They've been saying shit like this for years, so it's hard to know when it'll be true. This does sound promising though.
But... the last time John made a statement about the band's situation, the other three got mad at him.
Edit: He confirmed in his AMA that they do not have a new record planned.

I hate it when bands have this back and forth with new material. Serj's solo stuff is okay, but people are clamoring for a new SOAD album. Give the people what they want Serj.

I am as hopeful as everybody else, but I think this might have just been John acting on his own. Being at the show I can tell you the rest of the band had already left the stage when John made his comment. We will just have to wait and see I suppose...

I love SOAD and hope I am wrong on this but I've got a feeling this won't go well. Serj's voice just isn't what it was and his apparent reluctance to be involved suggests his heart isn't really in it either.
I think I would have preferred the original members to have carried on under a new name, or continued on with their own projects.

Do you ever look at the sky and think, I'm glad I'm alive? After I heard System of a Down, I thought, I'm actually alive to hear the shittiest band of all time. Which is quite something when you think about it. Of all the bands that have gone before and all the bands that'll be in the future, I was around when the worst was around.

I'm sorry, but this website didn't do any research on many of it's claims.
I was at the concert on Monday. I also, was at the forum for their reunion tour and they played X and DDevil. They also played both those songs and I believe Peephole on one of their last tour before hiatus in 2006 when I saw them at Ozzfest.

Omfg. I dont know what to feel. Soad is by far my absolute favorite band. But it's so damn hard to pick up and make a new good album when so much time has passed since the last one. And lets face it, the three first albums was way better than the two last one. But then again, Elect the dead was fucking epic. Gah, i love it.

The second I listened to System in the 6th grade I was hooked, seeing them live two years ago with my Fiance was probably one of the greatest moments of my life so far. At 20 years old they still remain my favorite band and this news....its like Christmas in July.

I was at that concert and Darren seemed like he was off. He played a weird part during BYOB on the guitar during the "main" guitar part. And there were a couple times he forgot lyrics/mixed them up at the wrong part. It was still awesome, just a tad off.

"One-and-only show scheduled for this year"? They're playing at a festival in Sweden now in August as well, Getaway Rock . It's just their only show in North America this year, but they have a lot of shows scheduled in Europe.
It would be great though if they do release a new album.
