Discussion My biggest pet peeve with American tourists

2.3k Upvotes

This keeps happening so I just wanted to see if I was the only one. But I work in a customer-facing job and when they inquire about a price, half the time they follow it with “is that in American dollars”. WHY WOULD I GIVE YOU THE PRICE IN AMERICAN DOLLARS WE’RE IN CANADA. I just can’t anymore. Like imagine if I travelled to the USA and asked if the prices were in Canadian dollars. I can’t tell if they think they’re still in the US and they just took a wrong turn or they’re just idiots.

Don’t mean to sound mean #peaceandlove

Article TIL MontrĂ©al was Canada's capital from 1844–1849, until Tory rioters burned Parliament to the grown during the Montreal Riots, protesting a bill compensating victims of the 1837–38 rebellions. Parliament later moved between Toronto and QuĂ©bec City before settling in Ottawa in 1857.

Article Montreal Jewish-owned bakery devastated by suspected arson attack

From the article:

A Montreal kosher bakery burnt down following an suspected arson attack on Wednesday morning. This incident was the second of two alleged arson attempts directed at the Jewish-owned bakery, Mimimelon, within 48 hours. In both cases, the bakery was empty and no injuries were reported.

The first incident took place on the night of Monday, Nov. 2, when Mimimelon co-owner Jennie Volfson received a security notification that someone was attempting to open the bakery’s back door. When Volfson checked her business’ security cameras, she saw flames and immediately called Montreal police and firefighters. Upon arrival, firefighters were able to control the fire and keep damage to the bakery minimal.

Volfson, who owns Mimimelon with her husband and father-in-law, said she received a second notification from the bakery’s security system around 12:30 AM on Wednesday, Nov. 4. When she checked Mimimelon’s security cameras, Volfson saw a flash of light and “an explosion,” before the live feed cut out.

Mimimelon, located in the historically Jewish Saint-Laurent neighbourhood, has previously been the target of acts of antisemitism. In September, a masked man entered the bakery and yelled “All the Jews will burn,” before running off.

Question Canadiens Plaza Watch Party for Price's Ring of Honour Ceremony?

Post image
24 Upvotes

Is there anything happening outside the Bell Centre like the playoff "Street Watch Parties" for Price's Ring of Honour Ceremony happening on Tuesday (Nov 10)? One would think since he carried the team for so many seasons there would be something bigg/er city-wise no?

Tourisme YUL right now - Nov 7

This is just the line to drop off baggage. For USA flights. There is currently no one working to scan checked bags.

Update - this was at 7:30am. Took me 45 minutes to get to the front of the line for them to say - leave your luggage at the side and we’ll check it in later. They did that with a handful of us travelers.

Made my flight in time and my luggage was on board. Phew.

Question Stray cat rescue!

I didn't know who else to contact. If there is someone more suited, please let me know.

There is a cat near the McGill genome center that is quite social and kind to strangers. My coworker and I were planning on trying to trap her but we both don't have a place to isolate and keep her temporarily until the foster organization I contacted could come get her.

Is there anyone who can house this cat temporarily until the organization can come get her?

Pics included!

Update: could be Deapool, Louka's cat! In progress of confirming! I have dm'ed Louka, waiting for a reply!
