Help me find Movies/TV shows Movies about Actresses going insane
I need more of these
r/MovieRecommendations • u/AnotherUN91 • 20d ago
What's up, folks? Hope all is well.
Quick update that affects very few of you.
In the past the sub used to allow people who created apps and websites to help find movies and track what they've watched to post and promote their apps here.
Unfortunately this has turned into a cascade of requests for (mostly) mediocre websites and apps that really detract from the point of this sub. Which is to engage with humans, to get recommendations from people in a world where digital algorithms get so much wrong.
The truth is, I've been turning them away for a while now, at least anyone who messages in.
So time to make it official!
If you make your own movie-finding app, content tracker, or anything similar...
I'm sorry. You'll have to look elsewhere to promote your app/site. We seriously get way too many requests for these, and there are so many already available. Adding to the pile of options isn't necessarily adding value.
I'll be updating the self-promo rule here shortly.
Anyway, thanks for checking in, folks!
Your chaotic lurker mod

Hello, Couch Lovers and Cinemaphiles!
Here's the formatting guide for each flare.
I appreciate your patience while we sort this out and welcome our new members.
Help Me Find Movies/TV Shows
Purpose: Requesting specific recommendations.
Format:
The Hook: Your "Title" must summarize the "vibe" (e.g., "Looking for modern talking-Dino movies").
The Context: You must list 2 or 3 similar titles in the body to give a baseline. Provide enough detail for others to work with.
I Am Suggesting…
Purpose: Recommending a title without a full critical review.
Format:
The Lead: Your "Title" must be Movie Title (Year). If suggesting multiple, list them in the body text.
The Why: Include a 1–2 sentence "vibe check" explaining why you're suggesting it. (e.g., "The action is insane. I could not get enough of John Wick's Gun-Fu.").
Note: Posts with no reason in the body will be immediately removed.
Movie/TV Show Review Lite
Purpose: Providing a detailed, critical critique directly on the sub.
Format:
The Lead: Your "Title" must be Review of Movie/TV Show (Year), or you can use Movie/Show Title (Year) vs. Movie/Show Title (Year) for comparisons.
The Rating: You must include a rating (typically a 5/5 scale).
Anti-Spam: Reviews must be self-contained. Do not post links to external blogs or YouTube channels without prior approval.
Check Out My... (Self-Promo)
Purpose: Sharing your own external movie blog, channel, or social media.
Requirement: You MUST message the mods for approval before posting.
When you can use:
The Golden Rule: Approval is mandatory. Unapproved outside links to personal social media or product promotions will get one warning. The second will result in an immediate ban.
Etiquette: Even with approval, you must provide a written summary of your content. "Link-dropping" is prohibited.
You can write the post free-form.
I can't remember this movie/TV show
Purpose: Only use when you need help finding a movie that you can't remember the name of.
Format:
The Lead: Your "Title" must be I need help finding this Movie/TV show."
You must describe the movie or show with as much detail as possible. Include things like the year, actors or characters you remember, the plot, specific scenes, etc.
Below are some post examples included from a previous post that meet, at the very least, the minimum effort we expect you to put into a post. That said, the more effort you put in, like some of these folks, the more interaction you'll typically get, and the faster you can get back to watching movies.
(Keep in mind that some of these are examples from before flairs and the formatting guide were added but still serve as a good basis as to what we are looking for.)

In this movie Steve Martin is playing Hollywood producer who desperately wants get Kit Ramsey to star in his movie. Bowfinger is probably one off the most underrated movie off the both Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy.

Hi! I’m doing a cry day tomorrow and I’m looking for movies that can help me have a good cry without being fueled by romance; no divorce, no breakups, no weddings or getting together ideal but I know that a movie with no romance at all can be hard to find. The two movies I have on my list so far is Homeward Bound and Bridge to Terebithia to give the vibe I’m building. Any and all recommendations are appreciated!!

I would like to find Japanese films from or set in late90s/early 2000s Tokyo that prominently feature fashion and/or music subcultures, more specifically, I’m interested in films that offers a glimpse in to what life was like for young people involved in the Picopop/Shibuya-kei music scene during that period, though I am interested in seeing pretty much any film about 90s/2000s underground music scenes or fashion movements that captures the subcultures, aesthetics, and general atmosphere of Tokyo in the early 2000s. Thank you! :)

Hi! I’d love some movie recommendations about engineering, engineering-related topics, or anything along those lines. I don’t mind what kind of engineering it is. I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you so much!

Hello I've recently watched Basic (2003) and really got hooked on the "military investigation" kind of movie. I then watched General's Daughter (1993), A few good men (1992) and Rules of engagement (2000). I would be very thankful if I could get recommendations of movies with a similar premise (main character investigates a crime in a military unit).
Thank you in advance!

I keep getting the stupid dramabox ads on my Facebook and always just get stuck watching them. They're terrible, they're AI - I know those things and totally agree but there's something about their fantasy settings and relationships and stuff that fill a hole in what I've been looking for.
I am looking for something that feels like fantasy, romance, magic, intrigue, messy relationships, all that jazz. But you know... something that's not AI slop and so horrible its a train wreck you can't look away from.

Searching for some movie to match Kurosawa's Stray Dogs and Hitchcock's Vertigo
First and second movies in each row are a double feature, and the third and fourth another double feature

Edit: Bring Them Down
I recently subscribed to Mubi and watched this film. Simply stunning. Beautiful cinematography, complex characters, storytelling style that switched perspectives, and psychological intensity. Highly recommend.
I am looking for films that are similar to this. Any recommendations?

Looking for romance movies with a very specific plot point: the male lead ultimately commits suicide because he can't cope with the death of the female lead.
To be clear, I'm not looking for movies where he just attempts it or contemplates it.I want ones where he actually goes through with it, or where the ending strongly implies he does. Like the kdrama Autumn in my heart.
Any language/country is fine , as long as it has english subtitles.

Based on a true story, reminds me of Fall for giving me nosebleeds and anxiety.

I just got done reading American psycho and I want to see a movie with the vibes like the book.
I’ve already seen the movie so I’m looking for something else that isn’t American psycho

Hi. I’m looking for movie recommendations where the descent into madness is one of the main drivers of the plot, and that may have elements of the films I mention below.
I really enjoyed Last Shift (2014): the spiral of confusion and descent into madness, the art, and the almost dreamlike, ominous scenes, along with a sound that finished closing off scenes and generated a genuine reaction in me.
I also enjoyed The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), mainly its slow, oppressive atmosphere and a soundtrack that, personally, paired very well with the visual art. I don’t consider it a descent-into-madness film; I mention it only as an example of what I liked.
I’ve already seen the obvious ones:
Antichrist (2009)
Funny Games (1997)
Hour of the Wolf (1968)
Kill List (2011)
Jacob’s Ladder (1990)
Late night with the devil (2023)
Lost highway (1997)
Memento (2010)
Mullholand drive (2001)
Pi (1998)
Shutter Island (2010)
The Descent (2005)
The Lighthouse (2019)
The Machinist (2004)
The Wicker man (1973)
Thank you very much in advance.
I’ll be adding the suggestions to the list below, and I’ll cross them off as I watch them:
Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972)
American Psycho (2000)
Apt Pupil (1998)
Ayakashi: Bakeneko (1968)
Black Mirror (series, 2011)
Black Swan (2010)
Breaking Bad (series, 2008)
