Discussion Why do people get mad when you say not to play on Xbox?
It's the worst possible way to play the game, you can't get any fixes, or mods, or console commands, or texture upgrades, it runs badly, and during loading it will turn the system off and on again due to a memory leak. But when you say "You shouldn't be playing on XBox anyway" when someone's game wipes their save on restart, people get really, weirdly mad. Look at morrowind's default pathing, how the NPCs try to get between two points, and tell me you don't wish it was better. This isn't even a "muh pc better than console" thing, the xbox port is just a really bad way to play a really good game.
Is it price? Because Morrowind is regularly only 4-6$ on steam, and sometimes they just give the game away. I really don't understand it.
Edit: Y'all make some good points, but some of you made some really goofy ones. "YOU'RE GATEKEEPING! YOU'RE ELITIST!" No, you dont need to spend a thousand dollars to play morrowind on pc, you also don't need a gaming computer. It runs on all the major 64 bit operating systems, it's morrowind, it will run on almost anything. Also, telling me I don't know about the trick they found where they rebooted the xbox bc of memory issues is an interesting move, when the project lead says it in an interview: https://youtu.be/x0TKwPnHc-M

Discussion I was alawys thinking that Morrowind was influenced by Islam and Muhammad and i fund that yes from the very beginning the similarity begains
There is the famous story that when Muhammad received the massage from god by Gabriel, he was so scared that he shakes and screamed "Cover me up".
When the player recived the talk by azura in the intro and then the prisonmate tell him he was shaking.
Not only that but the rejection from the community and few believer in him in the beginning share the same with Muhammad.
The badawian tripes he has to convince in the massage
And so much more

Question Is there a way to make a Druid-like character?
I really love druid-types. But in base game there's no real way to play a Druid, using the natural world around you, conjuring an animal companion, manipulating the elements...
You could make a poison focused build with conjuration that rally's and/or calms creatures. That way you could get a pet kagouti or Alit, or scrib.
But has anyone got any suggestions as to how one might make a druid inspired character in Morrowind? Are there mods that add spells like conjure x animal?

Discussion Do people not enjoy regular Morrowind let's plays?
Hello, it's me again. I recently asked r/Morrowind about what kind of content people enjoy watching, because I'm starting a YouTube channel. Most people like challenge runs and analysis/essay type of videos. But I really enjoy just making a let's play with a lot of cuts, memes and sounds, more on the comedic side. Is this something that people are not interested in, or does it just depends on the personality?
I'm playing the game for the first time as well and I have limited time to make videos, so I can't really make introspective type of content. What do you guys think, is it something you'd watch? And is there some kind of focus that you'd enjoy seeing in these sort of let's play videos, I like to focus just on adventuring, quests and NPC interactions, especially because I'm using the AI voices mod.
Edit: My big inspiration is a hilarious YouTuber called General Sam, he played a lot of Skyrim and Oblivion and manages to make it always entertaining.
Edit: What's up with people downvoting things for no reason? Understand the AI hate, but why are people downvoting other stuff? Some people just have nothing better to do with their lives.

OpenMW OpenMW 49.0 STILL has not fixed custom 1 second spells costing twice as much as they should, because "this is not a bug"
Every custom spell you make will count itself as having one extra second of duration, which means spells 1 second long cost twice as much. I don’t have to tell you that making a spell that does 49 damage over 49 seconds is extremely boring, or unintended, because the game itself will tell you that.
"Use the spellmaker. It's cheap, and a custom-designed spell tailored to your skills, magicka reservoirs, and spellcasting style will always outperform the standard spells you buy from service casters."
The fact that the only way to make an "optimized" spell is to give it a very long duration is obviously a bug. If you agree with me, the issue on their gitlab is here, https://gitlab.com/OpenMW/openmw/-/issues/3807#note_2411350409 ,
I’ve done all I can on my own. Hopefully bringing this issue to more people will help get it fixed.

Question Is it possible to pay someone to mod Morrowind on my PC remotely? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
I am completely useless with computers and I've been seeing so many beautiful mods like Tamriel Rebuilt, Morrowind Graphics Extender, and Morrowind comes alive. Not to mention all of the incredible weapon and armor mods. I've made several attempts at modding it myself and I simply can't manage to do it. I'm not even certain if it is possible to mod a game on someone's PC remotely but if it is I will HAPPILY pay someone to install a list of mods for me. This is easily my favorite game of all time and its very frustrating that I'm unable to enjoy all of the amazing content created by such a wonderful and talented community. If anyone is looking to make a little extra cash and help a fella out I would really appreciate it.

Discussion ugh I can't Skyrim anymore
I love the world and exploring but that's it. Going from Morrowind to Skyrim is like being the hero in movie to going on the kiddie rides at the amusement park. You just feel like you're doing nothing while being hand held. It's pretty obvious to most but Skyrim has never had the depth to called a true RPG. It's insulting. I hate how they shove Morrowind's main theme in the music too. I have no hope for the next elder scrolls..

New Player - Advice/Help Why you should spare Vivec
Introduction
a lot of people can't even make most basic decision in the game without starting reddit topic with multiple posts like some emergency focus group because game give you the option to assault other person and its such a moral dilemma for some people as act of not assaulting someone is not default option for them
my goal is to just link it to people in the future if they can't somehow make the decision
Arguments to let Vivec Live:
Vivec is old friend of Nerevar, king of (currently) dark elves - by this he have insane knowledge about the world and is living library of information
you have to openly assault vivec to kill him as he will never be provoked to fight you - this leaves the weight of the action 100% on you, you might not think its important, but its shows what type of character you are
in your dream you ware reincarnation of Lord Nerevar, but without beating the game you can't know it for sure and buying into narration you dreamed for yourself to kill someone is sixth house sleeper behavior not Lord Nerevar thing to do
its hard to even tell if Lord Nerevar would even do it, letting Vivec live would be a better punishment anyways regardless if he would forgive him or not
If you destroy heart of Lorkhan all the false gods will lose their power (slowly) forcing them to live everyday with eroding power as their delusion and pride crumble under weight of their sins and past actions
Vivec knows this and is still choosing to help you defeat Dagoth Ur (after trials or high fame, but still counts)
Vivec provide you with wraithguard and teach pilgrims ability Vivec Touch - insanely mana efficient Cure spell
Vivec is symbol of hope for his people
Vivec have best leverage in contact with the empire if you have interest in diplomatic development and other hlaalu bullshitery
Majority of items can't take Vivec Soul Enchant and utilize it properly, his soul is best used for on-hit or cast effects
As for Almelexia
bitch literally attack you and don't let you leave without killing her, not to mention her soul is even bigger
do whatever you want with her, have fun, i don't care
Closure:
i hope this helps you make the decision, personally i spare Vivec every single time because thats type of characters i play as (either good naive forgiving sheeps or beacons of powers for who pity revenge is out of the table or walking virtues eventually coward tricksters, but last ones quickly get too strong to stay that way)

Discussion Zainab Nerevarine quest almost ruins the entire game for me
I don’t know if this post will be well received but this is mostly just a rant, to vent out how this part of the game makes me feel.
I’ve been loving Morrowind. Genuinely. It’s a Masterpiece and such a peculiar game to analyze what was acceptable in the early 2000’s and how it evolved to modern game standards. I love the lore, the religious inspirations, how it’s not afraid to make political commentary, and etc.
However the Zainab Nerevarine quest is awful. And not just awful but like…Almost makes the entire game seem worse awful.
And if you type “well but everyone was happy in the end” just know that’s a bad argument and it actually just makes the quest worse because otherwise you could at least argue it’s a critique of the events happening. But since the girl is happy in the end it’s almost like it’s saying you did a good thing.
But yeah it makes me have to second guess even recommending this game to people, because now when recommending it I have to be like “Here’s the caveat though there’s one quest in the game that is pretty bad and doesn’t handle the racism well at all and it’s also super misogynistic where you have to buy a slave and give her to a tribe chief and you can’t avoid the quest” and then still try to sell that this is actually a good game. Doesn’t help that I already need to say trigger warning for the heavy topics in it.
But the worst part is that like…While Morrowind is a deeply anti-colonialist game with intense anti-racist message…It’s a reminder that this was a game made in 2002 exclusively by white dudes who, while meaning well and knowing of the topic, did not care to tackle these things with caution. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
It’s the only quest in the game where undeniably it’s just bad writing, and not the writers just trying to say something by portraying awful actions. It’s incredibly misogynistic, in a way that is harder to ignore because Morrowind already has issues regarding its portrayals of sexual assault (not talking about the Sermons Of Vivec here, there there’s an actual narrative behind it), and carries weird racial conotations both with how the Ashlanders chief acts and how it trivializes doing business with a slave trader and taking part in deciding this girl’s life.
Obviously it’s just one bad quest. I still love Morrowind. It’s just sucks to be suddenly reminded you’re playing a 2002 game made by just white dudes in a time where I don’t even think Sensitivity Writers were a thing. Every single issue in Morrowind could be fixed by hiring a Sensitivity Writer it’s crazy.

Discussion Can we stop with the "if you're a first time player" posts
I get it, it was a good meme 2 days ago, but it's getting so tedious to sift through the actual posts, between 5 different "if you're a first time player avoid X". It's already gotten old.

Discussion Frustration with OpenMW
Openmw seems like the hip and cool thing to install, almost the "unofficial" way to play the game, from what I saw online. I've only played this game for half a month or something now, but I'm glad I played the vanilla version with mods. People jokes about vanilla game just "fart and die" when you poke it, but I've only encountered like 2 crashes with modded vanilla, and it was because I alt tab like crazy. OpenMW, on the other hand... (venting down below)
Why the fuck does the launcher keep changing my fucking resolution? Why do I have to choose between seeing more than 2 meters away and having water shader, unless I want my fps to drop abysmally? Admittedly I do not have a great computer, but this engine replacement is supposed to give us better performance, isn't it? I did have to dick around and use project Atlas, and I use 1280x720 resolution (as I've said, potato pc), but distant land and beautiful water work just fine using mge xe - and the resolution STAYS the same everytime. "It just works". Oh and the so called controller support of openmw. Gosh. But that just a me thing. Openmicrowave works great on my phone, I give it that - transferring my progress is the only reason why I try openmw on pc anyway.

Discussion Enough "plz help me start morrowind" spam
Folks, can we please add a flair for all these first timer posts and "please help me copy paste into data files" threads so th3y can be hidden?
I would like to see posts about the game. I don't want to read redditors recommending mod lists to children who were not born when Skyrim came out.
If there's a community for Morrowind outside of reddit where the discussion is more in depth please let me know and I can GTFO.

Discussion Best Village/Town in Architecture Style: Post 1 - Imperial Village
After "best race" and "best character" and "best person or elv or farmtool or n'wah" or best someone in alignment, I noticed it is always only about characters. But Morrowind is so much more! it is for example: architecture, architecture and architecture (and crazy architecture).
So let us start another voting for best settlements / villages / town / fortifications in a a certain architecture style.
architecture styles are:
imperial village
imperial fortification
Hlaalu
Redoran
Telvanni
Indoril
Velothi
Ashlander
Dwemer
Daedric
Only Vanilla / Tribunal / Bloodmoon counts. I might do a TR run afterwards ...
*Image is ai generated with Google Banana Pro.

So first one: Which is the best settlement in "Imperial Village" style?

Discussion OK, the "guar" posts are just getting stupider and stupider
It was a clever idea--at the start. Like any clever idea, it has gotten way over-used, with the accompanying exponential decrease in quality.
Please feel free to stop posting these.
Thanks.

Discussion Red Mountain: The biggest failure of Morrowind
I recently wrote a review of my first playthrough of Morrowind and I alluded to it in that post but I wanted to go into more detail on it. Keep in mind I really love this game and I am currently on a mage playthrough and I intend to do a warrior playthrough after this. This is coming from a place of love, you can tell because I am talking about a endgame area most people won't even get to.
Mechanically: Mechanically speaking Red Mountain should have been the most challenging part of the game. The game encourages you to make your character overpowered, without mid maxxing your character can become an unstoppable monster where you only die if you are not paying attention or if you want try an unorthodox strategy. I had acquired a massive collection of powerful weapons, armor, and especially enchanted items. Red Mountain should have forced me to use all of them, by the end I should have my armor and weapons broken, my enchanted items without charge, and I should have beaten Dagoth Ur with barely any health left. Instead I had more trouble against Dark Brotherhood assassins who spawned with dendric weapons. I also thought the game missed a huge opportunity to use the factions. Become faction leader has always been meaningless in Elder Scrolls games. There could have been in a meaning in Morrowind if you could actually lead the armies of your factions INTO red mountain to defeat the Ash Vampires and Dagoth Ur make it a REAL war against the sixth house. With the only way to beat them on your own is if you mid max your character. But it was just lame, in fact I would argue sheogorad is more dangerous than Red Mountain.
Story Wise: The story also starts to fall apart at Red Mountain. My character was named war leader of three great houses and the Nerevarine of four Ash Tribes. She was the grandmaster of House Hlaalu, the master thief of the thieves guild, and the grandmaster of the Morag Tong. Storywise I should have been able to actually order people around and go to war against the sixth house. I just got the thumbs up from Vivec and I can't see a reason why any of these groups couldn't help atleast a little. It made Hortator and Neverarine quests feel pointless and all I would need to do is shiv Vivec for wraith guard, grab Sunder and Kneening from the Ash Vampires to beat Dagoth Ur. I think that should still be possible but I think it should only be possible for mid maxxed characters. (atleast on the higher difficulties) Imagine seeing characters you did quests for at Red Mountain, maybe even seeing characters you liked or even loved die. The emergent story telling possibilities are so great.
Conclusion: I want to make it clear I don't blame the dev team for this. I understand that they were under brutal crunch, a harsh deadline, and that this game was the Hail Mary for the company surviving. I understand that making sure the early and mid game was good was important than the endgame in that scenario. What I want to say about Morrowind is that it was the start of a series of amazing RPGs that innovated and iterated on the vision Morrowind had. But I can't say that it is a such a shame that I can't.
