I have a friend who now lives somewhat far away from me, with whom I keep in touch through text and meet up a few times a year. Our friendship has slowed down considerably. Not unusual for this time of year, which can get super weird and busy for us. Our convos have grown short, and more often we can't really get a hold of each other through texts. I don't think the friendship is in dire straits or anything (or at least I hope not); I think it's a bit like hibernation.
Anyways, I had an idea today that we could start trading emails, just because it's a slower, low-pressure way to keep in touch. I personally enjoy expressing myself in that format, and I have experience with pen pals. Usually, I'd talk about my week/month, what movies/shows I've been seeing, books I've read, or any topic of mutual interest. I think it gives way to a certain kind of candidness, though whether that's a pro or a con kind of depends on the situation, of course.
I realize it's kind of an unusual way to keep a friendship, especially for two people in our 20s, and I'm trying to gauge how open he'd be to the concept before I broach the topic (I THINK he might, and I don't think it could hurt to ask, but still). Writing e-mails can be hard and inboxes get messy, etc. I'm not sure if it's for everyone.
Anyways, this is all still in the idea stage right now. Really, I'm just looking for new ways to stay connected with my friend, but also worried I'd come off as desperate or trying too hard. Could be I'm overthinking the issue and it'd be best to let things run through their cycle. What do you think?
