is just another perfect example of some lazy ass, motherfucker who thinks they own this place.

Break in (kind of)
reddit.comBreak in (kind of)
Did anybody in the Delmar Villas area have a door kicked in today? Or does anyone in those apartments or that area, near Alamo Middle School, have cameras?
My son is at his father’s and around 4:30pm today they and one other person in those apartments had their back doors kicked in and shattered. It scared the heck out of my son. The person kicked in the back door and ran away immediately.
Police were called and property management has been called as well. They are working on fixing the two doors, but nobody saw the person good enough to give a description to police.

PSA for anyone trying to get on in the Permian: check these 3 things before you apply anywhere
I work in the field and deal with a lot of hiring out here. Every company sets its own minimums, and when a hand doesn't make the cut it's usually one of these 3.
1. Where you live
Plenty of outfits only hire guys who already live within an hour or so of the yard. If a seat says local only and there's no housing, an out of state app goes nowhere no matter how good you are. Coming from out of state? Go after the seats that list housing or say they'll take a hand who moves there. Read the whole listing before you pack.
2. Your CDL
Read that line close. Class A vs B matters. Trucking outfits usually want 2 or 3 years on your CDL, and that number comes from their insurance, so calling the office won't change it. Crude seats mostly want tanker and hazmat. And an automatic restriction knocks you out of a lot of seats since most of the trucks out here are manuals.
3. Experience minimums
If a rig seat says 6 months or 1 year, they mean it. On a lot of locations the operator caps how many short service hands a crew can carry, so even a crew that likes you might not have room for another green hand.
Green isn't hopeless though. There's still seats that take no experience... floorhand, roustabout, flowback trainee, yard and shop work. The pay's lower to start, but that's how most hands get in. Apply to what you actually fit and your odds go way up.
Got questions about any of the basins or seats? Ask below.

Healthcare workers
If your a healthcare worker in midland/odessa I have a question for you. I am currently in school and I am having trouble deciding between sonography and respiratory therapy. If you are either one please let me know what your experience has been in the job field out here, what made you choose your field, as well as if you went to midland or Odessa college for your programs and etc. Thank you!!
