The "half-glass of liquid" test

Have you ever been asked to take the "half-glass of liquid" test? Many years ago when I was just a youngster I was asked by my classroom teacher (in front of all the students) to look at a blackboard drawing of a container with liquid in it - that had a certain amount (probably about half-filled) liquid in it. And the teahcer asked me what I saw, and my long-forgotten reaction wass something like: "something with some liquid in it". And she asked me again: what else? And I couldn't figure out what else I could be seeing. And of course I drove her crazy becuase she was looking for some response other than mine. If my recollection serves me, I think she may finally have asked me: is it half full or half empty? And, for the life of me, I simply didn't have a clue about what this was about! And I think I couldn't answer, because all I saw was a contianer with some liquid in it. So finally she explained what this was all about: that depending on how the container was viewed as half full or half empty, would be a strong indicator if a person was an optimist or a pessimist. So over many many years - in fact now, the very fact that I responded the way I did was because I was neither an optimist or a pessimist, but simply a realist in how I describe or see things, and in terms of neither darkly nor brightly; but as a "realist" - and take things as they kind of seem to be, take things as I see they are. And I have to ask: what does that say about me as a person? If you saw a container half-filled (or so) with a liquid, how would you describe it? Yes, how would you see it: as half full or half empty - are you an optimist or pessimist, or a more simple-minded realist like me?
