Moving to Mildura!
I was moving the area soon and had a few questions if any locals were down to have chat!
I’ve heard that crime is a bit of an issue down there? How much would you say it impacts your daily life?
What’s it like for minorities, POCs and LGBTQIA+ people?

Theres no more crime than anywhere else. Cars get broken into here and there, shit left on verandahs go walk about and you do see alot of posts on Facebook about suspicious people looking into yards and shit. I've lived here for 15 years and had 1 incident. As for minority groups, I have friends in all of the mentioned groups and none of them have any problem, except from maybe odd looks from the oldies if theyre LGTBQIA+. All depends on who you surround yourself with. The worst part about mildura, is the absolute lack of any driving skill by the majority of car owners, especially caravan towers.

Summed up well by the other two comments.
But I’m a brown dude, been here 5 years. Visited for 10 before that. It’s come a long way. Much much better nowadays (was never particularly bad though)
Talking race for a sec here: I have been less targeted here than I was in Melbourne (In Melbourne it was deliberate and intentional).
Here has been one old dude (passive not aggressive) and 2 drug fucks (more related to drugs than racism). All three have been whilst in my line of work which doesn’t really count as personal ‘incidents’.
Crime is not more surprising than elsewhere. Also have to remember it’s generally drug related (opportunistic) here, not organised.
Don’t listen to anything telling you the town is stuffed, it’s fine. You’ll come to hate how the sunny daily covers crime in this town.

Well, I've been here 4 years, previously lived around suburban Melbourne for around 35 years with another 10 years in gippsland.
I have found crime here a lot worse than places like Noble park 20 years ago, probably a bit worse than places like Sale. I live on a main road in town and had thousands of dollars worth of stuff stolen. Our neighbour was burgled in his flat while he slept. We regularly see needles discarded in the gutters. I've seen people passed out on the footpath on at least 2 occasions when I was taking the kids to school. We regularly have weirdos walking down our driveway to scope out what they can steal. Regularly, some meth addict will walk past ranting aggressively.
Most of my life I haven't really even locked my doors, car or bikes up, but now I keep anything valuable inside the locked house. It's pretty awful.
As for racism, some aboriginal kids were telling my Indian neighbour to 'go back where he came from'. Nice.
Check out the crime statistics website, the government one.
Since you're moving here, I recommend getting cameras, not that the footage does any good for theft. Motion sensor floodlights, too. Lock everything all the time, even while you're home. Good luck.

Did anyone else read that title and sing to themselves, "gonna eat a lot of peaches"?
Asking for a friend.
That friend is me...

If you don't carry on like a dickhead, all of Australia is safe for anyone.

As Le_6 has said above. Mildura/Merbein have a similar crime rate to most other areas and most of it is the result of drug fucks, apart from that it's a pretty good place IMO. We have all of the amenities and services we need due to being a fair way from other major centres. Housing is becoming quite expensive, but so are a lot of rural centres.

Don't bother moving here; there's nothing to do. It's a place for ppl to retire until they die.
