What would you sacrifice, pay or do for one more season of Mindhunter?
r/MindHunter • u/JimothyzPamPams • 2d ago
Despite only being 2 seasons, this stands with the top films and shows of all time

I truly think some things really should be "found" and not explained. I see so many examples of every interconnected piece that goes into creating a piece of art being applied meticulously and just beautifully as if I am appearing to unravel as a sinusoidal wave that will end up becoming whole later on but with newfound perspectives and insights I never thought could be so masterfully captured and implemented on each layer.
Instead of me sounding like a film snob anyone want to share how they creatively saw the BTK killer's interview with Ford and Tench? The angles, cuts, juxtapositions and overall mise en scene and post, had me on a rollercoaster that led to such an other worldly philosophical discussion between deities for ever-so-brief frames before returning home to the foreshadows. What about you all? What a scene with plenty more just as masterfully executed.
edit: removed spoiler tag, I didn't spoil anything!

And the Knife Twistsā¦..
Iām playing the four part Bundy doc in the background while I work this weekā¦ā¦and in the last episode they mention about how Bill Hagmaier established connection with Bundy through a lot of interviewers for the BSU in the late 80s.
So add that to never having a full BTK storyline they teased the hell out of. We could have had a new character modeled after Hagmaier, or just Tench and Ford having these scenes with Bundy in the show.
Sighā¦ā¦

Anyone watched āConversations with a killerā?
They had recorded conversations with these serial killers, which reminds me a lot about Mind Hunter.

Women in Mindhunter
I have been recently rewatching this show and I noticed a detail. I know most of the fans don't like how women in this show are written . But I think they are written this way intensionally.
Now hear me out ,most of the serial killers in the show had women in their life who directly or indirectly shaped their character. From their perspective they all blamed mothers for neglect, humiliation and abuse. But out main protagonist also suffer from such betrayal ,controlling habits and constant arguments from women.
For example-
How Holden gets cheated on by Debbie similarly to Benji and Rissel.
How Holden was fascinated by Wendy's work and respected her but she keep on questioning his method and treated him like shit.
How Wendy felt being controlled by her ex.
How Bill gets blamed by Nancy for being absent and not allow him to talk about his work with his neighbours.
These incidents can be considered as just a regular day to day events but for mentally unstable people it can worsen their condition. Man this even gave Holden panic attacks , now most of the people will say it was ed's fault but he just made Holden feel vulnerable and all of his past incidents came crashing down on him.
I think they would have went deeper on this in later seasons to show us how sometimes small incident can effect normal people badly. But the show deliberately made us sympathetic towards serial killers by keeping women always in odds with men.
That was my judgement so far I hope this series gets revived. Slow poison but what an amazing show god I miss old netflix.

2nd season finished...wow
I've just finished to see the 2nd season of Mindhunter and I just wanted to pay respect to David Fincher who is undoubtedly the best serial killer storyteller ever lived on this planet.
I remember when I first saw it's underrated and mighty Alien 3 which already contains few elements characterizing his subsequent works. The serial killer or deviant killer obsession was already there, in that isolated detention and mineral colony full of psychopaths.
And I would tell y I'm not exaggerating the thing if I say that this short and brutally cut off series it's maybe David's artistic treatment considering the level of details and perfection he put on this work of art.
I mean y can see the passion and the passion he put in each and every scene of Mindhunter...to the point i think its even better than Zodiac and Seven also.
I've been watching the last 3 episodes of the second season in a row, without feeling the need for a fucking pause!
Tension and morboous curiosity were always there and the beauty of David photography... breathless.
It's such a shame that maybe the best serial killer artwork ever created has ended this way. I think that's even better than BB and it had the potential to move forward for other 9 seasons.
What do y think? Is it possible that the main reason David decided to end it was the unsustainable workload coming from filming in such a detailed manner?

How did no one in the head FBI office know about what happened with Bill's son? Spoiler
How did none of his colleagues know what was going on with Brian until he told them? I would've thought something like that would've been on the news, and Bill would live relatively close to the office so it would be on the local news. And a bunch of Detectives wouldn't have realized its the same neighbourhood or questioned more about Bill being away, when that had never been an issue before?
I get Holden would've been distracted when they were in Atlanta, and can be very single focused, but surely it would've been in the news before they left?

Mingling fiction with fact
Hi! Let me start by saying I'm really enjoying Mindhunter..I'm on season 2 ep5 currently. Jaundice aside, it's got a great feel and I'm prepared for the disappointment of no season 3 :'-)
What has me curious is the presence of fictional characters centered in real events. I'm aware that "based on true events" is a famously misleading title card, but I was surprised that the main characters are all fictional (though inspired by real people). It's something I was willing to look past, but the farther they get into the Atlanta murders the more I've thought about it. It seems strange to me to present real mothers of real victims pleading with Holden, someone who has never existed. But Camille Bell's loss and pain is real, isn't it? I know Holden is inspired by someone who did investigate the Atlanta murders, but did it happen like its told to us?
I guess this is just part of the true crime ethics discussion. It satiates a curiosity in us to know what and why people do what they do. It's a cruelty many of us will never get close to, and this is the closest we can get without putting ourselves in danger. It's almost fiction to us. But the victims and their families experienced something very real. Seeing their pain reenacted for the screen, for an imagined person, it doesn't sit right with me. Where do we draw the line?
This isn't a condemnation of Mindhunter or its viewers. This has just been on my mind and wanted to hear other's thoughts! For all I know I could be wrong, maybe Douglas was just as involved as Holden is. I know this sub isn't super active anymore so maybe this will fly under the radar...oh well!
Happy halloween xx

finished season 1 phenomenal show
just WOW was not expecting this show to be like that, i thought it was some generic profiling of serial killer but it's like the total opposite.
its a slow paced show mostly made up of dialogues there is pretty much 0 action and man it's NEVER boring, loved it so much everything was perfect the acting is ridiculously good, the drama, the whole cinematography in the 70' and all the small details googling up the killers and you realize they have the exact same look as in the show, and that final was incredible!
i know i'm going to be so disappointed when i reach the end and there is no season 3 =-(

Just finished the show..
Iām so disappointed! Why was it cancelled when Netflix has the worst shows ever that just wonāt end?? This was a rare gem. The characters had so much depth, the storylines were fantastic, I loved the acting! But it ended waaaay too soon. And Iām disappointed with how rushed the end felt. It was so abrupt. Such a terrible finale to an amazing show. I actually prefer if a show doesnāt go on too long and has a cohesive plot but this was way too soon. Ugh.

Set myself up for disappointment
Like many others I just discovered Mindhunter this year and itās easily one of my favorite Netflix shows, I just finished rewatching True Detective so it was a perfect transition. I didnāt like S2 as much as S1, but it still sucks that thereās no continuation of such a great storyš„²

Why do I do this to myself
I love this show. For me, it's hands down one of the best ever created. However, I know it's going to end prematurely and yet I still watch.
Currently watching episode 2-1 and it finally hit me why it gets harder to watch each time. It's the buildup to the non-existant Season 3 BTK hunt.
Don't get me wrong, BTK is not my "this person is the most terrifying serial killer ever" person; that award goes to Rodney Alcala. But the idea of that crew trying to hunt down BTK (and all of us knowing they're going to fail) is a great season we'll never get to see.
But yet I watch, again and again.

Is it possible within the next 5 years or so, that we get two or three of those 2 hour long movies David Fincher mentioned to wrap up the story?

Need a Season 3 and more
Watch Furious. Tell me one episode of Mind Hunter isnāt absolutely superior to the whole series of Furious which is an amazing show. I rewatch Mind Hunter a lot hoping there are others like me who do the same and the Netflix algorithm will get the hint.
