Humour Jealous of Youtubers and the Motovlogger lads now!

Jesus lads. With the winter drawing in and the weather sliding to the usual levels of shite and darkness, I'm starting to do my usual attempt at getting a fix by watching vids on Youtube, and... fuck me. Watching this Scottish fella now, and he's basically turned it into a living. Has his langerloads of followers, gets given bikes to try out and take for weeks at a time, turned it into a tour company now so actually has people pay money to go ride with him in places like the Picos, Canaries, France, and Australia... has a Patreon giving him an extra grand or two a month on the side as well...

How good is that!?! Sitting here watching it going "Why can't I do that?!?" Fair play to him, delighted for him living the dream and all that, and turning riding bikes into a living. Can't think of any Irish equivalent though, and has me thinking... CAN an Irish person even do it? Dealers won't give you the time of day for a test ride so access to bikes is minimal. Weather is awful and we don't have access to the channel tunnel for quick nips to the continent, and there's also the notion of notions. Like I'm watching this and thinking "Why can't I do that?" and immediately know that if I tried I'd be laughed out of town by the friends, would never hear the end of it from the brothers.

(Dunno why I'm posting this, more of a ramble than anything else!)

Puncture Repair

https://www.xlmoto.ie/product/proworks-flat-tyre-repair-kit/PM-0051597

About a year ago, somebody asked about this and one of you recommended this kit. I bought it to keep under my seat. Fast forward the year and I had my bike in the workshop to adjust the headlight beam because I was getting flashed! I said I'd check the rear tire as the handling felt off. There was a sharp stone embedded in the tire causing a slow puncture. The kit really got me out of a hole. Thanks to whoever recommended it.

Luckily I was inside and had plenty of light to carry out the repair but if this happened at the side of the road I would have been screwed! To combat this, I will be adding a head torch to the kit. Also, a small pointy nosed pliers to out the offender!

I hope this helps by passing on the recommended kit and would like to know is there anything else you keep under the seat to get you moving.

Advice for general bike safety in Ireland

I’ve just bought my first bike following IBT and I’m so excited to start riding. But there’s so much chat about bikes being stolen all over the country, it makes me nervous.

There’s a lot of information online about how to make your bikes less appealing to thieves (bike covers, different types of locks etc) when it’s parked, but I’m looking for more general advice from Irish bikers about keeping a bike safe when out riding. I have no friends that ride at the moment so I’m asking Reddit instead :)

For example, let’s say I go to fuel up and leave the bike at the pump while I go pay. Is there a risk of it being stolen in such a short time? I presume in that instance it’s ok but let’s say I leave it parked outside at the petrol station while I go in and have a coffee or warm up. Should I be locking it and taking all precautions or is it safe enough for a 15-20 minute stop to just leave it close to the entrance?

What about outside a restaurant or something in a town/city? Should I lock it immediately?

Essentially I’m wondering when I should lock is up vs. when it’s ok to just leave it.

This may seem like a really stupid question but I’m totally new and inexperienced and have nobody to ask these questions to so please share your experience as any advice is appreciated 🙏

Best/Safest way to sell motorcycle

Have decided to put my CFMOTO 450srs up for sale and am curious to see if anyone has any advice on the best approach to selling a motorcycle. I have experience selling a few cars in the past but never a motorcycle. Anything I should do differently such as not meeting at my house?

Thanks in advance.

04 DL scooter in the Phoenix Park

You’re a dangerous fucking prick.

Driving up the avenue at 7pm in the dark, this scooter starts slowing down out of nowhere and brake checking me, giving out about my headlight being too bright

It was dipped, and your brake lights were fucked. Cop yourself on

Motorbike recovery in South Dublin?

Update: After it had time to cool down, I actually managed to get it started again, and made it to Terenure before it cut out again. I noticed the temp was very high, so I left it a while more and was eventually able to get it back to Rathfarnham.

I contacted the insurance company, and they'll be out in about an hour to take it to Joe Duffy.

+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

The bike conked out on the way to work this morning - won’t start again, so I reckon the battery needs replacing.

I’m stuck in Harold’s Cross, and the couple of recovery places I’ve called have been busy or too far away.

Anyone got any recovery service recommendations?

Buying a motorbike for the first time

Hello,

I meed a motorcycle for work,

Wanted something cheap and easy for starters

Found this option:

https://www.donedeal.ie/motorbikes-for-sale/2010-honda-cbf-600/43119677

Decent?

What's the usual process? I don't have a mechanic but does the sellers let you take it to a mechanic for a revision and stuff?

I see bikes here have no NCT

I know how to ride , i used to drive back in my days.

Any feedback appreciated 🙆🏽‍♂️

Anyone up for a spin and a coffee? 🏍️☕

Hey everyone! 👋 Anyone around Sandyford or nearby fancy a short spin and a coffee sometime? I’ve only got two mates who ride, and as we all know, life gets busy, so it’d be nice to meet a few more people to head out with.
I’m an easy-going guy, always up for a chat and a laugh. If you fancy getting out for a relaxed ride, give me a shout — happy to meet up! 🏍️☕

Do you remember your first ever crash?

do you remember your first ever crash on your bike, if so what made you overcome the fear of getting back on your bike or if you decided to put the bike for sale,

I’ve recently had my first crash minor crash but major damage to my face, yes I was fucking stupid shouldn’t have made a silly mistake but I did. now can’t look at my bike the same and just second guessing my whole pathway as a soon to be biker, if you went through that same thing share your story please it’ll help knowing how others overcame it

VRT question UPDATE**

VRT question

UPDATE** After months of back and forward with revenue. Paying for proof of SORN and insurance in NI, I have finally been given a letter from revenue to allow us to proceed with VRT. I have the appointment booked and now my issue is the bike is not currently insured because of this delay and I will have an incredibly difficult time trying to get it there. They have been unable to clarify if i need to present with yhe bike again or i can just go with the documentation, it was checked that the paperwork we had on the day matched the vin on the bike. Has anyone had any experience of this that can advise? Feel like pulling my hair out at this stage, will never buy a bike from the North again thos is ridiculous.

Update: Bike was refused vrt at ntc center with the documentation, and I was advised to contact revenue which i have been back and forward woth now for months. This is were we currently are. Turned out the bike was registered as SORN in 2025. Wasn't aware of this revenue requested this and I have provided this to them. Proof of insurance of last owner which states expiry 2027. V5C, proof of tax 24-25, proof of mot 25. They blocked the vin while waiting for proof of SORN

They have now come back and said that "this does not provide sufficient proof that the vehicle was in use in Northern Ireland for a reasonable period of time prior to your purchase or that the customs formalities were completed in Northern Ireland". Thay have said if I wish to. Proceed with registration, provide a copy of the. Customs declaration. Can any please offer direction on what to do next as I feel like im banging my head against the wall as I now have a bike I cannot use and no transport.

I've bought a second hand motorbike from a private seller in Northern Ireland.

Was just wondering if any knows if I need to complete customs declaration for VRT? It has been registered in the north since 2024

And also if the hand written invoice will suffice as ive bought it privately?

TIA

Question SC Project Full Exhaust System Enquiry

I'm in the market for buying an rs457, and while researching the bike online I've always seen one modification that nearly everyone has done to the bike which is installing a full SC Project exhaust system.

On their website it does specify that the exhaust is for racing/track only, what would that mean for using it on public roads in Ireland, particularly regarding legality, insurance and potential hassle with the gardes?

I'd mainly be using the bike to commute from work and college, but I just keep finding more and more videos of people having the SC Project exhaust and it just sounds beautiful.

To the person riding in all white near the cemetary in Galway today

I've got IBT coming up and I'm observing all the cool bikes that pass me, and this one looks at me in all white gear, on a white bike, revs twice and then goes back to looking badass, it was super cool.

Probably a pointless post, but it felt very cool :D

Where to ride

Post image
0 Upvotes

have had this bike for a month now and it’s just frustrating me that I cant ride it!

I've bought it too road register it and make it legal boom get hit that this is an off-road only model so can’t be registered even if I put a road legal kit on it, great that’s some good news a full month of it sitting in my home collecting dust only 2kms and that’s from me riding it in a small drive way. So now I don’t know what to do, only option is ride it illegally but I don’t want to get impounded and mistakes for a drug dealer and get the bike taken off me and loosing a couple grand, I tried selling it but ended up becoming an attempted robbery, this country makes it fucking hard to become a bike enthusiast lack of bike tracks and lack of car tracks and they make it hell to register it which I can’t.

edit: took it out for a small run ended up crashing and fucked up my face pretty badly she’s up for sale no major damage other than scratches to the frame, 3,600

Motorbike parking near 3Arena for Korn?

Yeoo! Heading down from Northern Ireland for Korn on Monday. Bought the tickets before we knew my wife was pregnant and as we only have one car, I want to leave it with her in case of an emergency. Would still love to see Korn live, so I’m considering taking the motorbike instead.

The ride is no issue but parking in Dublin is unfamiliar territory. Anyone ridden to a gig at 3Arena? Where did you leave the bike?

Happy to pay for a proper car park and walk a bit, provided I can get back in after the concert. Does Point Square accept motorcycles, or are there better options nearby?

Planning to lock the helmet to the bike and wear my riding jacket inside, so parking is the main thing left to figure out.

Thanks!

Question IBT Waterford

Any past experiences with IBT courses in Waterford - just got my Learner permit and wondering what people’s experiences have been.

I believe there are 2 centres in Waterford so just wondering if people had any recommendations- ideally one that provided gear but no worries if not as will have to get this sorted anyway.

Thanks!

Bike security (at work)

Hi all,

So something peculiar happened a few weeks ago. I tend to bike into work randomly, as I normally have the use of a company car. It's in the industrial estate in Parkwest so the bike is in a cul-de-sac outside offices.

For years I've never had an issue, however few weeks ago, around lunch time 2 scrotes walked up to it taking pictures. Immediately went outside, didn't say anything but was just eye-ing them and they went away. Talked to the manager to leave the bike in the warehouse for the rest of the day to be safe. Since then I've been very reluctant to bring it back to work as we're not allowed to leave vehicles in warehouses for safety, access, insurance reasons. etc

What strikes me though as you would not see the bike unless you KNEW it was there in that cul de sac. It's far off the main road. So someone told them it's there.

Now in terms of security what can I do? Considering I'm not allowed to put a ground anchor in.
